M A X E N C E
HOME IS BEHIND THE WORLD AHEAD

You might expect a desert dweller to cry out and rejoice at the prospect of rain, though it was a dark and thunderous profanity that echoed throughout the oasis when the heaven's opened.
"Fuck--" the commander had boomed, piercing eyes glaring coldly ahead at the grey storm swelling over the dunes. Even with his wings strung open and wide like an umbrella, they still could not prevent the rain from seeping into his bones and ebbing into his hair, plastering each strand against his patchwork skin. The snarl upon his face would not relent; it only grew sharper as the rains grew heavier, and soon there was naught left to see but a flurry of greyish-brown landscape beyond the darkened pools of the green oasis.

Surely if the blasted relic Tempus had flicked from the stars was here it would spoil in the rain water, turn to rust and crumble - That was if it was even made from metal, and perhaps the gods had invented some sort of substance not even rain could dampen and ruin, just like it had Maxence's entire day. With a glance to the heavens, the commander was left wondering and wishing to Solis something along the lines of what on earth is the point of you before he continued on his way, seeking the Day court and the shelter it might provide.

What a good day to travel to the Day Court. What perfect weather. What a great idea! The one day of the week where she thought it would be perfect was turning into the exact opposite. First she'd set off from the Dawn Court in high hopes with hooves high and a smile that practically beamed to the heavens. Too bad it seemed that those in the heavens absolutely loved the idea of a practical joke. She'd been traveling for a few miles, feeling the burn but was sure she would reach the courts before nightfall but then it just had to start raining. One minute she was practically skipping along, the next the thunderclouds seemed to materialize out of nowhere... and then the downpour began.

She only had time to let out a dismayed squeal and try to tuck her book safely underneath her chin before the torrential downpour began. Oh... great... If she was a desert-dweller perhaps she would feel confident attempting to go on her way to the courts but as it was she'd never gone there alone and despite her sense of direction and the instructions she'd received... With the darkened landscape and her eyes barely able to stay open in the rain she wasn't exactly sure of where she was to go. The gazelle-marked maiden doggedly continued on in what she thought was the right direction but who was to say for sure? "Oh bother..." She muttered to herself, paused to spit rainwater out of her mouth, realized it was futile, then continued onwards once more.

It was by a sheer miracle that she noticed a figure up ahead, brown and white with large wings. A fellow equine heading in what appeared to be her direction. A feeling of elation filled her as she realized this could be a companion to help her along in this dreary weather. Thank, Tempus! She pushed herself forward towards her fellow and opened her mouth to let out a call as she neared, "Um, hello, e-excu-- She spat to the side, annoyed that her maw was being pattered with nasty rainwater. She cleared her throat and continued on a bit louder. "Excuse me! Is this the way to the Day Court!?" That was a bit better, at least she called out in a tone that was a normal speaking volume for most equines.

Camdis Lohir

The rain had been a welcome respite until his hair had turned into a sopping weight dragging at every exhausted step that the stallion took. He had fought against the weight for a few miles, straining against the heavy mess that were his mane and tail's combined weight, until he remembered the telekinesis that had accompanied his entrance to Novus. With a relieved sigh and a creasing of his brow as he held onto his magic, Camdis paused, attempting to lift the length of his tail first to no avail. The magic retaliated, not strong enough to lift the tangled mass from the grassy earth and instead lifting a handful of pebbles near the stallion's hooves.

"Not pebbles you dolt," Camdis Lohir wasn't sure if he was speaking to his weak magic or to himself as he yanked himself forward yet again. The only way he would be able to lift his locks from the ground and drape them over his back is if he took the lengths piece by heavy piece, and what with his hair being so thick, that could take the rest of the day. With a huff, the horned bay glared at his surroundings, stamping a hoof in his helpless frustration before the sound of a faint voice filtered through the downpour.

Sucking on his teeth, the Exile King was torn between his resentment of company and the need to relieve some of the weight dragging at him. He swayed back and forth on his hooves, physically tottering on the edge of his decision before rolling his silvery eyes and dragging himself in the general direction of the voice.

At last, he could make out a pair of figures through the rain, one towering and winged and one small and seemingly timid, the latter he assumed was the holder of the faint voice that had led him here.

"Hey!" He bellowed, doing away with courtly manners in his misery, "Hey there! Could you help me out? My hair is too heavy... This damnable rain..." He trailed off as he neared the two, his face a mask of displeasure and supplication.
