It was a rare thing for anyone but Noor to see Gareth so broken, so humbled before the fury of the cruel world. He did not fall to pieces easily and it was proof of how the events surrounding Salome had rocked him to his core. He felt like a ragdoll at the mercy of catastrophic winds, being beaten against brick walls.
Luvena’s words stung, and the stallion flinched a little at the sharpness of them. He had known she would speak truths to him, though, and that was perhaps why he had come to her in the first place. Lu would not coat shit with sugar and pretend it was delicious. Noor would have done the same, but the brute had thought that his elk companion was too close to the situation, and frankly it would have only wounded him further to express these thoughts to his friend. To have proved him right all along.
“No,” he said quietly, his tones darkened with the sad realization. “I suppose not.” He pondered that for a moment, the grief washing over him. He was no stranger to grief, but this was tinged with the bitter taste of failure and soured by old affections that would never truly be. He would need time to heal from this, to truly heal and not just shove it down in a box to never speak of it again. He’d seen what kind of healing that sort of treatment had gotten him already.
His audits perked, flicking towards the mare as she continued to speak. Gareth turned his attention back to the fellow medic now Sovereign, tilting his heavy cranium in curiosity. “No, you have not. But I would be honoured if you would like to share that tale with me now.”
