Bel was frantic as she watched others move.

Some jumped to the air, some took on ahead. Her gaze cuts briefly to Sol, reassuring, a small smile touching on her muzzle, "Go, you're more useful in the sky right now. I'll be fine. I promise." She assured, motioning him to go into the air where he'd have more room to use his own magic as well. Her gaze cuts back to the massive please in the air, watching, waiting, wondering. It's not long before it suddenly lands on the ground, and her gaze jumps as she dives back, watching as the beast lays into the stallion who called this fight to action.

She doesn't give him much attention.

He has healers on stand by. Good ones. And she's a battle mage, not a medic. Her magic unleashes, this creature close enough now, the three large projectiles of sharp ice being sent forward with a narrowing of her eyes, spinning tightly, with intense pressure building up behind them, quickening their distance. One is aimed to one of the large, extended out wings, the other at another - and the third at the chest. And then the sand is kicked up.

Bel spins, her head dropping.

Two things happen at once, her head turning to protect her eyes better, as both sets of lids - her underwater set, and her land-set close over her eyes in an attempt to keep them from being hit directly. It's moments like this she hates the land, she hates the desert and it's heat. The sand pelts at her skin, irritating with it's dryness, and the vapors trailing of her body seem to dip lower in temperatures, dropping water almost solidly over her form. Her eyes open slowly, once she no longer feels the sand pelting, blinking back any sand that still managed to enter. It's a moment of weakness, of re-orientating herself, an knowing that, the ice has formed up a partial dome again, instinctively aiming to keep herself from a direct attack again, if she could so help it.

As she re-orientates herself, her gaze turns to the injured stallion.

"We need a plan. And quickly. We can't keep doing our own things. We need to figure something out, and quickly!" She called to him, to the others, looking around for anyone who can get an idea, to get a plan in motion, her frilled ears pinned, and briefly her gaze catches Sol's again, her eyes betraying her determination, her hope they'd make it out of this alive, and mostly in one piece, especially with two injured so far.

Notes:: Battle Mage Applications: Sent three large projectiles, sharp and spinning for piercing damage, towards the beast at high pressurized release. One at each wing, and the third at the center of the chest. Small dome of ice raised to give them a bit of space to try and plan something, anything.

This flaming guardian could be your worst nightmare...

Sol dipped his head at Bel, though it was hard to step away from her. To trust that she would be ok. There was a part of him that was regretting signing up for this, but at the same time… He would have been there no matter what because of the mare that held his heart.

By the time the teryr had hit the ground, Sol was as powered as he could get with his magic. He watched the attack from the aquatic battlemage, eyes tracking the ice. The massive stallion spread his wings and lifted into the sky, working to keep the dragon on the ground. The new sovereign was injured, the stallion not directing the attack that he had called on the beast.

Shaking his head, Sol let himself drift closer to the beast. He was wary, ready to change directions quickly. As he flew, the draft mix tunneled deep into the power that had been charging in his blood. He hadn’t really trained much with the power, a fact that he found that he was angry about. He was going to be so tired when this battle was over.

Lashing out with the fires that swam in his blood, the stallion sent a solar flare straight at the beast’s wings. The heat from the fire crackled against his pelt, the golden armor warming and glinting with the flames. After a few moments, he lashed out with a secondary flare. That was the extent of his magic for the moment, wanting to keep some reserves.

Lifting a bit higher, he tried to stay at a safe distance to watch the aftermath of his attack and what the aquatic mare might do. He was terrified for her, ready to leap between his heart and the beast that could do so much damage to her. He was silent as he watched, though his golden eyes were trying to catch all of the movements of those that were working together.

Notes: Sol released 2 solar flares toward the teryr, now in the air above the beast.

IT MUST BE LONELY
when you're up there looking down

It's a lot at once . " There are no swords and bows , only what we have on us now . Hooves , horns , wings . Teeth . Magic . " His response is startlingly fast for someone that had been rather calm a moment ago , and his heart is beginning to pick up a thundering pace in his chest . Adrenaline is coming to life , and Leviathan feels it singing in his veins , tossing off the cobwebs in his bones and shaking them away as his horned head lifts and he fixes his eye on Cordelia for a moment . " We can do this , go ! " His call is practically a boom in his throat , and his head turns to see Tug following after her .

Two on the move , two in the skies . The one with claws , Pangaea is above , and he hears Israfel as she takes off . She's a living breathing meteor , streaking across the sky on fire with her bonded . That makes two above now , that flank the beast , three if the Phoenix is counted . It's enough to send the Teryr moving from where it had been , staggering it in its direction . Leviathan bares his teeth at the beast and churns his body into motion , heavy legs shifting on red sands as his head lifts . He'll follow where he goes , he doesn't care if he gets hurt . Bullheaded , stupid . But he's hunted its kind before . He knows he has to be there when it lands , to sink his horn into flesh and break its wings as best as he can . Once grounded , it will fight until its dying breath .

He doesn't expect it to land so quickly . The ground shudders underneath of it , his body jarring and ears ringing from the scream , and pain blooms hot and heavy over his spine . White and blinding , he knows that beak has laid him open , the force sending him skittering back , and heat seeps over his sides . His legs buckle , and for a moment , he nearly sinks down before coming back up . The wound on his back lays up his spine , wide and gaping , spilling crimson over his grullo sides , before his head lifts up and he snorts hard .

There are two attacks , from two different equines , and Leviathan's head tosses before he surges forward . He forgoes his own magic in favor of charging the Teryr once more , and swinging his head hard with his horn , aiming for the underbelly of the beast with his horn . Scales , feathers . He can hear the beast screaming and smell charred flesh from the second attack , and smell blood .

Whether it;s his own or the Teryr's remains a mystery.

Levi doesn't have his magic for this thread ( since he didn't have it when it started ) therefore he has to rely on normal attacks for this . He's aiming to gut the Teryr with his horn , the old fashioned way .

Chaos, glorious chaos. Though the landing of the creature was enough to make the mare pause. It was larger than she expected, a creature of size and beauty that made her take in the sleek lines and furious eyes. Then the blood hit the sands and seemed to wake the mare from her trance.

Racing forward without thought, the mare targeted the creature’s flank and wing on it’s right side. She reared, her hard hooves lashing out in a quick barrage of hits to try to do any damage she could. With the stakes of the battle, she was hesitant to try her magic, to risk becoming too fatigued by the energy needed.

Faction leapt back, trying to get out of the way of any counter attack from the creature, though her success was something she was never sure of. Bared teeth snapped in the air as she tried to intimidate the creature… yeah… A horse trying to intimidate a dragon. The idea nearly made her fall on the sand and laugh.

Notes: Faction is avoiding her magic since it is not trained enough to risk it failing. Instead she targeted the creature’s right flank and wing with her hooves.

P a n g a e a

it’s only natural to free the animal locked up inside
the nature of the beast is, you want it
nature of the beast is, i do too

The shriek she had let loose, somewhere caught between avian and reptilian, was echoed back, lungs enflating before releasing the cry. For a moment, the world seemed to wash away from Pangaea, and she wasn't in the desert anymore. She could feel the heat of humidity upon her pebbled skin, seeking her hair into a frizzier mess. She could feel the palms of the ferns of the creatceous stretching out, offering some shade, and calls, so similar; echoing in her ears, a predator's cry that Pangaea knew could spell disaster if she wasn't careful.

But Pan was a predator too, and from one predator, to another; she wouldn't insult it by making a defeat easy for it. So she instead goes for the film of it's wings, an encouragement to get it to the ground. The second scream was louder, more jarring to her skull, and she saw the head swing towards her, the beak that was headed for her. Pangaea's eyes went wide, veering her course, but you can't escape something that big. The teeth connect, puncturing past skin, into muscle. Pangaea's scream was a mixture of pain, of rage, as the blood fell from the injuries, and she plummeted a few feet before her own wings swept out catch her. She forced herself up, higher, taller, even as it was herded towards the ground.

Her hind limbs where drawn closer, and she chanced a few moments to check over the wounds. A clean bite was her luck, so long as it's fang would not hold toxins. But while the damage was mostly limited to the upper portion of her lower left leg, the right had the muscle of her ankle join bent through, and she knew that wouldn't be something she'd be able to put pressure on easily. But it would be healable. Eventually. It wouldn't kill her. Which meant . . . . - Her gaze turned towards the now downed monster, her muzzle twitching into her own fanged snarl. It meant she had justice to be delivered.

The wall of sand this creature sends out meant nothing to her, but the focus on the others did. So she rounded towards the others in the sky, particular the flaming maiden, her gaze on her briefly, "How far can you get that fire out?" She asked briefly, her voice rough, gruff, gritting past the pain as she kept her right leg curled the most, knowing further damage to a joint could cost her a lot of her freedom. The pain of her left leg was just as severe, but a few stretches of that proved nothing damaging to the bone, "If you can keep it's attention off of me." Pangaea's muzzle split open, the fangs glistening in the sunlight, "It owes me a pound of flesh, and I intend to take it."

Her gaze moved to where the others where sending magic, attacks towards the wings, and her gaze was on the face however. Her claws where almost useless from the pain, but the 'fingered' hooks of her wings pinched, "If you can keep it from noticing me, I can try to land just behind it's skull, and we'll see if I can't blind it. Eye for a limb - sounds like a fair trade, no?" She glanced to Isra, hopeful the mare would agree, but even if she didn't Pangaea would try regardless. Something had to be done to give them a bit of an advantage. And when the beasts were too big to take on alone - you find a weakness. If you can't find or get to the weakness - you make your own.

Pangaea's wings swooped out, before she allowed herself to be moved downwards into a glide, careful to not flap once, to keep her approach as silent as possible, a bird of prey biding time and sacrificing speed and power for stealth. She had her goal, to let it be focused on the others, to come from directly behind, where it would hopefully have a blind spot, especially if she came at in on a gradual curve rather than a steep angle. And if she managed that, she'd grasp onto that neck, using her injured legs, the claws granted to her to pierce skin and hold her steady, so her own great wings could descend down, and the thumb, and massive claw there could be wrapped around it's head and through it's eyes. Even one eye would be great. But Pangaea wasn't hoping for much, it had already seen through her once. But she believed in eat or be eaten, fight or die; and she wasn't going to limp away afraid now.

She was gonna fight, even if it brought her down; and while her anger was overruling the pain for a while longer; she might as well do all she could, before the adrenaline wear off; and she'd literally be able to do no more.

let’s unleash and cut the creature loose

Notes: Pangaea is favoring her right ankle SIGNIFICANTLY to avoid further damage, but is intending to use blind spots and angles, and a glide that will reduce wind shear, wake and the notable flapping sound; to stealthily approach the Teryr from behind, so she can more or less 'clamp down' just behind the skull, and drive the claws of her wings through it's eyes . . . . cause the girl is angry it landed a hit >.> She is running MOSTLY on adrenaline right now to combat through her own pain, adrenaline, past experiences with significant bites; and compartmentalizing to fight through it enough to at least even the fight. She fully expects to be brought down and out of the count in the next post, though haha. But she'd like to at least even the score, and give the others a weakness they can exploit; before that happens.

oh, it’s the nature of the beast in you
you wrap yourself around me and tightening the noose
trapped in the cage surrounding the sinful side of you

Cordelia

you are a vast forest
full of beautiful and vibrant stories

T
here was chaos, sand, and a terrible trembling of the earth. Cordelia almost feels time slow down as she watches the creature crash into Leviathan. She is less than pleased with both the lack of preparedness of the group, but even more so that the new King has gone and gotten himself turned into a landing pad for the predator. The adventurer hardly pays any mind to the magic swirling, nor the sounds of beating wings as she charges in. Her gaze is set on any open spot she might grab. Her tiny bodice rushes out away from the gathering group who does not seem to think to pry the beast from Leviathan. "Pull that thing off of him! Keep it on the ground!" She shouts to the crowd and those with wings who descend from the sky. It is a command, although she has no authority here. Cordelia is worried for her new friend, she is worried for them all.

Many others are targeting the vital spots that are likely to kill the large creature, but she sees an opportunity to seriously wound the creature. If she succeeds she suspects that the creature will be forced to be grounded, then it would be at their absolute mercy. It would find no mercy here. Cordelia races across the sands, her tiny bodice hauling quickly through the sediment and churning up dust. She does not stop until she is within range to snap her jaws toward the wings of the creature as she has the opportunity to do so. A cry roars from her lips "Pry its wings off!"

@Leviathan @Pangaea @Faction @Tug @Israfel @Below Zero @Sol Bestiam
Summary: Cordelia charges back toward the group that is attacking the Teryr and she is going to try and pull its wing away from its body

A set of eyes had pinned him
Became his version of a kingdom
She's everything the devil can't be
When she's singing to me "Glory"

All hell broke loose and Israfel was both thrilled and terrified.

It seemed that her first attack did nothing; the flames not even hitting their mark as the Teryr twisted within the air with a mighty, blood chilling scream, diving down towards the earth and those who were unfortunate enough to be land-bound. She didn’t envy them. What unlucky fuckers, yet she wasn’t about to let them all die, even if she didn’t give a rats ass about some of them.

Fury rose within her breast, hot, scalding, righteous, and the Sun Daughter shifted, shoulders tensing, the large plumes of her wings lifting to buffet the air and stop her where she flew. She turned, back arching, gritting her teeth as vermilion eyes burned blood-red in the biting sunlight.

“Stay out of range!” She screamed to Solaris, and the Phoenix gave a return scream of acknowledgement. It was an order that Solaris had no intentions of keeping, not if it would help in the fray.

With a heaving breath, her wings swept through the air, propelling the Sun Daughter forward in a graceful, strong, powerful movement. Faster, faster, faster, she called her flames to life once more, streaking through the air like a flaming comet towards the large, looming figure of the Teryr as it writhed upon the ground, practically squishing Leviathan as it landed.

Were it a different time, Israfel would have laughed.

Levia-cake? Pancake-thian? The thought was hilarious and deserved a good laugh, but now was not the time.

Maybe afterwards, if they all survived. Hell, even if they didn’t, she hoped someone would laugh about it.

Brows furrowing, the Queen of Denocte gnashed her teeth, wind whistling in her pinned ears as she aimed to collide shoulder-first like a scorching meteor into the wing joint of the Teryr, hoping to assist the pale, little lady in crippling it.

Solaris, remaining airborne and out of range, soared gracefully closer and ignited with her own flames, dashing towards the Teryr’s thrashing face in an attempt to claw, scratch, or burn its eyes.

’Kill it!’ Solaris screamed within her mind, and Israfel laughed, just as she made to collide, wings tucking close to her sides as she dove like a lethal, flaming arrow of ivory and gold.

Summary: Israfel resists having a good laugh at the idea of ‘pancake ponies’, and falls into a dive, summoning her magic and aims to collide body and fire first into the wing joint of the Teryr, hoping to cripple it. Solaris uses her own fire, beak, and claws to attempt to scratch/burn the Teryr’s eyes, hoping to blind it, or catch its attention.

the first attack

Anger flares in the beast as the equines begin to crowd around it now. The ground is unsafe, but so is the air, it’s made note of that. The cover of sand is meant to disorient the ones on the ground, to make them back off, but instead, it only serves to make them that much more persistent. The Teryr rises up, wings spreading as it prepares to send up more crimson sand, an intent to blind them all and kick up a bloody storm, before there’s a sound in the air.

It’s like a faint whistling, and in the heat of the day, the beast turns its head, shrieking and snapping its wings forward. As it does, the projectiles of ice make contact, the impacts lessened by the way it uses its wings to break the momentum, blocking the third from its chest. The ice stings, and blood trickles from punctures against scaled and feathered wings as its head rises up, only to peer down at the sudden dome of ice. Another roar, this time near deafening as it plunges forward, a beak longer than most were tall, shattering the thick ice in one sharp blow. It aims for the fishlike one, missing by a faint hair, and snapping jaws close to her body as it does.

It doesn’t have the time to recover, to lift its head properly, before heat hits it. Feathers char, a stink rising up into the air, and another roar leaves its lungs as it turns on the winged one suddenly that’s within range. Foolish. He’s shiny with armor, but it won’t stop the Teryr from snapping jaws forward and clamping them onto a wing, sharp teeth puncturing deep and crunching down as hard as it can. It would continue, if not for the sudden gutting pain in its belly that forces it to let go with a bellowing wail of agony.

Blood spills heavy and thick from the wide wound in its stomach, and the beast turns with a sharp twist. Wings flare, beating at the beast that now carries blood on his horn, slamming the heavy leather of wings against sides to beat bruises into his ribs and send him sprawling, a hit hard enough to stagger him back several steps.

There’s too much happening, it needs to take flight. The panic is beginning to take over the predatory instincts, it has to flee before it loses this battle. Massive wings snap open, a snarl and missed snap of a jaw at a small mare attempting to harm the vulnerable leather, before it lifts its head. There’s movement in the air, enough that it swings and snaps again at the sharp toothed one, bellowing loud enough to rattle the canyon walls. It misses, becoming more and more frustrated that it’s losing focus, unable to strike properly.

Another attempt to flee, a spread of wings, before a shriek bellows from its lungs when something breaks and snaps from the smallest source. A tiny mare, one it did not see, attacking a wing. The delicate bones give and snap on the end, bending at an awkward angle, and it snaps the injured wing outward. A sweep of a massive wingspan slams into the mare to send her sprawling, to bruise her lungs and body, to send her sprawling even more than the large grey beast.

The beast pants, growing more and more agitated. If it cannot fly, it will try to kill them all here on the ground before they can kill it. It will not be taken down or taken lightly any longer, and another lungful of air is released in a scream, one that cuts short when a flaming mass slams into an already injured wing. Israfel hits, and the fracture Cordelia started only shatters, and the scream releases loud.

Fury bubbles in the beast, and even the hit from Solaris does not deter it as it opens a mighty toothed beak and brings it down onto Israfel's wing. It clamps down and twists its head, jerking and slamming around as its entire body moves. Dust and grit are once more kicked up, the functioning wing snapping away from its body, a razor sharp claw on the end ready to swipe at anyone as it tries to nearly dislocate the pale mare's wing. It's only stopped when the pain is too much from the flames licking at the inside of its mouth, releasing jaws and snapping again when she's free, aiming for her head and missing.

Anger churns and another eardrum shattering shriek is given, the beast seeing red as it grows angrier. Adrenaline fuels the beast, and it only seems to be getting more and more terrifyingly violent and damaging the more it is struck and attacked. It's kill or be killed, and it will not go down so easily.

@Leviathan @Below Zero @Pangaea @Israfel @Sol Bestiam @Faction @Tug @Cordelia

@Sol Bestiam took 10 damage out of their 55 total health from a hit !

@Leviathan took another 4 damage, taking him down to 28 health !

@Cordelia took 4 damage out of her 19 health !

@Israfel took a critical hit of 12 damage out of 92 health. Because it's a critical, it hurts bad, do what you will with this!

The Teryr has taken some damage, but it still looks strong, keep going! It’s now grounded, with one wing fractured deeply!

The Teryr is getting angry and with its health dipping, will now be doing more damage next round in its frenzy to stay alive and take out its prey. Be careful!

@Tug was skipped this round due to missing deadline and not updating oocly! But can be posted next round!

There is no deadline, there is no posting order ! This will make it easier on everyone !

like fuck it, i don't wanna come down
i wanna get fucked up right about now
gonna tear shit up, i don't wanna fight it
who the fuck here wants to start a riot?
The beast was getting angry.

Bel could feel the tension rising, as the beast attempted to figure out a plan, a means to get the upper hand, to win the battle. She was refusing to buckle down then, and as the Teryr raises up, she’s already trying to figure out her next move, even as she watches for the first attack to land. The impact is lessened, more absorbed, and the one for his chest is avoided completely. Her eyes went wide, watching the slight leaking of blood. It’s instinct that keeps her in place, and she’s glad she does when he just barely misses in hitting her. Only when the creature missed did she jump away, her gaze jumping up at the heat.

Her smile is triumph it as she smiled at the solar stallion.

But that triumph shifts, it falters. The smile fades into horror as that head swings around, as those golden feathers get swallowed up by monstrous teeth. Her breath leaves her in horror. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. The word is repeating through her head, even as the mouth retracts, a crushed wing. But she doesn’t see the Teryr anymore. She doesn’t see the others. She sees her future falling. Falling to the ground, tumbling. "SOL!” Her shout is desperate, afraid, and her magic responds, the air below him condensing, partially freezing until a thick layer of snow is there to aid in his fall.

She can’t move though, watching only in fear.

Her mind plays memories on repeat. The feel of his touch on her skin. His muzzle kissing her shoulder so tenderly. The warmth that would radiate from him when they stand close by. His tender smile. The promise he’d leave Dawn for her if only she asks. The way his muzzle so softly curves around those treasured three words. Her future was plummeting to the ground.

The Teryr just tried to steal her future from her.

She spins, and as she does, there is a change in her. It starts at the tip of her tail, as the markings that normally didn’t glow except in darkness seemed to charge up, the stripes taking on an impossibly cyan glow as she snarled angry. Frost crept up her legs, up her tail, crossing like lattice work across her skin. It didn’t stop like normal, continuing along her spine, over her sides, up her neck. Her eyes took on that same glow, both sets seeming to stare down this beast, and her words left her in an angry snarl, ringing loud and clear.

"DON’T YOU FUCKING TOUCH MY MATE AGAIN!

Her breath was leaving her in gasps, the anger rushing through her vines like cold water, giving that anger more power, more control over her reactions, her intentions. Her teeth grit, and as she does, that glow grows brighter, The air is plummeting in temperatures quickly, the frost coating her body now turning to ice, as the vapors that trail off her spine have frozen into snow flakes that fly around her. That same ice is spreading around her hooves, extending out around her, a creeping arctic wasteland that her hooves instinctively grip into, the clawed hook of the cloven hooves easily catching the ice.

She won’t forgive it, she won’t.

The burst of energy from her chest was fueled by her anger, plummeting the temperatures to impossible levels as it raced through the air towards the mare, an uncontrolled wave of raw, powerful magic that was zapping up Bel’s energy even without her notice. It was freezing the very air it passed through, an instant flash freeze. Her magic still swirled, chaotic, uncontrollable; her emotions leaving her in a blind haze, her thoughts a mixture of the need to get even, and the need to defend.

To protect Sol, until he could protect himself once more.

Ice crept up, jutting like sharp daggers from the frozen desert floor, an arctic glacier shelf seeming to build up around her, as the very air seemed to whip up in an angry frenzy at the sudden change in temperature. She takes a shaky step forward, snarl in place, ignoring the way her bones feel like jelly. The way her body aches with that taxing magic she was working. She ignores it all in the need to defend what was hers. To defend what this creature tried to take away from her. The coldness travels with her, shaky steps growing more shaky, even as the ice retreats, not following as far, not growing as high, quickly becoming weaker, lesser, until just the ice shelf remained, nothing new sprouting forth. She almost collapses next to him, but catches herself, the glow never leaving her form, hunching low, protectively in front of the downed stallion until he could collect himself to stand. Refusing to buckle against the magical exhaustion weighing down her body like weights tied to her ankles in a pool.

He needed her now, more than ever.

And damn it, she wasn’t going anywhere.

Not now that she finally realized just what her heart sang.

Notes:: Battle Mage Applications: Bel has lost control in an emotional outburst of an extremely powerful, but taxing flash freeze towards the Teryr. The rest of her magic has turned the desert area they are in to something more akin to an arctic ice shelf, and she’s now at zero energy. She’ll be super apologetic later providing that Sol doesn’t haul her up the mountain as soon as he can walk.

This flaming guardian could be your worst nightmare...

The smell of burning feathers was a moment of triumph, a moment of celebration. Until things went south. Sol’s heart was in his throat as the teryr struck at Bel. The near miss was almost enough to make the stallion fly south, though a part of him screamed to let her fight her own battles. He wasn’t going to make that mistake again. Particularly not in front of anyone.

Then the teryr turned. Angry eyes flashed as its head turned and struck at him. The moment seemed to slow, Sol watching the creature as it caught one of his wings in it’s beak. That was when the world went white with pain. It was electric, hotter than the sun itself. The world around him disappeared, his entire body revolting at the pain of the attack, at the wing that was now broken. Blood was flowing, though he was not as aware of that point.

Shock stills his remaining wings, the feathers crumpling as he began to fall. As the air passed his frame, the stallion’s awareness was jolted. He was getting cold, a sensation that was foreign to the massive stallion. Focusing on his wings, he began to try to slow his descent. The pain that ripped through his wing was a pause to his work. Then he connected with the snow that cushioned his fall. Rather than sand, the snow softened the blow and helped him to wake from the shock induced stupor.

His eyes open, golden orbs seeking the mare that was his entire heart. Fear for what he might have missed pushed him to his hooves. And that is where he stopped. She was glowing. In the bright daylight. Her body was cloaked in ice, the magic that seemed to be so connected to her emotions. She had been frosty when they had their moment of rage not long before. Then the words echoes through him. Mate? Had she just said the words that he thought? Before he could continue the thoughts, her magic exploded.

Exploded was probably the best word for what he witnessed. The mare was pure ice as she released the magic that she held in her heart. The world around him was cold, the flames at his hooves sizzling and steaming in reaction. That was when the cold got worse. Sol was not one for cold weather. Since his magic had developed, the stallion didn’t get cold. His temperature ran higher, most likely thanks to the radiation from the sun. But this was different. The cold was a punch to the gut, a crushing fist around the stallion’s lungs. There was an edge to the ice, a pain that was so radically different from the fiery pain of the teryr’s bite. His heated body was unsure of how to handle it, cringing away without thought.

Sol wouldn’t blame Bel, not after what had just happened. But it was striking to see the range of magic. His hooves were cold. Glancing down, he saw that the cold had driven the very flames from his golden feet. It was an odd moment as he tried to understand the difference. It had been years since he had not seen the flames. Then he noticed that his legs themselves seemed to be heavier and colder. They hurt, though not as bad as the wing that was still aflame. Glancing at Bel again, he flicked an ear at her raging magic. He wanted to go to her, to make sure she was alright… but now was not the time.

Focusing on the battle again, Sol carefully tucked his wings. The injured one refused to tuck like the rest, dragging slightly. Stepping forward, he let his body absorb all the radiation he could hold. It had been a few moments since he last released his magic, not enough time to lash out like he wanted. Instead, he funneled all of the radiation into one flare. One solar flare that was as strong as he possibly could make it. Once this battle was over, he was probably going to be comatose for a while. Oriens knew that he hadn’t been training his magic as he should.

Sol released his magic, aiming the flare for the teryr’s whole wing and eyes. It was all that the stallion had left, the magic that he was getting used to using disappearing from his body. All of the glow that he had been emitting was gone, his body normal and simple. After the flare was unleashed, he found himself moving closer to Bel, wishing they were able to have a moment of privacy to discuss the words she had screamed.

Notes: Sol released one final solar flare with all the power he could muster, currently on the ground near Bel.
