She looks like a Thoroughbred, all legs and chest, thin and tall and built for speed. Hers is a nondescript appearance at first glance - brown on brown on brown, with a splash of white – but upon further inspection, she becomes more interesting. Her lanky body is a chocolate brown, lightly dappled, fading to tawny points and three white socks. A snowy mane and tail frame a face accented by a crooked star sitting slightly off-center on her forehead. Her wings, large and feathered, match the brown of her shoulders from coverts to primaries. Dark amber eyes complete the image, mesmerizing those who cross her path.

Big. Bold. A naturally charismatic and charming mare, Milena’s vivacious nature is on display through every miniscule movement of her body and teasing word from her lips. Dramatic, flirtatious, and mischievous, every encounter with her is an adventure. She is, at her heart, a playful creature with a love of the stage. If she can be the center of attention, she will be.

She may not be the most beautiful mare in the land, but you’d never know it by the way she carries herself. Proud, conceited, and arrogant, Milena tends to be dismissive of criticism. The world doesn’t revolve around her, but don’t tell her that! Her love of drama extends to when she feels she’s been wronged, and woe be to any on the receiving end of her blistering tongue.

Although she puts on a bold face, Milena struggles to outgrow the insecure filly that escaped her past. She has trouble trusting those who show her affection, sure that they, like Milena’s family, are only interested in using her for their own gain. She aims for independence to a fault, for she cannot bring herself to rely on anyone but herself. Still, despite this, she aches for a home that accepts her for who she is with no strings attached, and desperately wants to use her skills for good in the world.

She was a filly who belonged to nowhere and nothing, born to a roving band of rogues and storytellers. Her first memories were of a life in disarray, always searching for their next mark. A lively filly with a tendency toward the dramatic, she was still but a yearling when her family began to use her skills in their schemes. Her worth was defined by how well she performed, by how long she kept the audience enthralled - all the better for her brethren to mingle with the crowd, sneaking little bits of wealth free from the unsuspecting audience.

Hers wasn’t a bad life, but neither was it a good one. She awoke each morning with a singular mission: to perform at that evening’s show. She matured quickly, her life controlled solely by her family’s desires. She was no more than a hawk, kept hooded and hobbled, chafing at the chains that bound her. Hopes and dreams were for other fillies, of better birth, who could afford to pursue their own passions.

But all things must end, and so it was with her family’s machinations. They stopped to perform for a large herd, housed in a great city with a robust guard. While they often left silently in the dead of night to escape pursuit, they were unused to leaving by way of a guarded entrance. The spoils of their show were discovered, they were imprisoned, and so it was that the first stage of Milena’s life was over. As little more than a foal, it was determined that she had not been a part of planning the roguish operations. She was released under the condition that she leave the city and never return.

And so she left, abandoning her parents and the only family she had ever known. A part of her felt guilty for leaving them, but a larger part was simply relieved. She had always wondered if what they had done was wrong, and now she knew; she was glad to no longer be a part of it.

She wandered here and there, travelling for several years and maturing into a pretty young mare. Her passion for drama never left her, though she swore she would never again use it for such nefarious purposes as she had been forced to do in her youth. Instead, she decided that if she ever found somewhere that could appreciate her talents without abusing them – that is where she would stay.
