Quote of the Season
"Like his companion, he steadies himself with the salt on his tongue, the sharp-sour smell of the sea like a fresh-split oyster. The beach, for him, is like an intersection between dreams and reality: endless, lulling, pungent and terribly dangerous. Realer than anything, and a mystery he will never solve. It is the only un-knowing he has learned to be comfortable with." From This Grand Show is eternal

Ranjiri is the near perfect almagamation of both of her parents. She is tall, lean, and well muscled. The girl sports the sleek black coat and leg barring that is signiture of her mother's family, and the golden accents from her father's. Her legs are well formed and shapely, each limb dipped in gold to the just above the knee and hocks, where it then tapers into barring. Her hooves are golden, as were her father's, with the exception of her's being cloven, due in part to her unicorn blood.

The woman's wings are large, the feathers an array of glossy black and shining gold. The left wing appears to droop a bit lower than it's counterpart does. This is due to a muscle and tendon injury that Ranjiri suffered during a fight with a RIft God. She never received medical attention for it, and because of this it also tends to stiffen during the colder months. This also makes it a bit more painful to fly long distances.

Each shoulder sports golden tribal markings. Along her left side, stretching from the point of her hip to the front of her shoulder is a twisting, jagged, hairless scar that she received when her cousin, the Demigod Roskuld, shot her with a bolt of lightning.

A golden blaze runs the length of her face, curving and stopping under her chin. A single, golden, spiraled horn sits in the middle of her forehead. Though, Ranjiri's most striking feature are her eyes. They are molten pools of crimson, pupil-less, and very expressive.

The good - Adventurous, Brave, Intelligent, Independent, Loving, Honest, Outgoing, Strong

The Bad - Tempermental, Stubborn, Opinionated, Curious, Prone to bouts of depression

Ranjiri has always had a strong sense of advanture and independence. From a young age she was always off exploring the world around her in the company of her mother's companion, Eytan (whom she lovingly calls Bear), or her cousin Roskuld. Her sense of adventure is bolstered by a curiosity of the world around her. She has no problem asking questions about things she doesn't understand and will eagerly absorb any information that is offered to her.

She is outgoing and friendly, always ready for a conversation and to meet someone new. Because of this she rarely meets someone she doesn't know, and when she does it doesn't stay that way for long. She tries to be helpful to those that she comes across, offers advice to those who ask for it, and will help anyone with their problems, regardless of whether they've asked her or not. The world is a painful place, and she figures that if she can put some love into it that maybe, just maybe it'll get better.

Time and again, Ranjiri has been called strong, though she is not physically imposing. She has a strength of will that allows her to work toward her goals relentlessly. And she has strengh of heart, that allows her to express her true feelings and emotions without hesitation or shame. She is honest and forthright, unwavering and steadfast in her beliefs. She is brave and unafraid to be called into battle, should the time come.

Like everyone, however, she does have her pitfalls. Her temper can sometimes get the better of her, though she tries her hardest to keep it from surfacing. She is stubborn and opinionated and this as caused her to end up debating with others who do not see eye to eye with her. The woman also suffers from occasional bouts of depression, brought on by dreams, memories, or flashbacks of her brother's murder, father's untimely death, and her first love's death.
so let's go out in flames, so everyone knows who we are

Ranjiri was born to Ktulu the Constrictor and Midas the Gallant in the Windtossed Foothills of Helovia. Her mother was the Chieftess of the Foothills, while her father was the Sultan of the Dragon's Throat. There were many that were present at her birth, but Roskuld, a cousin that was born only a few weeks before, was the one that Ranjiri bonded closely with. For the first year of their life the pair were nearly inseparable. It was not uncommon to see the two fillys running around the Foothills, trailed by a grizzly bear.

The girl was only a few months old when the first darkness came. Both the moon and the sun were gone, bonds with companions had been silenced, and everyone was thrown into confusion and chaos. It was at this time that Ranjiri said the first of many goodbyes to those that she loved. Her brother, the Demigod Hototo, was called upon by his father, The God of the Earth, and he departed. He promised a tearful Ranjiri that he would see her again, but never did. A few days later she woke from a nap to find that Roskuld had left her while she had been sleeping. Angered by her cousin's sudden departure, and hurt that she hadn't even said "goodbye", Ranjiri refused to searh for her and, instead, remained close to her mother and Bear.

It wasn't long after the sun and moon finally came back that Ranjiri learned to fly. She was a yearling and, having decided that she wanted to visit her father at his home, thought it was time that she learned. Her mother, being a unicorn, could not help her. It took several weeks before she finally was able to get airborne and fly, but once she was able she made her way to the Dragon's Throat. The only problem was that she still hadn't perfected landing.

The yearling crash landed in the Dragon's Throat, her fall softened by the loose desert sand. It was then that she met Gaucho for the first time. At first she thought he was a strange, towering, hulk of a stallion. Little did she know that he would end up becoming someone very important to her. Shortly after Gaucho found her, Midas arrived and the two were able to talk and catch up on the time they had spent apart.

After leaving the Dragon's Throat, Ranjiri ended up in the Deep Forest, where she stumbled upon Roskuld. Despite the anger and betrayal that she had felt toward her cousin after being left behind, Ranjiri was overcome by happiness. They reunited and Ranjiri told her cousin how much she loved her and had missed her. The two promised that they would stick together, and Ranjiri asked Roskuld if she could join her as she roamed Helovia.

Upon Roskuld's agreement, Ranjiri ventured back to the Foothills to tell her mother goodbye, then went to the Thistle Meadow to wait for Roskuld to meet her there. What she did not know was that a sickness had already begun to take hold of Helovia and it's inhabitants. While she was waiting she was attacked by Sikeax, who was infected by the sickness. As a result Ranjiri became ill. The sickness took hold of her and she began to attack those that she loved. It was during one such altercation that Roskuld shot her with a bolt of lightning that left her scarred.

She was forcefully healed by Gaucho, Midas, and Alysanne. She remembered everything that she had said and everything that she had done while sick, and lived with the guilt of it for a long time. It was shortly after being healed that she met Dragomir again, who had simply been an acquaintance before. She spoke with him about what she had done while under the influence of the sickness. He offered her kind words and advice, which she took to heart.

Eventually she joined the Dragon's Throat with her brother, Cera. Midas had since become the Chief of the new Foothills, which was a bit of a sore spot for Ranjiri because he had refused to join her and her mother there when asked before. Gaucho, the new Sultan of the Dragon's Throat, promoted Ranjiri to a crafter, a trade in which she worked closely with her brother.

She was two when she found a foal, Ryuu, abandoned on a beach, crying and alone. She took the foal in and, with the help of Cera and wetnurses, raised him. During this time there was a murderer loose in Helovia. The Gods had tasked the Helovians with finding and stopping the murderer, though Ranjiri did not take part in the manhunt. She chose to stay within the borders of the Dragon's Throat with Ryuu, mainly because a painful hoof condition kept him from traveling long distances.

The murderer was found and Ranjiri was present when it happened. She watched Gaucho, possessed by the Moon Goddess as he tried to murder someone. She watched her brother throw himself in the the line of fire, sacrificing himself so that others might live. She listened to her mother scream in anguish, to Ryuu's confused questions, to angry shouts, demands for judgement. With a heavy heart she guided Ryuu back to the Dragon's Throat and left him in her brother's care.

She found Roskuld again in the Deep Forest. They bonded more in their shared grief and anger. Then Roskuld tried to tell her goodbye forever, to which Ranjiri balked vehemently. After arguing Roskuld finally agreed that there was no reason for permanent goodbyes. Ranjiri made her promise to visit her in the Dragon's Throat, then made her way back home.

Her first patrol after Hototo's mudered was with Gaucho, himself. At first she didn't know what to think, how to react, and was quite withdrawn. Seeing Gaucho's despair at having been possessed and used was the push that Ranjiri needed. She forgave Gaucho, though she did not, and has not, forgiven the Moon Goddess. As their patrol came to an end, Gaucho promoted Ranjiri to Artisan granting her crafting magic with her rank. They exchanged feathers as a sign of forgiveness and friendship.

Shortly after she met Rhoa, whom she had only seen in passing before. He was a handsome stallion, tall and strong, and so very sweet and charming. They spoke several times and she found herself slowly falling for him, though she didn't exactly understand the feelings. Then he disappeared. She was out exploring a few weeks later when she met Rhoa's twin brother Ivezho. The two hit it off and made plans to explore together. Then, like his brother, Ivezho disappeared.

There was unrest in the World's Edge after the murders, and this caused plans for an invasion of the Foothils, aided by the Aurora Basin. Ranjiri was totally unaware of this when she traveled to the Basin. She had brought several amulets with her to give to her aunt, Ophelia, as a thank you for taking care of her mother after Hototo's death. The amulets were taken and it was suggested that Jiji stay within the Basin for the night. Several hours later her world would come crashing down when she watched her father fall to his death after trying to escape the Basin to return to the Foothills to fight off the invasion.

Gaucho arrived a few days later and a distraught Ranjiri cried on his shoulder. The pair traveled to the Foothills for Midas' funeral. Ranjiri was the only one of his children present for the funeral. She went wholly unnoticed, ignored, by everyone. All of Midas' earthly possessions were given to his new lover and his body burned. She was unable to even retrieve a feather as a token of her father. She went with nothing and left with nothing but the burden of having to tell her brother that their father had died.

Ranjiri was on her way to the Veins of the Gods to visit the God of the Earth's shrine when she met Cathun. He was hostile, angry, arrogant, and sarcastic. Ranjiri tried to be patient with him and, eventually it paid off. She learned of his curse and offered to help him, though he quickly turned her down. Her stubbornness and the desire to not watch someone die made her ignore his refusal. Eventually she talked him into visiting the God of Time, and the two were sent on a quest to heal Cathun. He never completed his quest, and so Ranjiri is unsure of his fate.

Helovia's gods began bringing in new lands from a place known as The Rift. Ranjiri was present for each new land that appeared and for each fight that inevitably would follow. It was during one of these fights that she suffered a traumatic injury to her wing. Muscles and tendons were ripped and for a while her wing dragged the ground next to her as she walked. Gradually it healed, but it still is not what it was pre-injury.

It was around this time that Jiji reconnected with Dragomir. The two began hanging out together on a near daily basis. They chatted and joked, picked flowers together, and slowly began to fall in love. His mother's illness and eventual death caused him to leave Helovia without telling Ranjiri.

Shortly after Rhoa returned and the pair reconnected. They began to work together on crafting projects for the Dragon's Throat. Those old feelings that Jiji had before his disappearance were rekindled and she began to look forward to spending time with him.

Until he told her that he fathered a child with another mare. Feeling utterly betrayed, Ranjiri took her leave of Rhoa and eventually the Dragon's Throat altogether. She went back home to the Hidden Falls (formerly the WIndtossed Foothills) so she could be closer to her mother and her new baby brother. She became the crafter there and started to make a niche for herself there.

But Rhoa followed her. She was forced to face her feelings and Rhoa when she was called to the border to meet him. After a long conversation, the revelation of feelings and hurts, she asked Rhoa to stay in the Falls with her. He agreed and they, once more, began crafting together. Eventually the pair conceived a child together. Unfortunally, Rhoa was killed in the Deep Forest before he was able to meet his daughter.

When Dragomir returned he was met with a very pregnant, grief stricken Ranjiri. He joined her in the Hidden Falls and was her biggest support while she went through the hardest time in her life. During this time The God of the Earth promoted her to Chieftess alongside Isopia, granting her the legend title GoldenShade.

Shortly after giving birth to her daughter, Letha, the Hidden Falls herd was dissolved. Ranjiri, Dragomir, and Letha all traveled to the World's Edge together and began to make their home there. It was during this time that Ranjiri found Geronimo and adopted him into her family. Gradually, her grief eased and she was able to function as she had before. Her love for Dragomir grew and soon the pair were inseparable again. She knew that it was difficult for him to step into a father role, especially to a foal that he had not sired, but he did so and it made her love and appreciate him more.

Kaos destroyed the peace that they had come to know, and in a last ditch effort to save their family, Ranjiri forced the foals through the portal that Kaos had oppened. She looked back as she stepped through, glimpsing Dragomir for what would probably be the last time...

Cathun - "Her stubbornness was equal to his own and her heart a vast ocean of gentle strength that didn't budge no matter how many rocks he threw at it."

Archibald - "Archibald knew this girl before him, this young master of the wind and sword mixed together with elegance and strength, but he did not know her."

Gaucho - "He had done irreplaceable damage to her family, and yet she had forgiven him. Gaucho had always known the girl was strong, but he had never really known how deep her well of strength truly was. Only know was he beginning to have some understanding."

Rhoa - "She seems ... so strong, even when she was speaking of things which were sad, there was a hardiness about her. To admit such worry, especially to me, a near stranger, only proved her strength."

Roskuld - I loved Jiji. I couldn’t deny it (have I ever tried to?). And look what I was doing to her, by loving her so hard—look at how much pain she was in because I wanted her safe.

Archibald - She stood on his border, however, lingering with a gentle question on her lips. "I'm here, he thought, turning to head towards the voice of his love's daughter--his chosen child, adopted into the place in his heart the sons of hellion and the daughter of grey stood. She called him Uncle Archi, as she had her entire life, but the Dauntless counted her as his daughter.
