There is a gentleness found in iron fists and a cruelty sleeping in soft words

Despite her upbringing in mountains and old growth forests, Cerridwen had always found herself drawn to fields and meadows. There was something easy about them, simple and honest even in the near-darkness of dusk that called to something in the mare; whereas in a sprawling wood, one may stumble upon shadowy corners, menacing and unknowable, even on the brightest of days. This wasn’t to say that the lass cared not for the thriving ecosystems that stretched out within and below the leaves — indeed, the Fae found that which she did not understand to be fascinating.

But fascinating as they were, they did not mean peace.

Strolling amid the prairie with her leonine tail held aloft, the amethyst mare felt almost drowsy, so contenting was the shushing of swaying grass. The stress and tension of travel began to slough off of her lean form, leaving the dregs of worry in her wake. As new as she was to the kingdom of Terrastella, Cerridwen knew that it was proper to present herself to the Sovereign, to offer her services as a healer and begin to contribute. Yet, the moment pale legs had carried her beyond the borders and into a new life, the Fae found herself resistant to the concept of being indoors.

It was a strange sensation; to have ruled a nation cradled entirely in the arms of Spring, to have no need for structures or shelters against such temperate climes, only to find herself a citizen of a far more developed realm. Truly, the femme was amazed by the technology Novus had wielded, and how naturally the concept of advancement despite political lines seemed to come to those who lived in each kingdom. Terrastella’s capitol city alone was a wonder in itself, having a hospital, libraries, storefronts, and a citadel with stones old enough to hold memories of ages past.

In her previous country, such modern societal developments were overwhelmingly rare, and given the growing bounty of information she had been presented with, Cerridwen had begun to suspect that her former subjects were living in the dark. How terribly she wished she could return, could step through that endless borderland and wrest her friends from the so-called gods who had ruled so jealously. The sunset mare ached with it, the desire to fix the wrongs and heal the hurts of a nation divided over so many age-old and petty disputes.

And yet, she had carried herself away from that doomed place, carried herself into a new life, and maybe it would be a mercy to forget.

Once more, the copper-burnished stallion found himself entering Susurro Fields. There was something about them that relaxed the stallion, and the more he thought about it, the more he realized that it was because it was flat. Despite having grown up in an overcrowded city, he found himself more at ease in the open expanse that reminded him of meadows of yesteryear. Sometimes, though, he missed the enclosed spaces of the city, how he could barely hear himself think over the din of the city noises, how the clopping of hooves on the cobblestones drowned out most conversations. With the coming dusk, there were aspects of the city that could shield someone from prying eyes, and it could keep unsavory acts from being discovered. However in the open plateau of the field, there wasn't anything that could be hidden, there was a clear visual as far as the eye could see.

Even this, though, did not mean that crimes didn't happen in places like this.

Leaves — most likely blown in from elsewhere — crunched beneath the large stallion's hooves, his blue eyes sparkling as he gazed about his surroundings. Although he'd been here for a bit of time, Liam was still technically a newcomer. He hadn't explored, hadn't interacted with anyone, and more or less locked himself up in the home he'd built himself in a quiet area of the Fields. Moving around and making himself busy again seemed to be doing well for the stallion. His copper-burnished coat was quickly gathering that shine it'd once had, and his muscles were gaining dimension again. Even now, as he moved, he looked like the stallion that he'd once been, like the stallion that he'd been when he'd courted his boyfriend.

Being out and about again was kind of weird. He'd been poking his cranium out of his house every so often to try and see what was going on in his neck of the woods, or even in general. Of course, being where he resided, it was hard to get the information that he would have normally liked to have. As a former commander of an army, he was used to having detailed information, so going into things with a sense of unknown was strange. However, Novus — and his home of Terrastella — had incredibly technology, not only the most incredible advancements he'd ever seen. Once upon a time, he'd thought Agnosia to be really forward thinkers, coming up with weapons and science discoveries left and right. But Novus — and specifically Terrastella — blew Agnosia out of the water. It was almost bittersweet, he'd decided.

Libraries, shops, storefronts littered Terrastella, and when he had first arrived in Novus, he was surprised to see all that was offered. He'd found himself stopping in front of a shop, marveling at everything that they'd collected or offered for sale. They all intrigued him, and he would be tempted to go in and purchase something. But something would stop him, and it was only the thought of going back to an empty home, an empty house, and he would continue to walk away, his hoofbeats clicking against the cobblestone ground.

As he stared out at the Fields in front of him, Liam realized just how lonely he was, and he was disappointed in himself. Doing exactly what he said he wouldn't do, and he was bothered to know that this was how he was potentially viewed.

There is a gentleness found in iron fists and a cruelty sleeping in soft words

Prone as she was to her strolls taking her across mountain ranges and countries, Cerridwen was accustomed to stumbling upon strangers throughout her wanderings. Thus, it was no surprise when the white-splashed stallion began to take form in the near distance. Long legs carried the mare swiftly over the earth, despite her leisurely pace, and Cerridwen soon found herself smiling politely at her newest acquaintance.

“Hello,” Came her soft greeting, silvery eyes warm and expression open — she had yet to meet anyone in Novus who failed to be delightful company, and could not help the flicker of joy that licked along her spine. “How do you do?”

The male was, surprisingly, taller than Cerridwen and build with a solidity that made the healer wonder at what sort of life he had claimed before this one. Indeed the stranger, despite an air of either aimlessness or melancholy about him, seemed to be wholly seated within his own self, as if his skin had always fit over his bones with a level of self-assuredness that even Cerridwen lacked. Whatever experiences had he weathered to fill himself with such a sense of aplomb that it could be felt in the air around him?

Tilting her head in a markedly birdlike manner, Cerridwen found herself searching the stallion’s face, his posture, his shining coat, as if merely studying him for long enough would provide the answers she sought. Leonine tail swaying lightly in the cool evening breeze, it occurred to the maiden that her scrutiny may be construed as suspicion, and she worked to school her features into something more palatable.

“I am Cerridwen, would you care to walk together for a bit?”

Oh, how she would love to pick this stallion’s brain — what tales he must carry upon those masive shoulders.

@Liam <3333333 he’s one whole baby
I would like to note that it took literally my whole entire reserve of willpower to not have Cerri ask “how y’all are you” ;)

Having spent so much time alone, it still surprised the copper-burnished stallion when others came upon him, or even interacted with him. Having been a hermit for so long, he'd nearly forgotten the outside world existed, let alone continued to thrive while he hid away. The sound of hooves bouncing against the terrain caught his attention, and he looked in the direction that they were coming from, surprise coloring his facial features. The mare was pretty, and most certainly seemed unique. She seemed like a decent ally to have should the need ever arise.

"Hello," came his kind response, his blue eyes softening as he gazed upon her. Relaxing his expression into one that was inviting, Liam made sure that he seemed just as friendly as he always had been. It wouldn't do if he was unfriendly, now would it? He wouldn't get very far, wouldn't get along with as many people as he did, nor would he have obtained the milestones and things that he obtained. "I'm well; how about yourself?"

Unsurprisingly, the mare was smaller than he was, and not as well-muscled. Not to say that mares couldn't be built like he was; he'd always met ones smaller and more lithe compared to his own frame. Confidence oozed out of his every pore as if he'd been born in this frame, but it would surprise everyone if they knew how his life had started out. Truth be told, he only obtained this physique thanks to genetic engineering, a program in which he was the only truthfully successful outcome. He'd been a test subject for a serum that was set to create super soldiers for his homeworld's military, a fact that hadn't been missed by anyone involved in the test program or the secret division as a whole. It wasn't until he became this stallion that he was confident, but everything else about him was who he was as a horse.

The world drifted about them as they stood there, just gazing at each other. For a moment, Liam broke their silent and non-physical embrace, gazing out at the rest of the Field. It was a lovely place, one that he was surprised he had yet to explore more of. It made him miss his previous home, the one he'd been building with Bucky, but he'd needed to leave, had needed to get out of there. Bucky had followed him for a time, traveling with him, but then they'd gotten separated. Liam hadn't seen him in quite some time, and he missed his husband. Looking back at Cerridwen, Liam found himself huffing in amusement as the way she gazed at him changed from suspicious scrutiny to something more palatable.

"I'm Liam. It's nice to meet you, Cerridwen. I would very much love a walk with you; I hope to get to know you," he replied gently, nodding his large head as he moved to walk alongside her, letting her lead the way.
