a little death, when petals of her
lips dance around your neck.

The spring is new and blossoming, and the sun is bright and high in the sky. There is a breeze, still carrying the chill of the sea with it, trailing its fingers down the streets of the dusk court like a child running with their hands pressed against all the walls of the buildings. Ia relish in the feel of the sun on their back, soaking up warmth like new flower buds.

Terrastella is beautiful, even in early spring. There is the distant sound of waves diving against the cliffs, the call of seabirds soaring above, and every archway seems to be decorated with crawling vines promising that, soon, there will be flowers. If it weren’t for having to travel through the swamp to get anywhere in this place, they might even move to someplace like this.

But Denocte is good to them, and Olympia can’t be bothered with the muck and bugs more than a few times a year. Harmonia just likes the exoctic plant-life to be found around every twisted tree trunk.

They pause in the street, the sun turning their auburn shades of hair to gold. Around them other horses pass, their hooves making staccato beats on the cobblestone. Each one that steals a second glance their way or stops and stares meets Olympia’s dripping, honey gold eyes. Harmonia smiles gently from behind the curtain of her sister’s hair.

The wind picks up the smell of flowers and pomegranates off their skin and drags it down the streets. Olympia drinks in the attention of every eye that lands on them like it is cool water, like she is parched, but Harmonia is trying to move them down the street.

“Remember, we’re not here for pleasure Olympia,” the glass-eyed sister says, “we are here for work.” The lighter haired of the two turns her eyes on Harmonia with an almost sinister pout. “Oh, but who says we cannot do both, dear sister?” The way she looks at the equines lining the streets, bathing in the sunlight, is like hunger, “Just a taste is all I desire.”

She tended not to spend much time in the dusk court itself. Though she loved watching the spray of the sea from behind the walls, she found all the stone structures to be somewhat intimidating, especially after having so quickly settled down into the twisted mangroves of the swamp.  It was loud, everyone's hooves clipping over the stones, and those sounds in turn echoing around through alleyways.

But she came to visit every so often anyway, wanting to look at the markets and see what treasures might be sold. She had left them empty-handed this time. There was nothing that would have been of any worth to her.  She intended to head back to the swamp soon. Exhaustion had her head sinking lower and lower, and Picoro - with no trees to swing from-  was beginning to feel heavy on her back. "You should have waited to come until tomorrow" he chided her "I could tell you were too tired this morning"  she shook her head, lifting it so that it came just above her wither and looked back at him "I'm fine" she replied. "We have all the time in the world to get back, and I will rest tomorrow" If she had to she could always stay the night in the court anyways. Find an inn to sleep in, and set out in the morning. Though she preferred not to, in case she had to stay longer.

It as she turned her head back forward she noticed she had just about run into two others. no? one other? she stopped dead in her tracks, only a foot away from them, and took a few steps back. There were two heads in front of her, but only one body.  "I'm so sorry" she apologized, trying to make sense of the mares  (mare?) in front of her. Even Picoro, who usually hissed whenever someone was too close, was in silent bewilderment.

Is it that the other mare almost walked into them or that Olympia has simply placed them in her path? It is difficult to say, but her honey gold eyes are already eating up every inch of the woman before she has even come to a full stop. Harmonia is watching her sister with a look of knowing in her bright, clear eyes.

“Delightful,” Olympia says, just under her breath, a wickedly sweet smile turning up the corner of her lips. Harmonia directs her attention to the woman with an apologetic smile of her own, “Please, don’t be sorry. My sister was just taking in the sights.” She casts her eyes back toward Olympia, who has not bothered tearing her attention away.

“Yes, everything here is just exquisite,” Olympia says, almost without thought, “Don’t you think so, sister?” She finally turns toward Harmonia, who raises a brow as if to remind her why they are in Terrastella to begin with. But she knows there is no arguing with her sister. “Yes, it is all very lovely.”

Ah, the woman is not as well-groomed as Ia, perhaps. Coat not as tidy, hooves not as manicured; a bit thin and unkempt, but Olympia likes the look of her sea-glass eyes. And once she finds something she likes, she wants it. Harmonia can see that in her now, the way she is appraising the unsuspecting mare. “What is your name, stranger?”
