King "Invictus" of Pulchraterra the rat king; the loathed Lucien turns heads no matter where he goes, though not always for good reason. His appearance is remarkably plain according to his mother. His coat is a very pale grullo, almost silvery in appearance. He is lighter on his barrel and chest with his points being much darker. His eyes are grey, devoid almost entirely of color, save for a glint of silver. His mane is kept trimmed, sitting a bit fluffy in places, and fades from silvery to a slightly more yellow hue. His tail is of average length and is by no means anything to write home about. Despite his ordinary color, Lucien stands with clear noble heritage. He stands squarely with his head up and his neck arched even when relaxing. He moves with purpose, smooth like butter. His expressions are subdued...sometimes. Lucien's expressions are what tend to get him in trouble. It is not uncommon to find him scowling, rolling his eyes, or trying to hide a grimace. |

Our story begins with King Kellin of Pulchraterra. He was beloved and well respected by all who lived in his kingdom. When visiting a neighboring nation he met the beautiful Princess Marjolaine. She was golden of coat and hair with eyes like polished jewels. She was soft spoken and kind and he felt himself drawn to her. And so they married, and alongside him she would reign for a time. She was generally quiet and many did not trust her, but most thought nothing of her. She was easily forgotten aside from her beauty. The day Lucien was born was the happiest moment in Kellin's life. He looked so much like his father and Kellin wanted a strong name for Pulchraterra. Marjolaine chimed in with another suggestion. The citizens did not trust and love her he way they did him, she suggested some traditions from her homeland. And thus Prince Invictus of Pulchraterra was born, officially. His true name was Lucien, thus keeping his personal life and royal duties separate. Much to Marjolaine's dismay, Lucien was ordinary of face. Where she was breathtaking and elegant, Lucien was fumbling and plain. For public appearances she piled on all the fancy silks and swathes of hair she could, thus rendering him unrecognizable by his own people. She would tell him how handsome he was like this while insulting him the moment his disguise came off. Lucien was quite close with his father, often enjoying sparring in the courtyard or a lope through the forest with him. He was Lucien's best friend and his sudden death hit the young prince hard. It was then that Marjolaine showed her true colors. It was rumored that she had orchestrated the king's death herself, but no one could ever prove it. Lucien was scared and overwhelmed when he was crowned king. Marjolaine continued to whisper in his ear that he was better than the commoners. She fired all of the old advisors to Kellin, option to be the only voice in the young king's ear. While he truly loved his kingdom the way his father did, Lucien was terrible at his job. With each and every failure he began to grow angrier and angrier. Why didn't they love him? He hid behind the walls of the castle, thus receiving the title of Rat King. His desperation and fear would be his downfall. One night citizens breached the walls, killing those that occupied the royal estate. It was only because of his real appearance being a stark difference to what the citizens had seen that he escaped with the aid of a single one of his guards. Just before his escape he had seen Marjolaine laughed as someone raised a dagger above their head. |
