RE: heliophilics - Mathias - 12-09-2018

if you wanna start a fight, you better throw the first punch

“The morning needs to offer more fucking coffee,” He quips back to the God, his singular eye squinting and deeply unimpressed with everything that Solis has thus far offered. They move like a singular unit, the most cohesion the Court has likely ever shown, and if the description of the Elks are familiar to the monochromatic stallion, he doesn’t show it -- only gives Teiran a thin-lipped glare for how doubtful she had been when he had first mentioned the elks to her.

He stares the herd down for a brief moment, calculating their rag-tag odds against the massive beasts, and for a moment he longs for the armor he’d worn for so long -- but there was no time now to fetch his armor, and a battle awaited. There’s anticipation curling through his veins like smoke, and he offers a bared-teeth smile to the bull-like stallion who is already doubting.

“We hit ‘em where it hurts,” and he’s moving forward in a flowing mass of muscles and summoned rage, teeth bared and eye gleaming in the overhead sun, charging through the snow as though it doesn’t hinder him any -- this is something he’s familiar with, blood-lust and battle-rage, and with every stride he grows more sure of himself until he’s colliding with one of the smaller elks on the edge of the herd in a flurry of hooves and teeth.

RE: heliophilics - Saphrax - 12-09-2018

Saphrax was not usually one to be confrontational, but this female was quick to tell him just because he was not a fan of the heat or the cold, that he should find his home elsewhere when the temperature was more stable. He nearly rolled his eyes at her. “You would think that you might want the numbers in your little band of misfits. I have things to offer, though none of you have cared to ask.” He had yet to have anyone come up and introduce themselves to him. In other places he lived, the herds were far more welcoming. It seemed everyone in this group had a chip on their shoulder. He didn’t let it bother him too much, he would show them a little sunshine and smiles to go a long way.

However, despite her unwelcoming demeanor, Saphrax tries his hardest to simply ignore her and follow the rest towards some sort of hunt. He hears something about elk and he wonders when the elk have ever created a blizzard of sorts. He cannot recall them ever doing so in any of his wanderings.

But then the fog lifts and the herd can be seen settled in the valley. It is an interesting sight to behold. There is a voice that pipes up over the crowd asking if anyone knows how to fight them. “Perhaps they die as easily as normal elk…” Although Saphrax knows he has never tried to kill a normal elk before, he supposed a good blow to the head would work if one could get past the antlers.

But then someone is charging and Saphrax’s eyes watch him as he comes forward. While Saphrax has never been a fighter, he supposes he could heard the elk towards the warriors. And so, he takes flight and off he goes to help herd the beasts in the direction of the warriors. His wings beat the cold air and it takes a little more coordination to rise in the cold air, but he is flying and that is all that really matters.

RE: heliophilics - Veer - 12-09-2018

the divine beasts
"It will stop your breath, how cruel I can be."

Of course he is more bold and more impatient than a sun god (and of course he thinks his wings must seem like might shadows to blot out the sun to the elk below). Veer does nothing to check his speed as he dives for the largest Elk at the front of the herd.

Even Elif cannot catch his attention now (although perhaps he does arch his neck a little bolder to taunt her). He knows who she thinks he is, of course he knows.

The Black Falcon killed her brother after all.

Veer (or rather the Black Falcon) attacks as a carrion bird does, all feathers and teeth, hunger and blackness. He is made for this violence and war. There is a lovely hint of feral rage in the way he slams into the elk. His teeth clack like Najjad's beak as he lunges for the creature's throat as he tries to push it down, down, down into the same snow it thought to bury them all in.

His hooves scrabble across the snow and each bit of ice that cuts into his skin only pushes him deeper down into that pit of fury, blood-lust and joy. At his side his wings push against the wind and snow to keep him from tumbling down with the elk. The horn of the elk cutting into his neck does nothing more than make him snarl and snap like a wolf.

Over and over he snaps and strikes in a flurry of aggression. Later there will be time for pain and regret, but now--

Now there is only death.

RE: heliophilics - Elif - 12-10-2018

elif

Where Elif would hesitate, waiting until somebody (their queen, or their god, or even one of the elk) makes the correct decision clear, in the end the black stranger chooses for her.

He dives for one of the winter-blue beasts, and Elif, not to be outdone, follows suit.

Oh, she does not attack as he does; she has neither the bulk nor the blood-lust. But she dives in close to the creatures, buffets her wings in their faces, slashes with her hooves as she dances just over their heads. All the while the wind helps her, as it can; it bears up her wings, it fights against the snow and ice that streams from the herd’s mouths.

She dares not touch down onto the ground; she is small enough that she knows she might be trampled. But she also forgets her distractions, man and god alike, and sets her teeth against the winter and her heart into the chaos.

RE: heliophilics - Teiran - 12-10-2018

BLESSED BY A BITCH FROM A BASTARD SEED
pleasure to meet you, prepare to bleed
Teiran didn't care for the fire-winged pegasus' retort. Clearly he knew nothing of Solterra nor its people, but if he could prove himself useful through actions rather than words then just maybe she could overlook the ignorance. The warrior could only assume he was new, and whether that was a good or bad thing was yet to be seen. This fight might just be proof he was looking for to show off just what he had to offer.

As it was, even if she felt like arguing with a stranger, it wasn't long before the air cleared, exposing a herd of elk in the distance just as Solis had said there was. He wasted no time in moving toward them, and if Teiran could be interested in anything it was how the sun god would fight. Of that, even her incredibly mild curiosity was piqued. And then an unfortunately familiar black and white blur started racing for them, all anger and blood lust and all she can think is for fuck's sake.

Even if these strange mystical elk were real as he claimed, that didn't mean he should go charging off to get impaled on one of their no doubt giant antlers that can make snow and ice. With a snort and a stomp of her hoof, she took off to follow him, thinking he was more liable to be killed than anything else. After the state she found him in during the blizzard, Teiran wouldn't be surprised if that was the truth. And as she raced forward, the muscles in her body preparing to defend, she wondered when she started protecting Solterrans from themselves.

RE: heliophilics - Seraphina - 12-10-2018

☼ s e r a p h i n a ☼

AS A GIRL, I WAITED PATIENTLY TO CATCH FIRE
as if it were something worth wanting

There are a few things that Seraphina knows about fire. One is that, when hot enough, it burns in a way that feels cold - and as she eyes the sun god, watching his scalding stare drag its way along the others that have gathered, she thinks that their personalities might not be in as great of a contrast as she has always assumed. His smile is all teeth – a harbinger.

His laugh, however, is fractionally warmer; she follows his gesture towards the parting mist and shudders at what is gathered within. They’re outnumbered, and those antlers…though little more than an illusory haze from such a distance, she isn’t sure that she likes their odds against the beasts. She eyes the Sun God as he suggests that they get started, and she considers ways to deal with them – if they spook easily, perhaps they could drive them towards the canyon, run them off the edges, or-

But they are already in motion, uncoordinated and singular; she gives a soft hiss of frustration as the black pegasus swoops towards his prey, griffin alongside him, and Elif follows; Matthias charges into the fray without an ounce of hesitation or tact, and Teiran, clearly frustrated, is quick to follow; Saphrax lingers, takes to flight, and she wonders if he intends to herd them. The only one among them with hesitation or consideration is, to her shock, El Toro, and she turns to glance at him, muscles tensing. “Go for their legs. If you maim them, they should go down, and they’ll be easier to deal with…and watch for their antlers.” She looks at the battle that has already begun, with or without thought, with or without the orders of her or the god at her side, and bites back a sigh. Attempting to control Solterra was like attempting to control the desert sands; they shifted and danced in the wind, outside of all control.

She tosses a long look at the Sun God over her shoulder. “I believe that this is where I pray that you watch over us in battle,” she murmurs, with a low dip of her head, then strides forward, towards the herd of elk. Seraphina is no tossing mass of muscle and teeth and hoof; she is cool, eerie composure, sharp and accurate as a knife. She stays low to the ground and tensed, and she tries to stay in their blind spots – and, as she strides towards the first elk she reaches, she lashes out towards its hindquarters, trying to grab a nice mouthful of leg and jerk the creature off-balance. If she isn't careful (though she always is), she might find herself the recipient of a kick to the chest or neck, but she tries to bite it from an angle, to stay out of the direct line of its hooves. She is no wolf, but, a hunter now, she moves like one.

RE: heliophilics - Torstein - 12-11-2018

chest: CLOSED — .. i almost forgot about this — "Speech" and Thoughts

Just as he expected, this was a shitshow.

His lumbering gate met the groups' as he flanked behind Solis, the distance melting away beneath their hooves. For a solitary moment, he truly believed it might not be a shitshow, and that there actually might be some semblance of teamwork amongst them. But unfortunately, that dream was short lived...

The herd of Elk crested on the horizon, and they were truly, truly massive beasts. They dwarfed even Torstein, and he felt his muscles tighten at the thought. The fight with the Teryr flashed through his mind, but he did not feel that these creatures were so.... violent. So the Warden watched with dull shock - eyes only slightly brighter and ears only perked up ever so slightly - as the two pegasus dove, dove, dove... watched as Mathias bolted forward, bloodlust staining his teeth an ugly shade. The rest - well, some were more reserved, but overall only one sole citizen offered any thought into a even slightly-well-formed plan of attack. Did they even know what they were fighting?

"How do we even know they're aggressive? Are you leading us into a fight blind?" tore a snarl from his lips as he addressed Solis, eyes igniting with frustration as they honed on the back of his godforsakenly shiny head. His voice was loud enough - booming, deep enough - for most everyone to hear... and hopefully they'd heed his sliver of advice.

But despite his frustration, Tor still kept parallel pace with Seraphina, dull eyes drifting over to her as everyone else bolted forth into the fray. "No one's really changed since I've been gone, have they?" he muttered offhandedly. Not so standard small talk, rolling off his tongue like black ooze. It tasted sour. His eyes averted again, staring deftly ahead.

"With all due respect, Sovereign..." he murmured between breaths as his pace quickened to keep up with the group, addressing Seraphina and anyone who would think to listen to the Warden. If he was honest: the word Sovereign was almost foreign to him - and it was one of the first times he had ever addressed Seraphina as such. ".... my suggestion would be to flank them, to try and herd them out, versus bash headlong into a fight where we do not know what we are going up against."

His gaze did not meet her's, nor Solis', nor anyone else's. "If they can create blizzards.... who knows what else they can do?" Not his first battle, certainly, and it was an odd day when Torstein was more reserved and well-thought out than the majority of the group. And for once, Torstein stayed by Seraphina's side, his hoofbeats a steady sound alongside her own.

Eyes pierced the back of Solis' head with fervor. "Solis help us all if they prove to be more powerful than a Teryr," came the growl, bloody frustration dripping from his words. He felt his heart thrumming in his chest, beating hard behind those spines.

As everyone broke off, so did he. Blood rushed deafeningly through his ears as he crested around the outskirts of the herd. Hopefully those attacking would keep the rest of the herd distracted enough for the massive Warden to flank behind them, bolting past and nipping at heels, haunches, and tails as he tried to herd them - spook them - together out of the Mors. If someone ever inquired, you better believe he'd admit to feeling like a damn cattle dog.

And it was not a feeling he enjoyed.

RE: heliophilics - Random Events - 12-12-2018

”Do we actually know how to fight them?” Solis smiles back at the stallion with a wild grin, the enthusiasm clear as day in his eyes. “Why, you use the weapons Tempus gave you!”

As the Court begins to disperse - off to do whatever it is they do best, he is sure - Solis leans his head close to Seraphina to listen. For a moment his facade seems to disappear, and something almost-serious seems to come through. “Oh, my dear Sovereign, don’t you know?” he murmurs, lifting his legs into a trot. “I have always watched over the Day Court.”

From the corner of his eye he contemplates the Warden, tossing his head as if to say ”follow me, won’t you?” “Since when were you one for caution?” he asks, and it seems there is a taunting edge to his voice. “Nonetheless, you might have a point after all…” His pace continues to increase, until he is rushing headlong down the snow-covered dunes, following Torstein’s lead.

And as they come upon the herd, his voice raises to call out to the group of warriors: “Surround them! We’ll drive them out of the desert!”

The elk, sensing their presence, begin to mill about restlessly, pressing their bodies against one another. Clouds gather above them, endless snow flurries drifting back down to the desert. The greater their agitation, the more powerful the storm grows, until it seems the herd is about ready to stampede and flood the earth in snow along the way. As Torstein takes a side, Solis takes the other, and beckons for the Court to fill in the gaps.

The herd responds in kind, kicking their heels at the incoming equines and even daring to charge one or two. They are bigger than the equines, but they lack their speed: they are slow and clumsy, and Solis himself finds them easy to dodge. But the god has another trick up his sleeve: his frame is positively glowing with light, bright enough to blind the elk and cause further confusion. He rushes back and forth, left then right then left again, keeping the elk turned away from himself - but more importantly, away from his mortal charges.

And soon, the herd begins to move. One breaks and the rest follow, fleeing from the attacking equines. Solis presses the charge, determined to follow until they were well away from the Day Court.

He didn’t have to look back to know the others were doing the same. All they had to do now was flank them to drive them in a single direction.

RE: heliophilics - Saphrax - 12-14-2018

As the half-phoenix begins to take flight, he turns his head ever so slightly to see what the rest of the others are doing. Most are charging forward, only a few hold back. While Saphrax has never been a fighter, he has other skillsets that might work better than brute strength. It’s not to be misunderstood that Saphrax is not a strong individual. The stallion has all the muscle and force behind his attacks, he just is more fearful of scaring than anyone else. He had to keep his coat looking it’s best, after all.

And so, the fiery stallion flies forward at a leisurely pace, letting the fighters pull ahead. He circles the group, helping to herd the stragglers towards the warriors. He would let them take the scaring, he would simply bring the battle to them. That seemed like a logical plan in his eyes.

It is then that the snow begins to fall, the moving elk clearly the source of the blizzard that seems to be brewing. He continues to circle the elk, helping the God in the best way he knew how. When one elk tried to break away, he was quick to herd it back towards the others as they moved the herd out of the desert. If he had to admit, this little activity was fun and it was far more amusing than sitting on his ass all day.

RE: heliophilics - Teiran - 12-15-2018

BLESSED BY A BITCH FROM A BASTARD SEED
pleasure to meet you, prepare to bleed
As Teiran raced after Mathias, who while brazenly was headed directly toward the herd of elk was also doing it incredibly recklessly, she heard the voice of Solis rising up behind her through the snow that had started to relentlessly fall from the sky. No doubt the doing of the elks, as they startled and, perhaps, geared up for a fight. Pushing herself to run harder, Teiran aimed to put herself between @Mathias and the herd, that way he didn't do something he'd regret, or rather something the others might regret him doing. In her peripheral vision she saw a few of the spooked elks lash out, and knew that their huge size would land a harsh blow to any who got too near.

Keeping an eye on Mathias as she ran, Teiran reached forward and nipped at the sides and heels of a few of the beasts as they started to turn and run in a collective group. She needed to keep them veering in a single direction, as hopefully the others also helped to guide them and keep them in line. She had no idea where they were leading the herd, but hoped that Solis knew what he was doing. She would just have to listen to any commands given by him or Seraphina, as they seemed to be heading up the back of the group. Whatever happened here Teiran just hoped they would get rid of these elk and the damn snow they had brought with them.
