It's Been a Long, Long Time - Liam - 09-06-2021

BUCKY & LIAM,

It seemed like Susurro Fields were his favorite place to frequent in the lands of Dusk Court. Outside of the Citadel and the main hub of the Court itself, that is. Here, in the expansive field that he found himself lounging in every so often, he didn't feel claustrophobic, didn't feel like the world was closing in on him, and he didn't feel like his lungs were going to give out on him. Here, in Susurro Fields, he felt free, he felt welcomed, and most importantly, he felt comfortable. The grasses hid tiny creatures like rabbits, mice, burrowing owls, and prairie chickens. The larger animals, such as pronghorn antelope, whitetail deer, coyotes, and even elk criss-crossed the Fields, clearly cherishing the safety that they felt there. Liam could understand how they felt; out here in the fresh air, he could really relax and stretch his legs and go about his day as if nothing had happened.

As it was, the copper-burnished stallion was coming into the Fields after a long day of working out, working with the military, and making sure the other soldiers had everything that they needed for the next day. His coat was darkened from a recent bath, and his white markings gleamed in the early afternoon sun. The stallion and his colleagues had gotten incredibly sweaty, frothy, and dirty during their excursions, which had warranted his bath. It'd been a luxurious event, one where he took his time getting clean; very rarely did he get the chance to relax that way, and he wasn't about to pass up that opportunity. The sun above blazed on, and yet the grasses in the Fields stayed as luxurious and viridian as they always had.

With a tender smile on his face, Liam crested a gentle incline, looking for the best place to take a midday siesta. Pricking his ears forward, he looked a picture of regal formality as the gentle breeze took his tail and billowed it out behind him, his mane lifting from his neck as he peered over Susurro Fields. Spotting a comfortable spot that was near his position, he walked off the incline and trotted toward the spot, thankfully finding it clear of any burrowing owl nest or prairie dog holes. Grunting softly as he lowered himself to the ground, his legs bent comfortably against the ground in the sternal recumbency position that he found he favored when laying on the ground outside. It kept him clean -- mostly -- and he found it easier to get up and protect himself if he needed to. Such was the life of a soldier, not that he had any regrets.

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Buchanan - 09-06-2021

CAN YOU KEEP ME CLOSE,

He was late.

Weeks. Months. It was a muddled mess of how much time had passed since he’d holed himself up in that far off realm with a smile and a promise to reunite soon. He carved out a mundane life for himself, settled into a rented room, and pretended that he would be okay. Making peace with himself was no easy task, and not having Liam by his side made it all the more difficult. But he’d tried.

Day in and day out he fell into a routine, told himself that he would leave soon. There was no place in any realm or land that Liam could run to that bucky wouldn’t know to follow. But day after day he would linger just a little bit longer. He would make up an excuse that he would tell himself, and ignore the ache in his heart. This wasn’t the life that Bucky wanted, but he’d needed more to finally give him that final push out the door.

It had started with a simple restlessness. He couldn’t sleep, and while this happened often there was something notably different about these unruly nights. He would catch himself reaching out, seeking the warmth of someone who wasn’t there.

Then in the busy market places, with a basket at his side and a cloak over his shoulders, he would hear his name being called in a familiar voice. Countless times he would turn in the hopes that Liam had come to him, only to be met with a crowd of too many faces but not the one he was searching for.

Bucky realized some days later that he was missing Liam. What he was feeling was a deeply seated need to return to his childhood friend's side, to press his face against that solid shoulder once more, and breathe in that well-known scent. No matter how much he tried to convince himself that these lands, and the four walls around him would do, there was no mistaking the lie. Liam was and always had been the star beckoning him home. Unsurprisingly there was very little that he thought to bring with him. He owned nothing of value, so with no fanfare he’d set off.

It had taken him a bit of time, but like always Bucky found who he had been looking for.

The wide stretch of field allowed him to see the back of the familiar figure before he descended down the small crest. It was enough to leave the scarred stallion breathless. A simple glance was all it took and his heart was soaring in his chest, leaving him light-footed as he picked up his pace. Finally, after all this time he would be home again. That empty hole carved out deep inside of him would be mended, and all Bucky could think is that he was a fool to have thought he was better off alone.

No. No, this is what he needed — who he needed.

Surely you’re not expectin’ to take a nap now, are ya?” he called out softly — warmly.

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Liam - 09-06-2021

BUCKY & LIAM,

It'd been months since he'd last seen the scarred stallion with whom he'd fallen so deeply in love.

Months.

There was no true animosity that Liam felt toward the darker stallion. After all, things had happened, he'd left Caeleste, and while they'd found each other back in Agnosia, their time there, too, was short. There were things on the horizon for the copper-burnished stallion that couldn't be found in Agnosia, as much as he adored his homeworld. The lives that he and Bucky had created there, at first, were mundane, boring, nonexistent.

Ironically, Liam realized as he lay there on the ground in Susurro Fields, their lives both before they left Agnosia the first time and when they returned were mundane, the same thing every day. While structure and routine were both important to them both as sufferers from PTSD, Liam couldn't imagine himself settling down in Agnosia, not when their love was still seen as outlawed. The tyrannical king still hadn't bowed down, not even when his own son had taken up with a lover that was a stallion.

Liam's life in Novus was good. It had nearly everything he'd ever wanted, except that one thing. Sure, he could have gone out and found someone else to warm his bed and heart, but he couldn't do that. Not when his heart was held in the hooves of a taller, scarred, grumpy stallion.

There'd been many times he'd stared at the moon in the sky before bed, begging and pleading with Vespera to bring Bucky to him, that he'd do anything for the stallion to be in his home with him. Of course, nothing had ever happened, and he went about his days as best he could, trying to push away the empty feelings, the feelings of being incomplete and insignificant.

With a heavy heart, Liam knew that those feelings were going to linger no matter how hard he tried to push them away. In the nights where he woke up in a panic, all he wanted was someone beside him to help ground him, to help him realize that he was safe. It'd been a long time since he'd felt safe, but he forced himself to remain in Novus. It was the one place that he felt welcomed and appreciated. It was strange, he noticed, how quickly everyone seemed to warm up to him, especially after his days of his self-imposed isolation and how he hid away in his old home in the furthest corner of Susurro Fields.

But now? Now he was living in the center of Dusk Court, with a proper home, a fireplace, and many rooms.

Liam was finding himself acting more and more like an adult and not some hermit.

The sound of hoofbeats caught his attention, but he didn't bother lifting his head from where it rested on the ground. He was too comfortable. The sun was nice and warm, beating down on his still-damp coat as he sunbathed, his sides rising and falling slowly as he continued to drift off to a light doze. But sleep was not to be. Rather, the voice of a loved one brought him out of his slumber, and he jumped slightly -- as much as he could, anyway -- and lifted his head rather quickly, his vision swimming for a few beats before it focused.

No, it couldn't be.

Oh, but it was.

"Bucky," he breathed, scrambling to his hooves before he nearly tripped over his own hooves in his excitement to get to his love. "Please tell me you're real and not some dream," he pleaded quietly, even as he pressed his face into Bucky's warm, real neck.

"Liam Speaks."

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Buchanan - 09-06-2021

CAN YOU KEEP ME CLOSE,

His eyes shined with mirth as he watched the way Liam scrambled to stand. It warmed him pleasantly to see such an excited reaction, to know that even after all this time the other stallion was still thrilled to see him. Bucky wasn’t sure what he would have done if he’d been met with anything but the joy he could see now. Anger, indifference, or even a shadow of annoyance would have been understandable — heart breaking, but understandable. Distance was no easy thing.

But as Liam pressed his face against his neck, Bucky released a soft sigh of relief. His own head shifted to press against that warm shoulder, a soft smile on his lips. His eyes closed, and in just a matter of a few moments he could feel the warm embrace of home welcoming him back.

It felt endless, all encompassing, and entirely breathtaking as he stood there basking in the glow of the one thing he’d never thought he’d have — love. Even months apart it seemed as though he had just been here yesterday, poking and making fun of his friend as they rested together. Carefully his head moved again to press his lips against the soft spot where Liam’s neck and shoulder met in a gentle kiss.

M’pretty sure I’m real,” he teased, humming low in his throat as he continued his soft caress. He’d had dreams like this in the past — where they’d reunited, embraced one another, only to awaken with a chill and that well-known emptiness inside his chest. Or nightmares where he was met with scorn and needed to remind himself when he woke that Liam had never loathed him in such a way.

Even during his worst moments he had never been hated. Liam had cared for him when Bucky hadn’t even known who he was, when he couldn’t remember anything in the horrendous mess his mind had been. He didn’t think he deserved such forgiveness, but it had been offered nonetheless.

I’m sorry it took me so long to come to you. M’sorry I kept you waiting,” Bucky whispered, “You look — good. Great, actually. Like this place has treated ya well.

Liam seemed healthy and whole. Bucky didn’t know what he had been doing during his time here, if he’d even taken well to this strange new land. This wasn’t the first time they had ventured so far from home, and he somehow doubted that it would be the last but he couldn’t help but hope to find some sense of completion here — to finally be able to settle for more than just a short while. Pulling back carefully, he opened his eyes again so he could catch Liam’s gaze with his own.

They were as stunning as they’d always been. Bright and so full of a life that Bucky had barely even begun to understand.

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Liam - 09-06-2021

BUCKY & LIAM,

That mirth in Bucky's eyes was easily seen, and Liam couldn't help but huff gently in embarrassment. The love that he held for this stallion knew no bounds, but he didn't know how to truly express it. All he could do was to accept Bucky, love him on his bad days and hold him close and remind him that they weren't going anywhere. There had never been a moment where Liam was mad at his best friend, not even when they were young and growing and experiencing hormones that they had never expected. When faced with Bucky after an extended period of time away, never was anger, annoyance, or indifference a thought. Relief, happiness, exuberance were the only emotions and thoughts that he felt at the moment.

The soft sigh of relief had Liam's ears twitching and he nickered tenderly, pressing his slightly smaller frame that much closer to Bucky's. The other stallion was warm, and he smelled of Agnosia, and while Liam appreciated what he had in Novus, he felt a pang in his heart for their homeworld. He missed it -- and Aklos.

The love and desire he felt for Bucky were all consuming, and he felt like his lungs couldn't draw enough air in, and he felt like his heart was going to give out at any moment. "I've missed you so much," he breathed softly, wanting nothing more than to somehow crawl even closer to Bucky, even though he knew it to be impossible. Instead, the soft press of lips against where his neck and shoulder met in a gentle kiss had him trembling throughout his entire body, and he nickered again.

"God, I've missed you," he replied tenderly, leaning into the soft caress as much as he possibly could. Before this, there had been many nightmares of Bucky falling, plummeting to his death that day from the train, of being taken away for good. Every time, Liam awoke screaming, begging and pleading that Bucky come back, his coat and begging drenched in sweat. Each time, he had to go for a long walk in the night air to work out the trauma, to remind himself that, as far as he'd been aware, Bucky was alive and quite well.

Their time together had been dotted with several expanses of time apart. There was nothing more that Liam regretted more than those times, but it wasn't his fault nor was it Bucky's. Even when the grumpy stallion was in his darkest moments, Liam adored him, loved him through it all, forgave him for any and all transgressions. No one was perfect, and Bucky had gone through brainwashing and horrific trauma. He wasn't at fault for anything that had happened.

The apology was heard, and Liam pulled back a little to gaze at the other stallion, shaking his head. "No, please. No apologies are necessary," Liam murmured, a warm blush crawling along his cheeks under his chestnut coat. "This place is great, Buck. I think you'll really enjoy it. At the very least, we'll enjoy each other," he teases gently.

Upon first glance, Bucky looked great. His coat seemed healthy -- or, well, healthier. His mane was still as limp as ever, and Liam huffed softly at the sight of it. Never one to judge, he used his teeth and tugged gently at a few strands of it, nuzzling the warm coat just under the locks of hair. Their reunion had been a long time coming, and while this wasn't the first time they'd been so far from home, Liam hoped it would be the last one. He could see them growing old here, experiencing all that Novus had to offer.

Their gazes locked, and Liam felt like his knees had turned to jelly, his heart rate picked up in his chest, and he nickered deeply, the sound rich and warm. "See somethin' ya like?"

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Buchanan - 09-26-2021

CAN YOU KEEP ME CLOSE,

Places were just places, and Bucky knew — he knew — that wherever Liam was would be home. He might have missed their small cabin, or the warmer climate of Irialin, but he would have traded it all a thousand times over to be here with Liam like this. Too much had happened in their lives for him to fret over something like where they ended up settling down. Not that he really had any idea of where exactly this was. Bucky had been far too busy simply locating Liam, that he’d neglected really finding out much of anything about this place they were in now.

Nor did he know what Liam was up to these days.

I missed you too,” he whispered back, smiling softly as he savoured everything about their reunion. Being able to touch Liam again, to breathe him in — it felt like a dream come true. He wondered how he had been able to stay away for as long as he had. Everything in him craved Liam with a ferocity that he should have found startling. Instead he only found that it fit. Their lives had always been filled with such extremes, that finally having something like this for themselves felt right.

He was reminded again though about his interest in where exactly this was. Thankfully Liam seemed to have some idea of where they were, or what to expect of all of this. A soft noise of complaint escaped Bucky at the tug to his hair, but the smile on his lips never faltered. As they pulled away Bucky had a look of amusement crossing his expression at the question. “M’not good at those little pictures that you used to draw — gotta stare if I wanna commit something to memory,” he teased, “Anyone ever tell ya how stunning you are?

Bucky thought he used to tell Liam what a catch he was. Some distant part of him could remember grinning about it, trying his hardest to convince Liam that one day someone would come sweep him off his feet. Bucky wouldn’t have admitted that he had wanted to be that someone back then, but he hadn’t been wrong. Even when Liam had been all tiny and frail, there had always been something so breathtakingly beautiful about him. Bucky was thankful he could remember that much at least.

Where exactly is this place, Liam?” He finally questioned, his voice dropping low with a thoughtful furrow to his brow. It was a long way off from Aklos and Agnosia, that much he knew for certain. He remained close to Liam but his attention drifted around them, eyeing the fields. Bucky knew it wasn’t like him not to get a good feel for a place first before throwing himself headfirst into it — but the thought of being reunited with the other stallion had been enough to drive him from habit. “M’safe to assume you know it all well enough by now? They got you workin’ their military?

Again, he nearly said. The life of a soldier seemed all they were destined for, and Bucky couldn’t hide the soft bitterness to his voice at the idea of it.

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Liam - 09-29-2021

BUCKY & LIAM,

While there was a part of him that missed their small cabin and the warmer climate of Irialin, the coppery stallion knew that he wouldn't trade a single day spent with Bucky for anything in the world. Places were just that -- places. Their real home was located in each other's hearts, where they remained happily, forever, always. There had been so much that had happened in their lives. Bucky had been drafted into the military, he'd gotten captured and experimented on, while Liam willingly entered into a genetic experimentation program that changed him into the stallion he was today. He joined the military afterwards, rescued Bucky, and everything seemed okay for a bit before Bucky fell from a train and they were separated for some time.

Bucky didn't recognize him when they reunited. It'd been heartbreaking, but eventually, Liam broke through that brainwashing by uttering a single phrase that would sound simple when heard by an outsider. However, the phrase was uttered between the pair in the darkest and most crucial of moments in their friendship, and because of it, Bucky had been rescued from his brainwashing. Once that had happened, he'd disappeared for another two years, leaving Liam reeling after he'd recovered from injuries sustained in their skirmish. Bucky had been in his reach, but had slipped through just like sand did at the beach.

But now, Bucky was back for good, and Liam couldn't begin to utter his thanks to whatever gods were above. Vespera?

Bucky whispered that he missed Liam, and the copper-burnished stallion's heart quivered in his chest. "Bucky..." he breathed, his breath catching in his throat. Never before had he imagined having this in his life. They'd been close for as long as they could remember, but they had never actually gotten this far. Whenever Bucky was around, Liam found himself unable to breathe, engulfed in the tidal wave of feelings that he found that he had for the other stallion. It was with a startling revelation that he realized he'd always felt this way. It was sobering and exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time. Everything in him desired Bucky and ached to be near him at all times, and he felt like his world had no sun unless he was around the other stallion.

A soft noise of complaint escaped Bucky at the tug to his mane, and Liam nearly giggled like a foal. But he held together his composure and beams at Bucky as they pulled away. The other stallion had a look of amusement on his face, and Liam blushed gently, his entire body warming at the flirtation from-- his boyfriend? What was their relationship status these days? They were something before everything happened with Bucky; were they still together? It was time to find out, wasn't it? It was then that Bucky hit him with an even better flirtation, and Liam felt his jaw drop in surprise. "...Bucky!" He exclaimed, eyes wide before he pressed himself against the other stallion, needing and aching to be as close as he possibly could be. "Ya used to tell me that all the time, but I never believed ya because-- well--" He trailed off, not wanting to visit those days again.

Growing up, Liam had always been the smallest, weakest, frailest of their friend group, and he'd always been the last to get chosen whenever they were playing any sort of game that required teams. Even still, Bucky always used to tell him that he was a catch, that there would no doubt be someone who would come sweep him off his feet. Little did Liam know, Bucky wanted to be that someone.

Bucky's question drew him out of his reverie, and he cleared his throat, glancing around. "We're in Novus. We're in the Dusk Court, and this is Susurro Fields. It's a lot different than Caeleste, and even more different than Aklos and Agnosia. But it welcomed me with open arms, and I-- I don't know. I guess I could see us startin' a life here?" He inquired gently, turning his attention back to Bucky as he maneuvered himself so that they could easily look at each other again. Huffing softly at the next series of questions, he shook his head and inhaled deeply. "Surprisingly, I'm still learnin' about the citizens and everythin' havin' to do with this place. I-- may have been a hermit for over a year," he sheepishly admitted, nervous about answering the next question. "As for workin' in their military, yeah I was at one point, but now, I--" He hesitates for a moment, letting his eyes slide shut as he inhales deeply.

Opening his eyes, he gazed at Bucky and offered a timid smile. "There was a Sovereign -- it's their version of a ruler -- named Rhone. Unfortunately, he let Dusk Court go and basically disappeared. No one had seen him in weeks. I-- I challenged for the throne and I-- I'm the Sovereign now," he breathed, breath and voice tinged with nervousness, a sort that he hadn't felt in quite some time, not since he was a young foal faced with the most beautiful colt he'd ever seen, the very same colt that grew to be the stallion in front of him.

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Buchanan - 12-20-2021

CAN YOU KEEP ME CLOSE,

Of course Liam had never believed him — scrawny thing that he’d been, Bucky knew the looks and avoidance he had been given during their younger years. Foals could be cruel in their taunting, and the youth of their childhood had been no different. Bucky could very easily remember all the times he had shut down the harsh, horrible words. He could also remember the thick skin needed to face that every day, and had not-so quietly admired Liam for it.

If he could bolster his friend, he had thought, then he would. Bucky had been boyishly charming in his own youth — certainly not the mess he was today. He’d never faced the harsh judgments that Liam had, but he had been undeniably drawn to his friend. The sharp wit, the heart of gold, and the moral compass that always seemed to point true — Bucky had known that there was something special about Liam, that he would go far one day. All he had ever wanted was to be able to see it, and to stand by Liam’s side as he finally realised his worth.

I know why ya never believed me,” he huffed gently, but there was no heat behind his words. Even with his fractured memory, Bucky remembered more about Liam than anyone else. He understood those difficulties faced in their childhood, and he couldn’t fault the other stallion for not having believed him back then. “Do you believe me now?

He was curious. His head was raised a bit, a brow arched in question, but the expression on his face remained soft and playful. If Bucky had to, he would remind Liam of just how stunning he was over and over again.

His attention turned outwards as well as he listened to what the place was. Novus. Dusk Court. It all sounded different from those places. Within Aklos he was just another faceless citizen in the crowd. Perhaps here he could just fade into the background again as well. Hearing that Liam thought that they could have a life here caught his attention and warmed him pleasantly with the thought. Perhaps they could. Perhaps this would be the place they finally called home for some time. Bucky knew they had become something of drifters throughout the years. Returning to Agnosia wasn’t quite possible — there was too much fresh hurt there, and he knew they wouldn’t be accepted. That little cabin in Aklos would always be there for them should they need it.

Bucky wasn’t surprised that Liam had worked in the military either. Being a soldier was practically in their blood now. That moment of hesitation, however, wasn’t missed. As soon as a mention of the former ruler was brought up, Bucky could feel every expectation he had plummet. He should have expected what Liam was about to say, but he couldn’t help the soft click of his tongue when the other stallion finally dropped the news. Sovereign. A leader, yet again.

This wasn’t going to allow for the peaceful, cushy life that Bucky had been hoping for just moments ago. Instead he could already picture the politics, the requirements — the _dangers_. He didn’t reply right away as he flicked his gaze away from Liam to eye the fields surrounding them once more.

I wish I could say m’surprised,” he muttered finally, inhaling deeply. In Agnosia Liam had been a leader — perhaps not for an entire court of people, but enough. Within Caeleste he had been a ruler as well. Aklos might have offered a small respite, but it wasn’t long before Liam was off again — and once more landing himself into a position of leadership. Sighing softly, he reached back out again to offer a reassuring touch to Liam. “If this is what you are wantin’, then you have my support. This fancy title of yours — does it come with any perks? Like hot water? ‘Cause I miss bathing in water I didn’t have to boil myself.

Bucky needed to tease. He couldn’t be right at Liam’s side for this — he was no leader himself, and he knew he played his role better from the shadows. He would be that shadow, that listening ear, and the silent pillar of support.

RE: It's Been a Long, Long Time - Liam - 12-30-2021

BUCKY & LIAM,

Growing up, everyone thought he never saw the dirty looks, the sheer avoidance, the pure disgust in their eyes when they did look at him. Liam saw everything. He was incredibly perceptive, which meant that he saw things that others didn't. Of course, he couldn't tell Bucky; the darker stallion was the best out of the two of them when it came to flirting or trying to hop into a relationship with someone. Liam, on the other hand, was cast aside by anyone he tried to flirt with, tried to date. It was one reason he had thicker skin, and the number one reason why he made sure to be accepting of everyone he encountered, even if his first reaction was something completely different.

The complete opposite of Bucky, Liam had been small, a gangly-looking colt. His bones jutted out at awkward angles, he limped when he walked, and he wheezed when he breathed. To counteract all that he went through, he had a heart of gold, a quick and sharp wit, and an even sharper moral compass that never seemed to fail him. Since his mom had passed away, he'd remained true to his word, the promise that he made to her that he'd never let anything or anyone affect him, that he would remain strong even when he wasn't. It was hard most days, especially days that he found himself missing her the most, but he did it.

"Do you?" Liam huffed softly, his voice gentle and tender, almost as if he were afraid to hurt Bucky. Deep down, though, the copper-burnished stallion knew that Bucky knew, even despite his gruff exterior. Nickering softly, Liam pressed his forehead to the dark stallion's neck, breathing in his soft, comforting scent, the scent that was pure Bucky through and through. "I believe you now," he breathed, his voice catching as the wind carried it away.

The tiny chestnut orphan had grown up loved, cherished, and adored and it was all because of Bucky. The dark stallion made sure that every need, want, and desire had been taken care of, and Liam could never thank him enough.

Explaining what this place was took a bit of time, but only because there was so much beauty to explain. Deep down, Liam was nervous to tell Bucky anything. He wasn't sure what they were in terms of their relationship, but the copper-coated stallion certainly did not want to lose the best friend he'd ever had. Deep down, there was the fluttering of feelings toward the dark stallion, but Liam was always too afraid to act on them, to try and take that next step. What if Bucky rejected him? What if the other stallion laughed in his face because he thought the idea to be preposterous? It wasn't something that Liam would be able to survive or get over, and so, he just buried the feelings, buried his heart in order to save himself from pure embarrassment. Life in Novus was, hopefully, going to be easier. Agnosia had far too much fresh and painful hurt, but Aklos would always be there, their little cabin warm and ready to welcome them home if they ever needed it.

Being Sovereign here in Novus was both like and unlike being emperor in Caeleste. For one thing, he didn't feel like there was necessarily animosity between the leaders of the Courts in Novus. There was no one conniving in the dark to cause pain here. There was no one who wanted to cause a war between Courts by deceiving or lying. At least, none that Liam witnessed or heard. It was truly a peaceful place, one in which Liam could see them living peacefully together for the rest of their lives.

But it didn't seem like Bucky felt the same way. Not after Liam spoke of being Sovereign. Flattening his ears against his head, the copper-coated stallion inhaled shakily, uncertainty shining in his eyes for longer than he'd care to admit. Pulling his gaze away from Bucky, Liam looked toward the horizon, watching the sea for several long moments.

"I wish I could say m'surprised." He wasn't sure why but those words stung. Everything in the copper-burnished stallion encouraged him to lead, to be the one that others relied on. In Caeleste, he'd become the emperor after only a short time. It took a bit longer here in Novus, but it'd been something that he realized he enjoyed. In Aklos, it'd been a brief reprieve from leading, but then it wasn't but a short time before he was off leading again. Flaring his nostrils, Liam's mouth opened to speak until he heard the other stallions voice speaking again. Cautiously, nervously, Liam looked at Bucky again, an apprehensive expression on his face. "If you're wantin' perks like that, m'sure I can get ya somethin'. Hot water? A more comfortable bed? Is there anythin' else you'd like me to try and get? I can— I can try to get anything for you?" Liam inquired, brow furrowing slightly.

Above all else, Liam knew that Bucky couldn't be at his side again. It was one of the few main reasons he hadn't said anything about leading together again. It had been too much for Bucky, too strenuous for his recovery. "Look, I didn't tell you all this so that you could— so that you would lead alongside me. I don't— as much as I'd like that, it's not what you want. I don't want you to be unhappy here. I love having you around and I don't want to ruin that. I—" Liam paused, his heart racing in his chest. 'I love you,' his traitorous mind supplied. Swallowing thickly, Liam took a shaky breath and just gazed at his best friend. "I just like havin' ya around, is all. Don't want to ruin that by askin' ya to lead with me. Was a lot in Caeleste, and I think it'd be a lot harder here for you," he commented gently, trying hard to make it feel like it wasn't a judgmental comment. Liam was wholly supportive and concerned for Bucky's well-being and recovery.
