Solterran Enemy

The Queen of the canyon was dead.
A new King ruled this wasteland.

For weeks the Elder Teryr's young had whithered in their nest, waiting and watching for their mother to return with their daily feast of mountain goat from the Armas, seals from the sea, or better yet; horse from the sands of the Mors. While the fledgling Teryrs were skilled flyers already, they were certainly not equipped with the knowledge or now-how for aerial hunting and so had mostly gone hungry since their mother's untimely dissapearance.

Upon a ledge they swooped and nestled against each other, one, two and three. Their life was fun and lawless apart from the ribs that showed on their sides, and while they missed their mother quite dearly they certainly did not miss her curfews and strict preening regimen.

It was on this day that the true King of the canyon returned.
Having spent his spring and summer in the most northern part of Solterra, it was only through the smell of decay from thousands of miles away that he had caught wind of (one of his many) mate's death. Vengeance would come to whoever had killed her, and the male Teryr knew well that they did not simply die in their nests.

Collecting his children from their humble ledge upon the south eastern cliffs of the canyon where the river met the sea, The quartet of Taryrs made their way to first inspect the body of their long-deceased family member.  Arrows and spears, fire and blood had been the death of the territorial Teryress.

To the court of Day the family flew, the flock of timid youngins keeping close to their father as he first aimed his monolithic tail toward the heights of the tallest tower and attempted to knock the entire building to the ground. It appeared the elderly elder had lost his touch and his tail merely beat away the gallons of sand caked onto it, and instead he landed before the court in the cleared arena to unleash an almighty roar for those who resided inside, beckoning the famous Teryr slayers to come forth.

The Elder Teryr's mate seeks vengeance upon the day court!
ANYONE from ANY court can join this, but Day court members get a bonus ;)
Here's how this will work:

STATS:
The Teryr's health is currently at 100.
His attack is 85.

Your character will be using their individual health, attack and exp!
Add your characters health and exp together to get your character's health for THIS fight. (+5 for day court members)
Your attack will be the same.
For example, Maxence:
Health: (17 health + 28 exp + 5 day court bonus) 50
Attack: 23

You will be given a number when you post in the first round. This teryr post is #0, whoever posts next will be #1.
Numbers will be put through RNG to determine WHO gets damaged and how much! Damage will be decided like this:
(example) There are 6 characters, 4 will receive damage. I take teryrs total attack (85) and divide it by 4 (=12.5).
12.5 is now the maximum total of damage each character can get.
I put 12.5 through RNG for each character who was chosen in the first RNG for damage and whichever number is picked will be their damage.
If their health is 13 and RNG pciks a 6, they now have 7 health.
IF YOUR CHARACTER GETS TO 0 OR MINUS HEALTH THEY ARE KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND CANNOT CONTINUE!!

Likewise when we are attacking the teryr, I will put your character's damage stat thru RNG to determine how much damage the teryr takes from your character!
For example Maxence attacks and rolls a 14, Teryr looses 14 points of health.

Any questions please hmu (Meverrnind) on discord! :D This will be fun!

RE: eye for an eye - Maxence - 10-19-2017

M A X E N C E
i'm in the black again / not coming back again
we can just pretend / we'll make it home again
from everything now

It was the brontide of wings larger than life that had stirred the commander from within the heights of the tower, beckoning him from the depths of his chamber to the window sill. In a manner of seconds he was greeted with the terrifying blow of a Teryr's tail pommelling against the stone, brick and mortar, Sending Maxence against the opposite wall like a flea shaken from a lion.
Moments passed and the commander still could not come to his senses enough to work out just what on earth was happening. Primarily he assumed it had been an attack, and an actual explosion at that, but it was as he wrenched himself to a standing position that he recalled the howling of wings tearing through wind and the filthy scaled that collided with his skin through the window pane.
A Teryr.

Sucking in a shuddering breath, the Commander pinned his wings against his sides and made a leap for the broad tower windows, only just managing to soar through in time to flare his wings and catch upon the wind.
"TERYR!" He roared over the fort, aiming his flight upward and over the second tower until he descended upon the arena where the beast and his cowering children lay in wait. Landing with a vibrant, booming THUD upon the sand, sweeping a spray of dirt and debris in his wake the King gave his rallying cry.
"TO ARMS, SOLTERRA!"

Maxence's health for this fight is 50
Maxences attack is 23

RE: eye for an eye - Voltaire - 10-21-2017

Voltaire
Voltaire seldom slept anymore – it wasn’t that he didn’t try, but more often, it was the nightmares that kept him awake.  Just as he’d start to fall asleep, he’d see again in his mind’s eye, the fateful moment that had damned him.  He’d feel the weight of the crystal in his grasp, the way it curved and held a jagged edge, the way it plunged so deeply into the flesh and then the heart.  He’d see the shock – the whites of his eyes at the sudden and unexpected betrayal – smell the sanguine copper of blood on the fresh snow, and the chill of the brisk winter air as it brushed away the trails of adrenaline.

He stirred as the sound of wings clattered in the distance – flinched as the sound of claws scraped against the sandstone.  It didn’t take long for the blue stag to know something was amiss, and before his restless mind could process it completely, the cry of his king startled him into action.  He wasted little time, knowing that in times like these, all hands were needed (even the hands of a healer).  Dread filled the beast as he weaved down the narrow halls toward the open, finding the teryr and his young, eyes widening in surprise at the sight of such a beast.

Maxence was already there, already standing to fight against the terrible creature.  He wasted little time in playing the aggressor, even as Voltaire hesitated for a moment.  The crystal-horned stallion was nothing as a fighter – his trials as a youth had proved such things, and he’d washed out and become a lesser citizen in the eyes of his herd – a healer, who first served in battle by carrying water and sustenance to the fighters… and later, had learned the healing arts, slowly but over time.  This situation was different though, and as Voltaire looked around, he had to wonder if the others had heard or would come.

He could not stand idly by as his king fended off this great beast alone, so, healer or not, Voltaire rushed toward the scaled demon, wielding his crystal horn like a sword as he stabbed toward the soft underbelly of the teryr.

Character:  Voltaire
Health: 17 health + 10 experience + 5 day court bonus = 32
Attack: 2 (pitiful I know… he’s not a fighter, but he’s apparently a good punching bag!)

RE: eye for an eye - Eik - 10-21-2017

E I K
- - - - -

A shadow falls across the land. It is come and gone before he opens his eyes from sleep, but the blood rushes through his body even without having seen what it was that woke him. His pulse quickens, and he feels sharp and strong as a sword. He is moving to the day court without thinking, except for the quick check he does before every fight. He mentally prods at each muscle and bone, testing for any tightness or weakness.

He does not know how he knew a fight was upon them. How he was moving to the court before the call to arms was sounded. When he gets there it is almost a similar sight to a few weeks prior, except instead of Seraphina there is some giant beast of a bird looking quite angry.

(Do you think it is here to move rocks, too?

-Is that a smile? The blood makes you giddy doesn't it... Nostalgic, even, you broken thing)

The creature roars and he feels no fear, no hesitation. An eager smile widens on his lips, his heart pounding like a war drum. As the healer rushes forward, Eik keeps light on his toes and moves to one side, so the arc between himself and Maxence makes about a quarter circle around the teryr. It is his hope the great beast will be distracted from the horn that nears its belly (he knows it is unlikely) and if it is not, well, by spreading out they increase the chances of revealing a weak point and decrease the chances of all being smooshed in one fell swoop.

RE: eye for an eye - Ki'irha - 10-21-2017

The starlit dame couldn't have told you why she wandered into the Day Court's territory that day. She had found herself becoming more isolated and reserved with each passing day, and her wandering loop seemed to grow larger as she skirted past her own herd's boundaries. She paced along the desert's edge, and had be intercepted by another mare who had stumbled upon Ki'irha during a patrol. It felt wrong entering the herd lands without formal invitation, but rumors spoken freely that she had overheard discussed the proud forces of Solterra's army, and the midnight mare wanted to see for herself. So, the mare of the sun court escorted her in, telling her small bits about the ways of the sun court until they could meet with someone of higher power.

Ki'irha was a warrior at heart. Perhaps she belonged among a herd that valued her kind above others, though she never considered herself special or deserving special merit. Still, it would be interesting to see what all of the talk was about.

As they pair approached the court, she assessed the towering fortress, impressed by the architecture. She had never seen anything like it, and nearly missed the arrival of the great beast that threatened the peace. But her silver eyes were keen, and she leapt back as the teryr commenced it's assault.

She didn't pause for her escort, instead leaping forward upon long legs and thundering towards the tower. Her gallop was uneven due to the sandy terrain but she adapted, reaching the battle just as several others emerged from the swirling cloud of dust. A loud voice, commanding and firm, bellowed forth from a pegasus stallion, and she could only assume he lead the military forces with his forceful orders. Two others, armed with swords as she, seemed to dance towards the monster's underbelly.

She was unfamiliar with these warriors. They certainly would work together as a well oiled machine if they belonged to the same army, and she was already working at a disadvantage being an outsider. She glanced towards the winged man, happy to follow his orders should they come, so keeping one ear twisted towards him she moved around to keep the circle intact. She leapt towards the beast, with the wing her ultimate target. Though she needed to be mindful of the appendage and the damage it could inflict, she also knew that crippling it and keeping it land-bound would help even the playing field. For they could all fight it in the sand, but if it raised into the sky again, it would only be a fight for the pegasi.

Where was the fun in that?

RE: eye for an eye - Eden - 10-22-2017

Eden

pretty

Dusted with star matter and borne upon tides of nature, hers is the beauty of wild places.

TO ARMS, SOLTERRA

The cry rolled over the central city of the sands, a summons to assemble and defend the land that had become their home. Eden had been within a newly cleared shed when the monster had descended upon her kingdom, ebony locks peppered with dust and sand as she tidied up the small outbuilding. Ears perking, the girl straightened, amber eyes flitting to the open doorway through which Maxences's reply to the Teryr's roar could be heard. Glancing at the pile of armaments and shields, Eden decided that her victories would be wrought of her own flesh, not by steel. Turning about and cantering through the doorway, the paladin traversed the tight streets of her city and into the fray.

It took only seconds before golden hooves carried the mare to the arena and the chaos that was ensuing within; Maxence - glory be to him - standing as a radiant beacon of power, refusing to be cowed by the wretched beast that screeched it's challenge before him; Voltaire, the healer, plunging forth with his mighty horn blazing in the sun; and two of those that he had yet to meet, a pale woman with a warrior's gaze, and a healer stallion whom Eden had spied at herd gatherings. Eyes widening, Eden found herself shocked at the lack of brothers and sisters in arms - where was Leviathan? Avdotya? Seraphina? Where were Solis' beloved warriors?

Gritting her teeth, the girl shook the thoughts from her mind, there were more important things to consider - such as the strategy to take the monster and  his ilk to the grave. Moving to Maxence's side, the shield maiden gave a hasty half-salute before shouting over the din, "Commandant, I will help distract the beast until more reinforcements arrive to organize an attack - an aerial attack may be beneficial." While she did not directly tell her sovereign what to do, neither did the paladin wait for orders, and it was clear that with Maxence being the only winged member of the company, her suggestion was aimed at him. If it were another scenario, one that they had time to prepare for, one that hadn't occurred by surprise in their own fortress, Eden would have never acted with such brazen neglect for rank.

But it was not a different scenario and precious moments could not be wasted on petty titles.

Charging forward without another word, the lass moved within a few yards of the bird beast and reared back, her many bangles catching the sun and flashing the the direction of the monster's gaze. It was her goal to distract the beast, to guide his attention away from what would rain down upon him from above and below. Lowering her hooves back to the earth, the girl quickly moved a dozen feet to her left before performing the same dance - rearing back and attempting to infuriate the Teryr enough to make it stupid, to make it ignorant of it's surroundings.

And though her teeth and hooves ached for the sweet sing of combat, Eden bided her time, praying all the while that Maxence would act and that Leviathan would arrive.

RE: eye for an eye - Leviathan - 10-22-2017

LEVIATHAN
the supernova

To arms to arms. It had rung out clear as a bell and the titan had surged forward, ears back against his skull and teeth baring at the mention of the word Teryr. He had been busy in the shack of the blacksmith, so it wasn't like he was far, he was simply... stuck. Ridiculously stuck in the tiny shack he'd started to make his own for blacksmithing.

Originally he'd been working on clearing it out, which had gone well the past while, and he wanted to expand on it. It wasn't as if he could actually fit inside that well, with his horns nearly tapping the ceiling of the structure. It was still something though, and he wanted to get the forge outside, the tools outside. He'd been working on renovating when that cry had gone up, when the ground had rumbled and the shriek pierced the air.

This place was too small for him.

Leviathan found himself trying to turn around in the shack, banging in to the bits of wood serving as tables, his head getting stuck in chains that wrapped his horns. It was a mess, and he felt himself kicking out, breaking down wood and jerking his head, struggling to free himself. It took a few moments, sadly, and he jerked his head, tearing out the chains from their hooks in the old walls, and he shifted and turned and tried to get himself out the exit. He only managed when he'd knocked down a chunk of wall with his exit, which he had lunged to do with his hooves slamming it down.

Dust and sand flew up around him as he exited, shaking his head and allowing the chain to slither off his head and on to the ground, and his gaze whipped around to the beast that had come.

Levi's lips peeled back, and he strode forward, ears going back. He didn't even wait for the call from Maxence, from others, instead lowering his head and surging forward with a powerful push of hind legs.

He was the Champion of Battle for a reason, and now he would soak himself in the blood of the Teryr beasts once more.

RE: eye for an eye - Seraphina - 10-24-2017

DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI

--

“TO ARMS, SOLTERRA!”

She was out of the library in a bolt of molten quicksilver, white hair trailing in her wake; no hesitation lingered in her bounding strides, no longer hampered by the injury that had left her stumbling for weeks. Dark hooves slammed against the cold sandstone floor in rhythmic, sharp claps as she burst out of the room, cascading down the halls as a banner of glistening charcoal silk. Seraphina half-stumbled down the steep, awkward flights of stairs in her anticipation, sides trembling with perspiration that was already beginning to form. She couldn’t be sure of what had provoked Maxence, but she had a notion of it – the sound of massive wings and the loud thump from the opposite tower was audible even in the library, and, had she not been so engrossed in her readings, she might have been spurred to motion by the familiar noise. As Seraphina darted by one of the windows, she paused for a fraction of a second to peer outside; as her frantic glance passed the arena, she found her fears confirmed. A teryr, accompanied by several young. It seemed that the beast was already surrounded, but she didn’t want to think about what damage it could do the garden and arena they’d toiled to create. Grimacing, she continued through the fortress, finally dashing out of a side entrance and into the scalding heat and sun of the day.

Maxence and Eik hung back in what she imagined to be preparation – or, perhaps, distraction. Voltaire had rushed the beast, crystalline horn aimed at its stomach; she admired his bravery, particularly given that he was a healer, rather than a warrior. Some woman with a leonine tail and wicked horn, painted dark, endless blue and dappled with silver that reminded Seraphina of a starlit sky, rushed the teryr, her aim clearly focused on the teryr’s wing. (Internally, she commended her stratagem, though she hardly had the time to tell her that now.) Eden dashed in front of the teryr, her glistening golden bangles catching in the sunlight; she was trying to cause a distraction, Seraphina imagined. Eden was a bright one, accustomed to the ways of combat. Leviathan appeared just after her, charging the beast with his massive bulk – he leaped at it, and she imagined that, should he manage to hit the teryr, it would be much like being hit by a battering ram.

With their positions in mind, Seraphina joined the fray, cool indifference plastered across her features. She approached the teryr from its side, attempting to dart under the wing that was not presently being assailed by the starlit mare - were she able to reach the delicate humerus, she would rear up and aim to batter it with her hooves, hoping to snap the bone and leave the teryr grounded. The wings would cause trouble enough even if it didn’t take to the air, and, if it did, the only pegasus around was Maxence, though she expected Inkheart would appear eventually. It was of no importance to her; Seraphina was focused purely on the task at hand.

Seraphina's health is 29. (8 base + 16 exp + 5 Day Court bonus)

Summary : Seraphina shows up, takes a look at everybody, and attempts to go for the humerus of the wing that Ki'irha's not already attempting to handle.
just trying to get this one done - quality will probably improve once I'm not worrying about midterms, RIP

RE: eye for an eye - Vadim - 10-25-2017

He doesn't, at first, understand the chaos and the stench.  He only heard the beast's scream and the slam of body on stone from the opposite side of the keep.  The golden stallion's ears pinned back against his sleek skull, momentarily frozen for fear of this great unknown.  Unblooded and gentle, it was not in his nature to turn to violence first for all that he had been raised in a land every bit as harsh as this one.

TO ARMS, SOLTERRA!

It is bell and battlecry, thunder and lion's roar that can be heard even over the screaming of the beast.  It breaks the paralysis that had frozen him in place.  Tentatively he steps foreward, towards the chaos.  Then a mountain passes him, the ground thundering beneath his hooves and Vadim pins his ears back again, lips curling back briefly from his teeth as he spurs himself into a gallop behind. This is his home.  A strange on, perhaps, but it was his now.  Maxence's queer combination of authority and brotherhood, Bexley's adamant faith, Seraphina's quiet wisdom.  Even Inkheart's devotion, witnessed only from a distance- these things meant something to him.

The gods would be damned if he didn't defend this place that had taken him in.

As he approached the arena he tried not to question his fortitude- the beast was massive, a monstrosity.  Then he noticed fledglings around it's feet and his stride faltered.  They looked so thin.  His heart ached and he tore his sky-eyes from them.  Instead he caught sight of the silver Seraphina and though he did not divine her purpose exactly he darted after her.  He knew little of combat but when the wing began to move he followed instinct and whipped his hind up in a sharp quick, aiming for the cords of muscle that rippled just beneath the skin.

Summary: Vadim goes to help Seraphina because he doesn't know what he's doing and tries to kick the teryr's wing.  AND HE FEELS BAD FOR THE BABIES.

RE: eye for an eye - Rordan - 10-25-2017

The Teryr is not the only creature to venture South, nor the only one to trespass in Solterran skies. Though the Bard's wingspan is not nearly as impressive as the shrieking beasts', he can't help the amused smirk that crosses his black face.

Think you're so tough, big fella? Well guess who's been after you all day. Thanks for the ride, you fat dolt!

He has been trailing in the bird's wake for the last few hours, taking advantage of the updraft produced by its wings to drift effortlessly above the sea of sand. Besides, the overpowering heat of the desert is more tolerable for one blessed by flight. It certainly has nothing to do with the fact that flight is much faster than running, or that the country he is fleeing from lacks an airborne guard.

Decades from now another bard will sing of the remarkably talented, incredibly handsome Rordan that outsmarted the King of Deltro by hijacking a Teryr! Truly a ballad such as that will delight crowds -- nay, whole realms! -- of his admirers, despite some omissions from the truth.

Of course, no one will want to hear about why I've enslaved the Teryr, only how I did it. No one needs to know it was for an escape attempt… Deltronians are known to be easily offended, but that King of theirs must be fashioned from mouse whiskers to have such thin skin! He snorts with indignation as images of the surly tyrant resurface, banishing them to subconscious abyss they crept out of. His thoughts return to his prospective ballad instead. ”Best to look to the future and forget the past,” as Father liked to say. Especially about me.

When he closes his eyes he can see them: the gaggle of pretty girls writhing and twisting, wildly throwing their heads back as if to catch the lyrics and swallow them whole. Their movements are erratic, stirring the air around them like luxuriant twisters and forming clouds of dust. The Bard licks his succulent lips, tasting the grit they have left there while squeezing past their glistening bodies; as much as he’d like to stay to watch, he is more interested in experiencing the rest of the celebrations in honor of his great conquest. The area around the stage is packed, and equines of all varieties clamor around it to hear the epic melody. Hooves strike the cobblestone streets in time to the tune, turning it into more of a chant when the crowd adds their own voices to the song. It’s a cheery carol with a steady rhythm -- so even those without talent can follow along -- but the tempo slows steadily as the chorus nears the end until only the minstrel’s voice remains:

“TO ARMS, SOLTERRA”

With his egotistical illusion shattered, golden eyes snap open to locate the one who interrupted him. Panic seizes him almost immediately: while he has been daydreaming, his chauffeur has taken it upon himself to make a pitstop, forcing Rordan into a dive as the Teryr takes its rising currents with it.

Whoever has interrupted his thoughts has also given him enough time to halt his descent. With a gunt of effort, the Bard angles his wings against the approaching wind. His annoyance is swept away by the current, and he casts his gaze downwards, in search of the man once more. From this new vantage point below the clouds he can make out half a dozen figures, not including the hulking form of the winged beast.

It must have been one of them who sounded the alarm. Though the sun is behind him, the winged man squints. It’s difficult to tell from such a distance, but it appears as if they are rallying to fight the screeching beast rather than flee from it. The Bard watches them as they charge the Teryr, trying to decide what kind of man he’d like to be: a craven with a misleading melody, or a warrior with an early grave.

Damn it all. Should I live, it’ll be a grander song for it!

Relenting to the greedy pull of gravity, he pulls his wings tight against his gold-dappled sides in a backwards somersault. The chains wrapped loosely around him wink at the sun while he falls. Laughter bubbles up past his lips like a fountain. He aims his slender front legs at the beast’s back -- hoping that those fighting below are a decent distraction -- and adds his own cry to the roar of the wind.

{HP is 10 + 10 + 5 = 25 | Attack is 10!
Rordan dives at the Teryr from the sky, aiming to slam his hooves into its back}
