It's not typical for Lucinda to be indebted to someone, yet here this man is, battered and broken all for her sake. No one has ever risked their life to do something for her, nor has she ever asked them to. She doesn't like owing people anything because it feels like a weight on her shoulders. Maybe she can simply pay him off and that would settle it once and for all.
She's also never run into such a serious medical situation before. When Thaeron says he can't move his leg, she isn't sure what to do. They are in the middle of a desert with no resources. The only real option they had was to slowly walk back to the Court and look for the healer she knew. The stallion is much larger than her so she'd have no choice but to have Abraxia help, despite the dragon's own wounds.
Lu smiles as he hands his weapon over to her. When she grabs hold of it, for a moment, she can feel the power of wielding such a weapon. What would happen if she left the man here to die and took his weapon with her? Surely it would provide more use than her staff and then her and Abraxia could better defend themselves. Thaeron had served his purpose and she didn't need him anymore.
The thought lingers in her mind as she turns back to her dragon, flipping the weapon around so the sharp blade of the axe is pointing down at the chains. With one swift movement, she swings the blade and it breaks the chain in half. They fall down onto the ground as Abraxia stands tall and is now officially free of her binds. She is still fairly weak, but a lot better without the weight of the metal. Lu sets the weapon down and nuzzles the dragon's neck. At last, her companion is free.
For whatever reason, she decides not to leave the man here and go with her original plan after all. "Yes," she agrees to his suggestion of them leaving. "But that means you'll have to force yourself to get up." Lu moves to one side of Thaeron while Abraxia goes to the other. "Stand up and lean on us. We'll help you walk back to meet with the healer," she says, bracing herself to withstand his weight when he attempts to stand up. "And don't forget your weapon." Lu's left it nearby sticking out of the sand. With her telekinesis, she picks it back up and brings it over to him so he can secure it onto his back.
Slowly, the mare and her dragon help Thaeron up, then head back in the direction of the Court. They move at a snail's pace and will likely not make it to the healer until dusk. Internally, she's regretting not leaving him to die in the sand. Next time, he likely won't be so lucky.
@Thaeron figured we'd close it here! Hopefully that's okay.
Thanks so much for the lovely thread and helping me do Lu's bonded quest <3 We'll have to get them to meet up again so she can see his prosthetic haha"Speaking."
