your heart is a wild thing
made of stardust and thunder and hurricanes

Everytime you close your eyes.

His words sends shocks and shivers down her spine in blissful waves; like soft promises and kisses of wild, untamed dreams and hopes that soar up into the heavens like shooting stars. She knows, without a doubt, that the beast of her nightmares will be held at bay; not by the chains of silver she has so craftfully learned to ensnare them with, but oh.. instead, the prince of twilight will chase them away. The silver in his mane and the sweet nothings burned into her skin by his soft kiss a spear, a weapon that will take away every awful thing that haunts her. The heartache that has cleaved her into pieces, like a ragdoll, her body and soul falling apart at the seams as every word that Reichenbach spoke atop the mountain temple cut through the threads that held her together.

But each one of those threads, woven from stardust and thunder, were replaced with yarn made of dusk and newborn stars; rose and silver and blue, entwining around her heart, sewing each broken piece back to wholeness. Whether she knew it or not, the stormsinger was beginning to mend. The summer wine laced in her blood drifting away, replaced by the high of her lungs craving sweet night air, her muscles tingling. She had spent countless hours twirling in the flames and burning embers in the City of Starlight, but nothing compared to dancing in the dark with him.. with the twilight boy who captured her with a gaze that she was helplessly falling into. His smile is lost and found as his lips grace the smooth arch of her neck, and Aislinn is gone, her skin warm underneath his breath.

She does not realize that his lips graze along the constellations tattooed on the night-sky of her skin; her body a star map for him to lose himself, her wings strong enough to float them both beneath her goddess' sea of pearls. Oh, how she wishes to take him with her; to lift them into the sky, close enough to touch the stars with wing tips and feathers. How she craves and wonders to share the obsidian fathoms of night, and the chill of air rushing beneath wings; cradling them in moonlight and dreams made on glimmering stars.

Aislinn swears that the stars above her listen to her as she prays. Prays and hopes and desires nothing else but for Calligo to take hold of the sky forever. To stand guard and disobey the makings of Time itself. To ignore her brothers pleas of the coming dawn. For the stormsinger wishes for nothing less than for the Night to remain, to be endless and unbound by the moon and sun that hang in the sky in equal balance. Her heart desires nothing more than to stay, in this field of sweetgrass, with a boy she just met but wanted to know. The beating in her chest a drum and the blood in her veins singing a song that only she could hear.. that she wanted to dance to, until the stars fell into a slumber and the sky was bleached in sunlight and brightness.

But then the magic of this night would be lost.. and she would once again be a gypsy girl who had fallen hopelessly into the grief of heartache and reality.

Why? Have you had your fill of dancing?

His question lingers between them as he pulls away from her, the warmth that had flooded her now suddenly gone in a rush of cold and loneliness. She nearly pulls him back, asking him to stay, when her eyes meet his of chocolate brown. Her orbs shine like tiny blue flames, the wine laced in her blood fading away, but the elation of this boy sending her heart heavensward. A smile tugs her lips upwards as she breaks her gaze, her body spinning into a swirl that causes a rush of fireflies to burst around her. They are like tiny lanterns, pulsing and glowing like pixie dust, as they are suspended around her. Her mane is tangled as it falls across one eye, a single orb of sapphire pinning him to where he stands.

She takes a mental picture of him then; branding him into her memory, his kiss behind her ear and his words and his twilight day dreams a seed that grows in her heart, her soul. A lavender blossom blossoming as her smile grows, the night sky fading away into indigo and cold pinks as dawn begins to break far, far away.

Their dream is ending, and she fears that if she blinks, he will vanish before her very eyes as the sun begins to slowly rise.

"Never," she replies, and time slips away. She moves quickly, reaching towards him through the mist of fireflies and light that dances across their skin, her lips brushing the smooth planes of his cheek. A kiss, a promise. Her smile only grows, as she backs away, her wings unfurling to taste the orange and yellows that slowly burn away the darkness of night, turning the moon into a slumbering silver dragon in the sky. "Forget me not."

She knows then, that somehow, someway, she will find him again. Aislinn is not sure of how, save for that she will see him in her dreams.. but they will find each other. One way or another, she is sure of it; as sure as she knows the stars will always welcome her as night falls once more with each passing day.

With a swift tug on the breeze, she launches, her body drifting through the stars as they begin to fall asleep, her mane shining in the breaking sunlight as she flies away.

Asterion
in sunshine and in shadow*

Forget me not, she says, and he knows already he never will.

He is not prepared for her to go; with her kiss still burning on his cheek he watches, helpless, as she flares her mighty wings. It doesn’t even cross his mind that he’s not given her his name; already hers burns like a flame in his heart.

“Please,” he says, he begs – but it is too late; she is leaving, she is gone, she is nothing but a memory like an indentation in a pillow that still smells of perfume.

Asterion does not blink as she goes; his gaze tracks her, devours her, until she vanishes from view. He has never before wished for wings; now, he would trade anything for them. Anything to follow her.

He is alone again. More than he was before, because Aislinn has taken a part of him with her. His heart is aloft, his dreams are among the fading stars –

And one by one the fireflies leave him as he walks on toward the dawn, with no destination in mind.
