DON'T STOP, DON'T STOP BELIEVING
IN TRUTH, IN GRACE, AND IN GRIEVING

"I was wondering if you would like to take a walk with me"

”Oh. Where?” He replied, his voice higher than expected or intended. He had not expected her to ask such a thing of him, so common and out of place in the span of his daily life. His ears fell back for just a moment, the confusion clear upon his face before he swept it all away under that careful mask that he wore. He felt something stir in his chest, the oddest sensation that he did not have a name for -- but it lingered. With that strange feeling in his chest, he watched her with widened eyes as she danced backwards (there simply was no other way to put her fluid grace into words), beckoning him with her body in a way that he hadn’t known could exist.

He found himself following without sound, drawing his door shut behind him as an afterthought and listening to it lock just behind him and with it, all of the chaos of his regular little world. She was as skilled as a piper, playing a tune meant just for him to follow -- luring him away from all that troubled him. He found himself curious, drawn in by the lightness that she held within -- like a key to the chains weighing him down.

When they had gone a little ways, he stopped in his tracks -- reaching for the golden adornments in his hair that were slowly beginning to set him apart. If they were going somewhere, just the two of them -- he wasn’t sure he wanted to be interrupted with the demands of his reality. Pangs of guilt struck him as he tucked the little ornate pieces away in one of the citadel’s crevices, but he shook them aside. He needed this. He told himself, thinking of Somnus and his words of advice. He needed to step away before the world bore down too hard on him.

”Let’s go.” He said in a whispered rush, his dark locks freed from their usual proper place -- not quite a disguise but very different from his usual look. The smile that broke out onto his features was wilder somehow, as he pressed gently into her shoulder, and took off down the hall at a much more brisk pace. He knew some of the best ways out of the citadel, well away from prying eyes.
