Akhal Teke Cross - 16.1HH - White Coat - Teal-to-Pink Mane/Tail - Teal Eyes

Ptolemy is a creature designed to catch the eye--and in subtle, unassuming ways he's tried to accentuate this fact. He is a streamlined creature with a slim barrel chest and tall legs, a runner's build with a moderate stamina. He carries himself with a great deal of grace and dignity, and has a distinct "face" that he presents the world. It is charming and sweet and full of mystery, though the stories he hides behind his eyes are those he most enjoys sharing.

His white coat is always well groomed, no dark spots to be found save for the deep, midnight blue crescent that naturally marks his left hip, the same color as his perfectly manicured hooves. His mane and tail are a picture of the morning sun chasing away the last of the night, a beautiful dark teal that fades into a sunny pink at the tips. Both are long but kept straight and well maintained, and he takes great care with both. His eyes are a similar teal, slightly lighter and brighter in shade, and are quick to take in his surroundings and company.

A unicorn, he bears a single black horn that protrudes from the center of his forehead. It's smooth, solid, and sturdy, with a slight backward curve. In decoration, he wears a layered, dark chain necklace, the layers all connected so that they sit toward the center of his neck and dangle at varying lengths, as well as a small nose ring of the same material.

Charismatic - Approachable - Intellectual - Diligent - Whimsical - Playful - Standoffish - Snobbish - Forgetful - Rude

Ptolemy has a few distinct sides to himself that the world sees. The first of which is that of the storyteller. An avid orator, he takes great pleasure in putting on a friendly, approachable face and moderating his speech pattern to lure in those who might hear, spinning for them fantastic tales he has sought from around the region and beyond. Nothing thrills him more than to see a small mass of faces absolutely enthralled with what he is saying, and he enjoys the experience as much--if not more so!--than those who stop to listen.

Because he likes always to have a story for every situation, he goes through great pains to learn every story he can. In this, he is diligent and persistent, scouring for every possible book within reach and chatting up every unlikely stranger for threads or story seeds that he can spin into gold. It takes a great deal of work and concentration, where his driven side comes in, but the product is so very rewarding and worth the effort.

His work, both the presentation of the stories and the searching for them, do take a toll on his energy, however. He tires quickly of socialization, and because of this can sometimes come across as callous and disinterested. He can be quick to shut down conversation, or will say something outlandish just to drive others away. Not often does he mean what he says, but his quick mind toward storytelling can be as quickly turned into a weapon against others if space is what he desires.

(Inspiration: old school bards)

Can be found reading a book, chatting up strangers in public places, or quietly speaking aloud to himself as he mentally works out his stories.

Pre-Novus

Ptolemy's early days were full of entertainment and enjoyment. The son of a leading pair, he was spoiled not only by his parents but by the herd as a whole, given too much freedom and his strange little childish whims entertained. He absolutely adored his childhood but came to expect in most things to get his way, and in this was set up for failure as an adult.

As he grew into a yearling, his parents tried to prepare him to eventually take over in their place. Unfortunately, the sort of work they wished him to do wasn't what captured his attention most. While they wanted him to chat up important figures and focus on politics, the foundational workings of diplomacy, Ptolemy wished to read and listen to stories. He had a ravenous mind that needed to be filled and given constant stimulation, the likes of which discussing herd things simply couldn't satisfy. He shirked his duties for his delights instead.

He expected, as with most things, for his parents to eventually give in to his desires and award him the freedom to pursue his own interests, but so long as he held his station he was expected to behave as a true heir. Ptolemy thought at first merely to step down and give himself the freedom he wanted...but his parents wouldn't allow such disgraceful behavior to exist in their herd. If he wanted only to tell frivolous stories, then he could leave. And so he did, fully with the expectation that his parents would change their minds and call him back. They never did.

Though he stuck close for a while, it became clear the herd intended to hold him to his word, and so the young stallion was forced to venture off on his own. It was incredibly difficult at first--the spoiled prince adjusting to life on the road--but the charm he did learn from his parents proved useful as it garnered him passage along with other traveling groups who he entertained with his tales. He learned slowly over time how to trade and barter with words and information, and reveled in the new reputation he was creating as a storyteller.

Wishing to further his repertoire and reputation in turn, eager to learn so many new stories and facts, he has continued to travel, now humbly forging a new path for himself.
