She listened in silence, her ears tilted towards him, as she sipped at the tea he had made. The dogs had finally settled quietly curled into one another on the other side of the room. She watched as tears flowed down the mans cheeks, and hid her surprise. He had not struck her as such an emotional soul. But she could see now that there was a tangle of sadness buried deep within his heart.
“Hope is both a blessing and a curse” she stated when he was done. “Sometimes it leads us to fate unavoidable, singing in our favor…” she trailed off. “Other times it draws us along a false lead, and brings us nothing but pain. You seem to have fallen into the latter. Do you really want to pursue a woman who has done nothing but leave you?” The words were harsh, but she hoped he knew they came from a place of care. From a woman who had had her heart broken countless times. She thought to her conversation with Io, and quickly shook it out of her head, it would do nothing but fill her with fury.
“Have I ever told you about how I ended up here in novus? How I became a lost princess in a world far bigger than I could have imagined?”
