Katniss listens quietly to Moira’s answer and she cannot help but hear the same thing as she. It seemed they were both thinking of others before themselves, both wanting to change the world to make it a better place. How would the spirit choice between two voices of good and reason? She hopes it is herself. She has been honest, good, and true. She has done what the spirit has asked and did it with grace.
But when she suddenly appears outside the forest with nothing but the sound of bats and crickets, Katniss cannot help but feel absolutely defeated. What did Moira have that she did not? What made her more good and true than herself? Was it because Katniss was unknown to most of Novus, was it because Moira held a position higher than her own? Or was it because the spirit saw something in Katniss that she did not see.
Her sigh is heavy as she stands there looking back into the darkness of the forest. Self-reflection is what keeps her feet firmly planted. Now she is having self doubts. What did this spirit see in her that she did not like? Her entire life was made to help others, to be bigger than big. Where had she messed up? Where had she faltered?
In the silence of the night, Katniss stands there wondering… “Why am I not good enough?” her voice is soft, her words only for herself. There is a heavy sigh. Perhaps the spirit had wanted her to self reflect, to give her something to work towards in order to make her a better person. She should try to be happy for Moira. She should be happy for Denocte. She should be happy for Kibou. There are so many things she should be thankful for. Perhaps it is time she goes away for a time…to figure out who she really is.
And with one more final sigh, Katniss turns to head towards the hut where Finnick and Kibou are waiting for her.
