Raglan had come to him as soon as he had discovered the haunting mare within their passages at such an hour. The yearling's ruddy chocolate coat had gained a healthy sheen and lithe musculature had began to fill out his lanky frame. Horned, winged, silver tongued, and beautiful, the orphan brother of Camdis' sovereign had taught the scarlet spattered stallion more than he had learned, and in turn, the Night Court Regent rewarded the boy with affection and whatever his wonderful heart desired.

A grin curled at the stallion's lips as he thought of the lad, his royal page and his favorite pain in the ass; too often the clever boy would trick or bribe others into doing his work and then go on to direct rather shady and definitely lucrative hobbies of his own. Yet, he never had lied to Camdis Lohir and was wildly loyal to the Kingdom. In addition, the Pegasus youth was punctual and had a mind for all things ingenious and efficient. Often, the bay stallion would ask the page for advice or insight on an incident that troubled the realm, and it was thoughtful advice with helpful ideas that were offered in the boy's silken voice.

Camdis Lohir could still hear that velvety voice echoing within his mind as he strolled through the halls of Denocte's great fortress. Large hooves thudded softly against the stone floor, their echoes muffled by the tapestries and wall hangings interspersed between sconces filled with scented candles and incense. Reichenbach was an open handed King, one that valued amenities and the comfort of both his guests and citizens, and had therefore taken many of Camdis' suggestions to better decorate the capitol. Breathing deeply the scent of jasmine, myrrh, saffron, and a multitude of other heady scents, the stallion walked for a moment with his silvery eyes closed against the soft glow of the candles. Somewhere, a babe would be crying for milk, an old woman would be breathing her last, lovers would be sharing one another's breaths; somewhere and everywhere, life marched onward within their beautiful realm and beyond.

The magnificence of his privilege in having a hand in such things was not lost to him.

Yet, as he opened his eyes, he spied a figure a short distance down the hall. He could not scent their gender what with the smoky scents  in the air, but he surmised that the stranger was none other than the wraith that Raglan had described - "Slim, winged, looped in golden chains and draped with crimson cloth. A storm made flesh, the way she broods." Indeed, the shorter mare did seem to share Camdis' skill in brooding, and her diminutive stature did nothing to reduce her commanding presence. As he drew nearer - though not too near, the Regent was an avid supporter of personal space - and her figure became clear among the shadows, the stallion did not surmise to comfort the mare with a grin (My grins have always looked more akin to painful grimaces).

Slowing to a stop and relishing the relative silence that seeped into his skin from behind the soft crackling of candles and whisperings of ash falling to the floor, Camdis wondered at how this meeting should go. At length, the stallion parted his lips and allowed his sleep-roughened voice to fill in the cracks of quiet, "Welcome to Night Court. I am Camdis Lohir, Regent to Reichenbach the Beloved. The kitchens shall be filling the great hall with breakfast soon enough - have you come to dine with us?"

Reichenbach was a loving king, Camdis a benevolent regent, Lothaire a dutiful emissary, and the equines that peopled the realm would be treated like family, for was that not what they all were?
