Spring nipped at his tender hide, bit the thin skin of his joints as the breeze swept the hair from his eyes. Mottled ears twitched bemusedly as the long, vivid green grass brushed against his hocks and embraced his form as he lay amongst the field. The serenity that the rolling prairie provided eased his worried mind, eased his aching heart and knotted stomach. For a long, quiet moment, baby blue eyes lidded and he surrendered to the darkness that swathed his vision.

The gentle sand-colored healer flitted across his mind, and his heart began to hurt. He had been gone for so long, since the Davke attacked.. Where was he? Did they take him? Was he still alive? He hated the feeling, the concern, that roiled in his nauseous stomach. Spring brought no happy thoughts to his mind. He hated the feeling of the world being alive, yet didn't know why.

Mottled ears slipped back into his messy expanse of hair, slicking down against the crest of his neck. The corners of his lips curled down and his eyes, half-lidded, opened just enough to stare at the grass. Dejectedly, his head lowered and the grass embraced it, too. Why did his body ache? Even the cool expanse of stone he lay against was no relief to his skin, hot to the touch.

There were minutes of silence as he was lost in his world, those broken so abruptly, so suddenly, by the sound of thundering hooves. Ears flicked up curiously, and just as he was lifting his head to peer around and find the source.... when he felt the hard impact of those hooves on the crest of his neck.

They had lept over the rock that he had taken to resting against, and their leap was just low enough for their hooves to hit his neck and whithers. The impact startled the colt, and rolled him abruptly onto his side from the force alone. A startled sound - something so unlike him, was he sure that it came from him? - broke his lips as his hooves flailed to get him back up to his feet again. Shocked and aggravated icy eyes darted toward the unintentional assailant, ears pinned back against a mane that was somehow messier than before.

"Watch where you're going!" he called after the form that continued galloping and bucking on.
