It was a nice day out today.

Well, nice for winter, anyways. Either way, Seree Quyi was rather partial to colder climates as it just so happened, so they were more than pleased with the frigid touches that wound their ways between the dark hairs of the horse's coat. Sometimes, even they could get too cold, but after years growing up with the blistering heat on their back and haunches, and feeling like they were being burned alive, they would always be willing to be more tolerant of the cold touches of winter and cool climates.

The snow lay thick upon the earth like a blanket, but rather than trapping in the heat, it kept in the cold. It kept in the freezing and the cold, kept in the frost and burst open the cells of what lay within the bowels of the earth as it froze the waters inside and the soft, so very fragile membranes that bound the cells together burst with the crystal shards, littering the world with diamond flecks as the small organisms, unable to keep themselves warmed, perished.

But to a being as large as a horse, the internal heat regulation they were capable of kept them quite safe from any bursting and freezing. Kept them quite content to ignore the death that flowed beneath them unknown to them, and only reveled in the soft, satisfying crunch beneath their hooves with every step. It was truly a treasure to be able to walk for miles on end and see only clean, untouched snow. There was something so very satisfying with every step, crushing and compacting the untouched substance until it bore their mark.

Flurries of the playful crystals danced in the occasional gusts of wind, buffeting the darkly colored equine and layering their bodice with flecks of what looked like diamond dust. Their mane was bedecked in the stuff, making the green of their hair sparkle like a frosted forest, and the black of their body look like some modern artist's interpretation of the night sky.

Their crown of antlers glistened with both the solid flakes and those that began to melt, making them shimmer like they were coated in a fresh coat of polish. The horse turned their face to the winds, closing their eyes as they allowed the cold, refreshing air to flow through their lungs, invigorating and reviving them. A soft sigh was pulled from their lips, a soft cloud of warm air marking their breath as a smile curled at their lips.

They trotted contently on, pace picking up a little as they walked. They were doubtful that they would find much that could help them in medicine out in these parts in this time of year, but it was simply getting far too cramped and stuffy in the keep. They felt overwhelmed by the fire burning the hearth of the old quarters they had found near the medical ward, especially when the cold gusts of air kept snaking down the chimney to remind them of the fun and adventures to be had outside.

So they had fumbled used their lesser telekinesis to stir up ash from the bottom of the hearth, smothering the flames but keeping the embers beneath shrouded and warm so that they could stir up the flames again when they returned.

For now, they were simply out for an adventure in a winter wonderland, simply walking with no real destination in mind, their pace changing in frequency and temperament as beats and music danced through their mind, coming from everywhere and nowhere. Every now and then, they dipped and spun as though dancing with an unseen partner, especially falling prone to the movements when a gust of the lightly falling snow should brush past them, bowing and tangoing with the winter wind like their partners in this dance were the elements themselves.

You flee my dream come the morning
Your scent - berries tart, lilac sweet
To dream of raven locks entwisted, stormy
It was an atrocious day out.

Of all things Grainne loathed, trudging through snow up to her belly was undoubtedly high on the list, with snow itself being shortly behind. She hated the cold, it made her work difficult and it was a time where many were prone to sickness and disease, where starvation was a very real threat to those who were not so closely tied to the Courts and their resources, and in some Long Winters, not even being a Sovereign could have saved you from the hunger brought on by a winter that refused to go. The cold made her ache, for though her body was still relatively young for no longer aging past eight summers, she had been a filly once and those wounds earned in play groaned and protested. It made her feel old, which in turn soured her already ill disposition, and a vicious cycle ensued.

She had spent the day unearthing herbs that had just barely avoided the bitter frost, yet even though they would be barely able to be used for their dryness and spent youth, she was grateful for gathering them. Winter was an ill time, and every resource gathered was precious now matter how bruised nor how spent. Slowly she waded through the snow, breathing a soundless sigh of relief when the deep snow retreated to simply tangling about her ankles, its cold nipping her hocks but fortunately little else. The snow rolled on, unbroken, pristine, ridiculous, save for one errant dot in the distant rolling moor. Her dark ears flicked forward as the frolicking figure spun and danced across the snow towards her, as if the silver-dark woman was invisible against the snow. The child was undoubtedly of Denocte; few would kick their heels within the moor to a song only they could hear, and while that behavior was known, nay expected of Denoctians, anyone else would be declared mad for it. The rich and home-felt scent that reached her nares however confirmed the dancer's origins.

With a tired sigh, the mare moved to step out of the dancer's path, her dark ears falling flat to the thick waves of her dark mane. Let them enjoy the cold, let them work a sweat to chill and fall ill. Foolishness was what it was, and the hedge-witch would have no part in it.

They were admittedly not completely aware of their surroundings. They were aware enough to make sure that they did not trip or run into anyone in the immediate vicinity, but outside of that, they saw little. Only the whirling of the white snow as they spun, only the sheer amount of times they had done such things before enabling them to not become dizzy and fall over. Enough training had gotten their sense of balance quite well adapted.

A dark and shadowed blur was what drew them to a halt, not a full outline but enough so of one that it came upon them that either they were not alone, or that was a very peculiarly shaped rock.

Green hooves spun to a halt, crunching on the snowy ground as the long limbs, emerald socks stretching up from where they stained the hooves up to near the first joint, before fading back to black, shuffled about and shifted in order to maintain balance. The antlered equine shook their head, clearing green locks from where they had flopped into their face, a smile curving at the horse's lips as they tried to get a closer look.

Ah! It was someone!

Green eyes lit up as Seree felt their smile widen as the other mare began moving, and they wasted no time in changing their course to head directly for her, a pleased trot kicking into their heels as they headed onward, always happy for a little socialization. It could get ever so lonely out here, especially when one was walking by themself, and company was always welcome. Besides, maybe she knew some spots where some evergreen medicines could be found.

Seree was more accustomed to working with what was presented to them in the immediate area, not so much remembering specific locations of where to find things, having been nomadic for much of their, if fairly limited, career as a Caretaker.

Either way, a pleased whinny erupted from them as they came closer, picking up to a canter as they came closer to the unknown woman.

"Hello! How are you on this fine day?"

As they came close enough to get a good look at the other woman, they tilted their head slightly as they studied her features. Eyes squinting ever so, they roamed over her face with an astute focus, curiosity quirking their lips.

"And pardon me if this is rude, but have we met? You look somewhat familiar."

As if they had seen her in the corner of their eye for years, never having a conversation, but a familiar part of the landscape around them. Always out of focus, but always right there. And now that they were looking at her head on, they could almost see the burning sun of Solterra against her pale back...
