Quote goes here it looks like this
and continues here smaller beneath it
The canyon was much the same as her home in Pantheon had been, the first place she sought solace after leaving her birth village. It was a secluded area, encased in rock walls, and she felt safe there. Even without Vitor at her side there was a peace that emanated from her that she hadn't felt anywhere else in that strange land. Beneath the watch of the sun at midday, she kept herself close to the built up earth at the bottom of the canyon. She was alone, and it was then that she breathed easily.

What she didn't know was that tranquility wouldn't last for long; thoughts of Paris flooded her mind, dragging up memories of better times. His love was the only one she had felt, and to lose it was like losing herself. In a way, she had lost herself; after running from his side another time in Oblivion, she wasn't sure if she made it out whole. Parts of her were left behind with him, and the idea of never seeing him again torn her apart even though she didn't know if she ever could face him after that.

It wouldn't be long, then, until her thoughts and grief would be interrupted and she would have to live with the fact that she could never truly find solitude.

It was a new day in which to search for the relic. For three days now Venari had been attempting this quest put forth by him by a divine wind and he intended to see it out until the bitter end. He guessed that it would take a week or longer to get around the entirety of Novus, but he was picking away at places far faster than he anticipated. Ven was also dealing with things far better then he thought he would too, and wasn't as anxious as usual (with the forest memories shoved firmly to the back of his mind; those no longer existed).

The canyon was a natural wonder and Venari was more focused on the beautiful landscape rather than trying to find a relic of sorts. Shaking his head, he walked on and set himself to begin searching. The last thing he wanted to do was miss something obvious, especially after all this hard work. From the corner of his eye he spotted another figure; a familiar yet odd shape attracted him forwards with a nicker in greeting. Yes. He had met this soul before, but his memory failed him as to where and when on his quest.

Though she had learned of relics scattered across the lands, and knew the importance of them and what they could mean, she hadn't gone out of her way to look for them. Perhaps it was a mistake on her part, for if the tales of the relics were true then there was something grand to be gained from finding them. She didn't know what great deity controlled their world (for there was always one, in every place she had been) so she didn't know who to address the issue of finding said relics were; but the point might have been to obtain them first and let the deity go to her. The concept of different 'Courts' were also foreign to her, and she was unaware that she would have technically been trespassing on another faction's lands.

It seemed, really, that she knew nothing at all.

With the greeting of the antlered boy she had seen at some point before, her body stiffened. Tentacles splayed out around her as he closed the distance, apparently having made his way into the canyon too. She briefly wondered if it might have been his land she inserted herself in, but quickly switched to the question of why he could have found her approachable; their last interaction hadn't gained them much in terms of friendly relationships. Akhlys stared him down with each step he took, swirling orange and yellow eyes asking every inch of him to stop moving. She was harmless, really, in terms of physical contact but she didn't want her fear to overcome and lead her to command him to do something. It was her words she was really concerned about.

"Why are you here?" It was a question that the answer didn't matter much to, instead bleeding into the idea that he was overall unwelcome.

Upon further inspection of this stranger, Venari felt a pang of panic and an instant feeling of regret regarding his actions. He recalled now that she had been among the first he had met in this world and she had not been the most friendly in demeanour. In fact, she had appeared abrasive and dismissive. 'Gone and landed yourself in it now,' he thought to himself with an internal disdain. The teal stallion halted in his tracks, still a few meters away from the vibrant, oddly formed female. Venari tilted his head a little at the lack of a gesture in greeting; perhaps he had severely misjudged this character and in his memory replaced her for another, friendlier soul. He had landed face first in the dirt on this one.

As he twisted and twirled the regret in his mind, the mare spoke out to him in four, hostile words. "Why are you here?" He felt himself shake a little, but nothing too major. He took one small pace forwards before halting square once more, ice blue eyes firmly fixated upon the other (not through fascination, but rather through safety; he felt a violent outburst could be due for his earlier actions). Raising his head slightly and shifting his stance, Venari cleared his throat quietly to speak. "I... uh, I'm looking for something is all," of course he stammers when talking to someone of this nature. Inwardly, he cursed the rising tide of fear and averted his attention for a quick second to check the ground for the relic.

Craning his head back to focus on her again, he passed the question back to her, but with a friendlier tone. "How about you?"

Quote goes here it looks like this
and continues here smaller beneath it
Her magic was one she would have never believed possible to be rid of; cursed, she was forever bound to taint the lives of others with her words. Her sister would be the first, and so far only, casualty thanks to her brashness and inability to detect the effects of her magic in time. She had left Paris only because she could no longer stand to poison him; never would she willingly harm anyone, hating herself because of what she was capable of. But such feelings left her fearing herself, the words that could slip between her lips something she had to pay every ounce of attention to. She would pretend to be cold, indifferent, someone who cared nothing about those around her when in reality company was all that she craved. Yet dealing with such consequences was more bearable to her than speaking at all. If she had known the way Venari thought of her she would have desperately wanted to apologize; she wouldn't, though, because that was the image she needed to maintain of herself.

The question left her mouth to sit in the spaces between them and the boy seemed to have taken the hint. She breathed an invisible sigh of relief when he stopped his movements, looking quite ashamed of himself for bothering to talk to her at all. Her heart tightened slightly. His answer sent her mind wandering again to the time in the field, the first encounter she had experienced of actively looking for whatever a relic might be. She wondered then if he had set out on a search himself, ending up unintentionally there with her.
As the minutes ticked by with her merely gazing at him, her features softened and her tentacles returned to their usual drooped position across her back. She tried to look at the spot he sought out in between his sentences, but his returned attention on her brought her back sharply up. "I suppose... the reason is the same as yours." She was hesitant, but the reply wasn't entirely untruthful.

After returning the question to her, Venari retained the eye contact, not want to be rude and look away as she answered (if she would answer at all). He thought back to the first encounter and mused as to how exactly he had forgotten how... aloof this soul had been. She wasn't menacing, just... cold. Could he blame her though? In his second year of life, all Venari could do was stare at others, muted and repressed through his own crippling fear. While he knew not of her exact situation, he already held a degree of empathy for her. Perhaps during his relic search, Ven would encounter her a few more times and they could become a little more friendly.

Her answer seemed truthful, from the corner of his eye he had also seen her attention divert and look to where his eyes were roughly. So in this case, they shared the same intention. Was the conversation warmer, Ven might ask if she would search alongside him, however he thought better of it this time and held his tongue. He knew what it was like to prefer isolation and thus he would respect the vibe he gained from both her words and body language. Venari remained halted but cleared his throat to reply, ice blue eyes still retaining a soft contact. "Ah, I see," he paused for a moment to snort unwanted air from his lungs and to ponder his next words. He didn't want to be intrusive, yet he wanted to keep the conversation going a little longer.

"I've had no luck as of yet; I'm beginning to think the whole thing is a farce," Ven laughed lightly during the tail end of that sentence, knowing full well it was a silly thing to theorise. He did not mean it as a serious fact and he wished to convey as such. All he intended to do was lift the mood a little. "I hope you don't mind me asking but..." he trailed off, pondering whether the next question was sensible and received well. He thought against it on both counts but was already committed; sighing slightly, he finished his sentence with a false positivity. He hoped she didn't notice the ever so slight shift in vocals.

"Have you had much luck?"

A Random Event Has Appeared!

Disturbed by the voices of the two equines, a large rattlesnake coils itself nearby and begins to shake its rattle aggressively. As the reptile moves, a flash of something shiny can be seen underneath its striped body--perhaps it is protecting something?

@Akhlys and @Venari have disturbed a Great Basin Rattlesnake! It is up to you two to decide what object it is sitting on, and whether to leave it alone or try to retrieve the object. Tag the Random Events account in your next post to interact with the rattlesnake! (Hint: Doing so will earn you your choice of signos or shop items!)

Happy writing!

DAMASCUS
he was like a storm,
He had been watching, waiting.
It seemed that talking hadn't got the chap anywhere, and so for his last location (having searched every other nook and cranny of this blasted continent) he opted to watch from a distance. Both he recognised, one was Venari and the other a woman he did not know the name of, though he could recall seeing her by the ocean not long ago.
It was only when a snake made itself known that Damascus' vow of silence was broken, a vibrant rattling screech exploding form his lungs, and, as he spoke, he completely missed  pronouncing the 'S' sound.

"'NAKE!" He had hooted, leaping from his place high above upon a plateau and allowing his wings to catch him before he plummeted, taking the fasted route to the pair in an effort to swoop in and save the duo from imminent death. Though, when it came to actually doing that, he seemingly swooped right over their heads with legs tucked against his stomach and merely called out another word of warning "RUN YOU! SNAKE BITE!"
