Camus (Cam for short) is a unique sort of individual in the sense that he was created from multiple individuals. Each part of himself came from the life of another. He stands at 15.1hh and build much like a warmblood, though his exact breed cannot be defined. Each patch of color on his body comes from a separate individual and is stitched together much like the pieces of a patchwork quilt. This stitching is very visible but not painful to Cam. Parts of him are black, sorrel, bay, buckskin, appaloosa, and overo among others. If he were to reproduce, his reproductive organs came from an individual who was a buttermilk roan rabicano Overo (Ee/Aa/Cr/Dd/En/Rb/Oo). His eyes are the most beautiful blue, much like the blue of the ocean in the Caribbean. His mane/tail are a combination of colors from all his individual coat colors but most obvious is the sorrel, white, and black strands of hair. He has a set of bat wings and a pair of elk antlers atop his head.

To try and quantify Camus’ personality is like trying to map the universe. There is so much that goes into him that he almost seems fluid and ever changing. Perhaps what stands out the most is that Cam suffers from Dissociative Personality Disorder as well as Schizophrenia. Sometimes, he can have delusional thinking that make him believe things are real when in reality, they don’t exist at all. In Cam’s case, he always has this sense of doom or a feeling that something bad is about to happen if he’s feeling unsure of himself. He suffers from auditory hallucinations that manifest as the owners of his body parts fighting to take control of his individual self. Cam is riddles by different personalities, some taking over his conscious for hours or days at a time. It’s unknown exactly how many different personalities Cam has, but the most common are a child named Tomnas, a sensual female named Trixie, an evil warrior named Crispin, and a dressage champion named Biscuit. There are others, but they don’t always come out in full force. But watch out, they are always so very unpredictable.

Because of his mental health disorders, Cam can be indecisive. He has trouble making decisions because each part of himself wants to weigh in their own opinions. It makes it very difficult for Cam to select even the most basic of choices.

He also has trouble with commitment. Not only does he have trouble with relationships, but also committing to basic things like where he will live, if he will have a job in his court, or if he even has a will to live at all.

But Cam’s personality is not all bad and ugly. He has this childlike innocence about him. He knows so very little about the world because he was sheltered after his creation. And yet, even the most daunting of tasks is met with a persistence to rise up to the occasion.

Cam is often viewed as a friendly sort. He longs for acceptance and he tries to make friends wherever he goes. He can’t always keep those friends when they find out what goes on in his head, but he definitely gets points for trying.

He can also be described as a dreamer. He longs to be accepted on the most basic level. He dreams of a life where he had friends and a purpose. It might be a small dream – like meeting someone new to a larger dream like finding love. He never stops dreaming, no matter how bleak life might be.

Cam is also fearless Perhaps it is Crispin that makes him seem so fearless, but Cam is not afraid to rush into the burning building. Very little scares him and he has yet to tell a single soul what he’s truly fearful of.

Perhaps one of Cam’s greatest strengths is his admiration of puzzles and his ability to psychoanalyze. He loves trying to understand people and things on a much more complicated level than most people. Perhaps it is because he struggles so hard to piece himself together that he has grown accustomed to piecing together others in an effort to find himself.

Camus has a dark history. He comes from a place where there is such medical advancement that anything you can dream is possible. If you were to lose your sight in a pasture accident, you can simply get an eye transplant and your new eye will be 100% functional. If you burn your skin, you can get a skin graft that heals perfectly and seamlessly. But these medical advancements come with a price. These donor organs are not always donated so freely. Prisoners of war, orphans, unruly subjects, and members of cults are the most common donors.

These donors are taken to harvest camps where they are fed lies and led to believe that they have been chosen for one thing or another. But instead, they are fattened up like pigs and then taken to operating rooms. It is there that they are given paralytics and they are conscious while the medical professionals slowly cut their bodies into pieces and prepare their organs for donations. Only when their brain is severed does their life end…for the moment.

Each body part has a story and a memory. Each one can play the piano, has seen the seven wonders of the world, or loved unconditionally. Each one is different and perhaps that idea is what appealed to Camus’ creator. You see, Cam was not born like most. He was not created by an egg and sperm. He was created by a mad scientist who took thousands of donated parts and stitched them together in order to make the perfect specimen. His handiwork created Cam but with it came an unfortunate side effect. Each body part, each cell has a memory and a name. While Cam fights to feel like a whole individual, his body parts each fight to maintain their own independence. There is a war that rages on inside of cam.

Eventually, Cam began to hate his creator. He hated the cruelty of these harvest camps and what they did to the unknowing individuals. He wants to fight for justice, for the rights of each of his parts. And so he fled his creator’s lab – all his parts seemingly working together to carry him here, Novus. Although this is a new and strange place, Cam is still longing for acceptance, still longing to feel whole again when he is so unwholly.
