Rostislav is a six year old Soviet Heavy Draft, native to Mother Russia. He is an average height 15.1 hh. He has a straight profile and a strong jaw. His overall coloring is rabicano (chestnut, smokey dark bay mix, with grey spots on belly and chest). He has a two-tone mane with black underneath and white more or less on top. He sports a black unicorn beard, and at the tip of his lion's tail are black hairs to match. He has striped hooves that contrast the spots along his belly. His eyes are a silvery-gray with matching pupils. He has black Eland horns and 3 dragon spikes on his face. His body is marked with scars, most prominently on his chest and over his face. (He also carries a flask around his neck.) He is stout in his build and character, built for strength and endurance over speed. His neck is shorter and thicker, with a muscular back and sloping croup. His shoulders are straight and deep with a wide chest. Though he has a warrior's background, he has been lucky to come away with minor wounds that only blend in with his already scarred body.

The normal Rosti: He's fairly apathetic and tends to mind his own business, caring about little but the alcohol in his flask. He's more or less decided he doesn't care what goes on in the world and is a noncommittal bystander. However, he is fiercely loyal toward blood relatives, unlike how his parents were toward him. This will apply to any mate he may ever have. He's an unapologetic flirt, and doesn't care if he is rejected. Though he does not seek it, he could be in a position of power - his name means "usurper of glory" in Russian. Most prominently, he is an alcoholic. Though he is a fan of all alcohol, his favorite is vodka. He learned of vodka in Mother Russia and is always hoping to be reunited with it.

Through his time at Helovia he turned into a fairly well-known and well-valued member of the community. Though he kept his drinking, he has developed community ties and even a family. (Including a granddaughter that he's never met!) A brief existential crisis took him away from his family and friends, and upon returning discovered a world destroyed. Now he is riddled with guilt at abandoning his family and wonders if he will ever see them again. His depression is deepened by the apparent absence of his companion, Damaris. Though he believes she is still alive - not feeling the hole in him that he would expect by her death - he does not know when he will be reunited with her either.

These changes in his life have turned him into a lonesome soul who is feeling remarkably lost in this new world. He's guarded now, lonely, and probably going to be rather coldhearted to strangers until someone can weave inside and get him to open up. Then, and only then, will the old Rostislav start to come back.

The memories are all faded, the history of our very own Rostislav, Usurper of Glory.

The background in Mother Russia: Born to Vladimir and Anya, Rostislav's childhood was less than ideal. Vlad was Rostislav’s alcoholic father. Vlad suffered often from a jealous rage at Anya’s whorish nature. Anya, of course, was Rostislav's skank mother. Though originally Anya and Vladimir were happy mates, Vlad began drinking and Anya ran off to flirt -- and more -- with any stallion that would have her (and many did). Her absence as she went off with other stallions and his son’s availability as an easy target led to a childhood full of abuse for Rostislav. By age two Rostislav had had enough and left the destroyed 'family home' to wander alone.

During his time alone (a period very poorly remembered), Rosti got into many fights. Some were pure defense, some were fights he picked on his own, not knowing what else to do with himself. He found a leather flask, and with the help of another soul who had some.. issues.. learned he could put fermenting fruit into it and eventually get something akin to what his father drank. Although he despised the idea of becoming like his father, he couldn't help but fall into the trap of 'the apple never falls far from the tree.' He continued getting into fights, amassing numerous scars to build upon the ones that he already had from his father's abuse. It was during this time period he was also introduced to 'vodka', and discovered his favorite alcoholic beverage.

Eventually, his wandering took him to Helovia....

Though initially unimpressed with his surroundings, upon arriving at the Sanctuary he has found himself in the middle of what seems like a vicious feud. Though he already accepted an invitation to join the Asylum, he is further encouraged with his decision when Confutatis joins the party. Though she is clearly a downer on his arrival, he discovers an egg which will hatch to become his companion Damaris. He wanders the caves, meeting various folk, while protecting his egg and learning that others, too, have eggs of their own, including a new best friend, Voodoo. Luckily, he avoids the darkness that has plagued Helovia and when it passes, he emerges with a new homeland. He moves with Midas and Seele and the rest of the Asylum to the Hidden Falls as a soldier. In a race against the other warriors, he successfully becomes one of the two Legatus in the Falls. His egg hatches a little hellhound, whom he names Damaris, and he learns to take care of her with the help of Lakota. He also flirts with some ladies, and finds himself in a strange menage a trois with Voodoo and Aurelia. Though he does not know it, he is father to one of two dizygotic twins, Faeanne. In a meeting with a sphinx in the Ancient Rotunda, he is lucky enough to win Earth magic from her.

--MORE FROM HELOVIA... here... HELP-- (Includes baby with Kiara = Vitani. Pouch refills with vodka automatically.)

Upon the death of his good friend and mentor, Midas, Rostislav fell into a deep depression. Neither Kiara, Vitani, nor even Damaris could rouse him from his sadness. He drank more and more from his now-enchanted flask, turning to a state of constant inebriation. One day, he wandered off. And as it turned out.. out of Helovia. He wandered long and far, to a place he knew not. Eventually, and who knows when that was, he roused from his drunken stupor. He spent a long, lonely time trying to find his way back. Days upon days passed before he finally found his way back to Helovia's Threshold. Upon reaching it, he saw utter chaos and destruction. A world burning, wrecked with no hope of ever being a home again. Darkness chased Rosti away, leaving him without friends, family, or his companion.

Guarded, lonely, and stone-cold to a stranger's touch, Rostislav turned to face the newest chapter in his life -- Novus. And he quickly found that in addition to being without his loved ones, he is also without his alcohol (fermented fruit, where are you?) and his Earth magic.

Active & Parvus Magic

  • Parvus magic
The ground around him reflects his mood (corresponding to the strength of his active magic). Happiness causes things to bloom, sadness causes them to wilt, and anger causes cracks in the ground.
  • Discipuli
Rostislav seems to be attuned with the earth. When his emotions flare, the earth begins to rumble, perhaps cracking and splitting when he's at his angriest. Rostislav feels a connection with the earth; he is able to direct its shaking and even cause chunks of rock and earth to break free and fling several meters away from himself. However he tires quickly, and his power may be dulled by his drinking.
  • Vexillum
He has gained more control over the earth. It still reacts to his emotions, but the motions are gaining refinement. He is able to create shapes out of the earth, lifting them with ease and directing their motion as he throws them. The area Rostislav can manipulate has increased to roughly 10 meters, but it becomes harder, sloppier, and more tiresome the farther away from his body he tries to work.
  • Periti
Rostislav does not tire nearly so quickly anymore, and drinking has less of a deadening effect on his abilities. His range of manipulation has again grown to nearly 15 meters, and he can work more of the earth at any given time than before. His aim has also improved, making him far more effective in battle-sque scenarios.
  • Dominus
The earth is under Rostislav's command. He can crack, lift, and control the ground around him within large ranges, in a way that seems graceful and effortless. His best work is done closer to his body, however with effort he can cause lasting and rippling effects that reach far outside of his range.

Passive Magic

:: Enchanted flask: His waterproof leather flask remained filled with wine that he would otherwise have to make from fruit stuffed inside to ferment.

Damaris is a female hellhound that Rostislav found as an egg at age 4. She has the shape and conformation of a German Shepherd, almost entirely black. She has glowing green eyes, with glowing marks: an almost full circle around her neck that is incomplete just over her spine, almost like a necklace. Her hind left leg is of the same glowing green fur, solid below the knee, then wraps up in a spiral around the limb and ends with a curl just where her belly meets her hind leg. She is the wisdom to Rosti's insanity, providing a light at the end of his drunk, dark tunnel. She is there to support him and his family, and to fight for and with him. Without her he is lost and full of despair.

Acid Ability: her jaws produce a thick, sickly venom that causes harmful and serious acid damage in the tissues

Armor, Outfit, and Accessories

:: Small item: A waterproof leather flask that holds alcohol and/or fermented fruit. In Helovia it was enchanted to refill automatically with vodka. In Novus, it is enchanted to refill with crude wine.

:: Large item (Armor): Reference. Rostislav's armor is a combination of titanium alloy and tough leather hide (with silver as decoration on the front). He has a metal face plate with holes for his horns, as well as layers metal to cover the crest of his neck. A chest plate has a bright silver symbol that is a symbol of earth, to honor the God of the Earth that was his patron god for so long. A small plate covers his underside to the middle off is belly. Metal plating covers the stallion's flanks and rump. All these pieces are connected by leather straps and tough hide.
