There he was, some kind of weird guy whose head must have been put on backwards, twitching and pacing and speaking in looping limerick’s on his way through the canyon.  How could Ahote ignore such a presence?  He was always such a curious child so it was only natural that he was now a curious teenager.  The Davke hovered in the wake of the madman’s footsteps, whether Sada knew to look behind him or not, Ahote could not tell.  The boy was an extra shadow, one that didn’t really belong.  His skin was orange and speckled black and white like the stones.  His shorn black hair was just another stripe to blend in with all the stone. Like a chameleon, he matched his surroundings well.  The canyon was his hunting grounds.

Whether Sada was to be his prey or not, Ahote had not yet decided.  Whatever the man was carrying with him was enough for the Davke to risk getting caught stalking.  Or maybe, just maybe, the kid just wanted to find out if Sada would make great target practice with his slingshot.

@Sada  Why do I feel like this has a tendency to escalate quickly despite the brevity of it?

Bad day! Bad day, bad day, bad day. He’d gone and run out of the city again, escaping into the canyons because of all that Noise and Attention and now he was here! Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. ”You’re an idiot, you! A stupid idiot!” All by himself, he was. Alone, for certain. Never in Sada’s life had he been able to see things which were not there; he could only hear things which had not been revealed. Or was it the other way around? ”Nevermind that,” he said.

He circled back, thinking perhaps it was time to go and get some water. From the oasis? The city? He didn’t really know where either were from here. But he’d gotten here! Maybe he could go back. Couldn’t find his way back home, but who knew? People changed.

Something in the rocks seemed strange, something moved, a pebble scuffed the ground; Sada could not make sense of what he was seeing (surprise) and was just dehydrated enough and just in his element enough to think it was just a hallucination. ”But maybe it’s not? Hey! Get the fuck out here!” He tried to sound authoritative and confident, so whatever was hiding would know he was serious. He could really see them! Really.

IT WAS A BAD IDEA, to provoke madness.  The wind cautioned Ahote to be wary with how swiftly it changed, and he could smell it in the air swirling around him.  It was not magic that told the young davke to be careful, but instinct(namely, his mother - although he hated her -) would always warn him like the way the wind did now: Never interrupt a mad man travelling alone in the desert.

Why? Ahote always wondered and it was possible that he was about to find out why.  His perch was not yet discovered, but the pebble that skipped off of his hoof gave him away.  For such a small little stone it made quite the ruckus.  Ahote cringed as it rolled down, down onto the stone and sand with a clattering end.  His two-toned eyes glared down after the stranger who reacted at once.

Now Sada said, Get the fuck out of here!

To which Ahote then said, “How about you get the fuck out of here?”

‘Fuck’ what a strange word, and yet he liked the way it tasted when he said the word outloud.  Fuck .. it even sounded great just thinking about it.  Ahote peered down at Sada with a rather cynical sneer, making himself visible as he stepped around the ledge.

Suddenly, shots were fired.

Flintstones lobbed from Ahote's slingshot crackled and sparked across the stone in front of Sada’s feet. Whether Ahote intended to hit him, scare him, or to simply say ‘hello’ .. it was hard to read in his current disposition. It was harder to read in his tartan red eyes.  They did burn like a devil's eyes might burn, both red and blue, both hot and cold.  Ahote did not look like he was ready to heed the man's words.

“Who are you talking to?  You look like shit, do you know that?”  Ahote never knew what the phrase 'to have social grace' even meant.  How comfortable he seemed to be with himself too. One could only imagine where a boy like him came from, or what a boy like him even was .. certainly not polite.  That was for sure.

@Sada  awaaaay we goooo.
