DELPHINE

Here, she was. Yet again at the he markets. The closest thing to civilization she could find in this land she’d come not too long ago though she was persistent about traveling it. Her definition of “civilization” were in terms of activity. Places where equines were willing to let the ideas of royalty or rank pass them by. Delphine no longer had any respect or versed tomes for those who had “power.” All she knew was that money really made the world go round and vice was the currency. She had her own vices for sure, perhaps this is what kept drawing her back to this place. She was a Vagabond, one of no gods and no true land, but it didn't take her long to find that now one seemed to care where she went. Therefore when she spent so much time in the more “un-natural” set up of the markets no one seemed to put her off.

She was at home in the crowds. Despite the idea of weekends this place never seemed truly deserted, someone was always looking for something and someone. Like she meant… vices. She was occasionally here for a reason no different than the others. Delphine had a secretive, yet loud, existence. She blamed it on the injury she had sustained previously and in some honesty it was partially that which controlled her vice-seeking nature. The other part was that she liked this new type of life she’d found. Unlike others who’d known tragedy and fell in to the decent of sadness, she chose this life of risk and dopamine rushes. It was in this she found her freedom.

For this night her freedom existed in her dances of gentle nature and broken vulnerability. Conveyed in the look of seductive pain upon her face as the open stage surrounded by light maroon and lavender- sheer fabrics cocooned her in. It was this, her feigned vulnerability that drew others in to her. She was in a sense, damaged and this prey-act was her ambush tactic. She was smaller in build, so when the music hit and the lights shone her light and skinny body performed. Performed in ways that would even leave the most stuck-up power noble in tears if not in desire. A gentle tilt there and straining bend here. It called them in a way that they probably wouldn’t be able to live with themselves in the morning, should they ever act upon how they thought of her in that time.

This night the crowd called to her as she began, riding the busy of her time just moments before. The rush igniting her body and delivering her from the physical pain of the true world. She was wrapped in her sheer furred cloak, hiding at first shyly her golden eyes and sliver glittered body.  And from there she danced to the techno sounds from behind the curtains. She moved under the furred-skins suggestively, they sliver orchid broach embedded in her long subtle-toned hair. The golden lights and the sliver tones mixed together with a grace fit for royalty. Her pale pink hide screamed seduction and good times. Ironic considering her buzz was coming off and through her extensive movements her hip was raring with flames.

This was her sign. The sign as the song finished and the dance done to reveal herself to the crowd about the low stage table. She stood head on hips cocked to the left to raise her dainty head and her cloak fell away. Under it, as the lights shone the same hue as the base of her coat, did her sparkle shine. Silver bits looking like the deepest of galaxy’s, a kaleidoscope of grey that made her invisible but seen in a whole new light. Shining like the star she could be. The crowd roared and she collected her cloak gasping quietly as the performance had secretly left her winded. Suddenly the horns upon her skull felt as though they were truly made of metal.

Behind the stage the busy of the people met her with praise, mostly from those she didn’t want it from, but she knew this was the proper thing here. She quickly moved to join the lonesome night behind the show tent, gathering her things from the bench behind the scenes. Cloak, hair still a-done, hide under sweeting sweetly from the extravagance. She dared her face with the edge of her cloak before realizing this was not the best for her furs. She exited rashly out to the back dark alley of the tent. The in and out off performers and extra beings to make it all happen. She’d been left her pay in her things, wrapped in a small envelope. She wouldn’t open it now and just tucked it on her person. She stood for a moment, nostrils enjoying the greasy night air slipping in to her lungs. The pain in her hip dulled mildly from the rush of completing something well done. In the alley she was alone aside from her single cigarette she’d saved for after the whole ordeal.

Delphine craved this. The moment alone after the rush of pleasure, the best thing after love. The downfall, the freedom to fall. She chose this and she didn’t care. Depravity was one thing she’d never gotten to see with her own eyes until she came to Novus and being a entertainer was something she could get behind for herself. And so she stood perched agains the stone wall behind the tent in the dark, smoking… and living.
