Your fate is catching up to you

This post is set at the Vitreus Lake in the PAST

Summer, the season that spoke to the fae mare the strongest. It had been a warm, beautiful day. A day that the little mare enjoyed at the side of Vitreus lake, basking in the warm sun and the cool water. There was a part of the little mare that was finding peace in the beauty of her new court, of the court she had chosen rather than the one she had been born into.

Thoughts of her past swirled in the mare’s mind, though not the bad. It seemed that the mare was to be graced with the good, happy memories. Memories of her brother and cousin, of the fun they had and the trouble they got into. Happy memories of her parents. Memories before the heartache that had come as time had passed and the princess had grown into a queen.

At the bank of the lake, Caelum gazed at her reflection for a moment. The mare she saw was not the same as the filly from her youth, though there was still that beauty and happiness locked within her heart. The memories were kind, a balm for her ravaged heart. As the sun set, the fae mare found herself loath to leave the peace that she had found.

She started a fire to provide light as the warm night cooled around her. Warm tea and a few dainty pastries served as a light dinner and she soon found herself dozing. Words from her past, murmured words of love. The sounds of happiness swirled in her heart. As she let the love into her heart, she felt her frame warm. What seemed to be a warm, golden sun within her started to let the little mare glow. She woke, feeling like the sun had rose once again and found that she had become her own sun.

Magic swirled around the summer fae, the taste of it like an elixir upon her tongue. As it settles upon her frame, she felt the small zings like they were tiny pulses of fireflies. Of course, the fae would recognize what had happened to her, the gift that her blood has bestowed upon her.

@Caelum birthright is finally coming to her. A sign of growing into maturity, of coming into what is rightfully the faes. She has no choice to take it, but will she come to accept it?

Caelum
Shatter every window 'til it's all blow away
every brick, every board, every slamming door blown away
'til there's nothing left standing, nothing left of yesterday
The sun was warm; familiar in it's heat.

She pays it little mind - it's another day after all. Another day; another moment of going through the motions, pushing through the pain, trying to be stronger; trying to be better. Trying to be more. Some days are easier, some days are harder - it was the one good thing about summer. It had a way of settling her nerves. And so she was enjoying the day along the beach, trekking its edge, hooves splashing in the shallows. But it was in that moment, staring out the water that the memories would swirl. Immediately she tensed, waiting for the harsh memories that would rock her core and send her to the ground.

It didn't come.

In a rare moment; she allowed herself the ability to calmly relax and enjoy the memories. How they swirled and warmed her through the core. Positive when she was used to the negative. But as the day passed, as the memories settled like balm; she knew it wouldn't last. Not always. The sun began to set; she began to feel like she knew what would come next. And so she meandered away into her home; to the fire for light and heat - for the warm tea and pastries; all of it soothing her, blurring her into the sleep, until the brightness of the sun, the heat of its glow slowly encouraged her to wake.

Her eyes open, turning towards the east.

Except she was met with darkness beyond her home, and her eyes snapped open in a panic, hooves fumbling, scrambling for purchase. She is desperate as she looks around; searching hopelessly for some sort of sense to be made. It was then that she felt the glow from within, shining as the magic swirls around her. It's sours to her taste buds, her stomach dropping - and that momentary warmth has faded as she waits to see what would be the gift magic felt she needed to have. She knew the signs, had been expecting them with dread. The gifts of her birthrights.

The glow settled into her skin, the warmth disappearing.

Relief crushed over her like a fatal blow from above. It was oddly reassuring, for that glow to disappear, for the embrace of the sun, of summer; to not remain. She welcomes the cool of the night, as she moves towards her bedroom, glancing in the mirror on her wall. She looks the same. Same eyes, same height, same soft bouncy ivory locks. All of it was normal . . . which meant what changed wasn't physical either. Neither Physical nor lingering as an external stimulus. . . Which further settled its heart. It meant this was the simplest of her gifts to receive.

The immortality of the fae.

Fitting . . . she was being subject to more than a lifetime of the pain she continued to hold in her heart . . . It was a bitter-sweet moment, without her parents cheering the start of her coming into the majority. No balls to parade the honor of their daughter becoming a proper adult fae. No celebratory hugs, or nuzzles of congratulations. No favorite breakfast in bed, and telling her to have a lie-in and enjoy her newfound immortality. Just her, in a court she did not control; alone in her shop.

She turns from the mirror.

She ignores the start of the gifts of her people.

It's time to start making some fresh pastries for the new shop.

And so she walks away, without acknowledging the gift again.
