Once, the Night Court had lived in the shadows, isolated behind their wall and their gate, preventing the outside world from reaching them. But, this also prevented them from reaching the rest of the world. The Raven Gates stood tall and imposing at the base of the Arma Mountains, doors closed for much of Denocte’s history. Until the spring of 501, when they were opened at last.
Denocte’s relationship with the rest of Novus changed, drastically, and suddenly. Opinions would be formed, friendships and enemies undoubtedly would be made. Everything would be changed, forever, by one seemingly simple act.
The Raven Gates were open a year, before the unimaginable happened. They were closed again.
The pass was set ablaze with dragon fire and the court was once more closed off from the outside world. After so many had tasted freedom, after so many had finally had the chance to see what it was like outside those walls, they were shut away once more, with no answers about why or when the gates would open again.
They did, of course.
But they did not only open. A beast tore down the gates and, thus, everything that they stood for. No longer would the people of Denocte fear imprisonment in their own home, at last, and the new Queen, Isra, led them into a time of regrowth and rebuilding. She gave the citizens of the Night Court what they so desperately needed: hope.
From that hope, from the rubble of the Raven Gates, rose something even greater. That something is reclamation. That something, is the Eventide Arch. Built after Queen Antiope took the throne, the arch is a stunning display of craftsmanship standing in the place where the Raven Gates one did.
There are no doors, there is no wall. It can and will never be closed. The structure is intended as a symbol of welcome and acceptance, to show Denocte and Novus that there is no need to hide, no need to fear.
That is Eventide Arch.
