florentine

She hears the chiming of his bangles first. An eye opens and she peers out. About the queen is a wall of long, spring grasses. Since the cold of winter had abated, the meadow began to grow in earnest and now grasses tickled at the knees and flowers bloomed.

Florentine sits up to gaze out over the tall meadow floor. She does not need to search for him for the sun has eyes only for him. He glows like ivory and pours like milk. For a moment the fae-queen simply watches him as he passes. She studies the pink of his eyes, like pearls freshly won from the sea. She looks to the rings that lie like jewelry about his brow and then she looks to the ring that winks from his nose.

Florentine’s blink is slow and lazy as sleep still clings to the edges of her consciousness. It was a perfect day for meadow-dreaming, but this boy and his bangles is a stranger here and he is no dream in which she can linger.

With a sigh the flower-girl stands and blossom falls like rain from her body. She had been resting beneath the shade of a white blossom tree, watching as its flowers fell like snow. Flora watches now as white reaches for white, petals drifting to catch up with this boy of white. The blossom need not worry, for the Delumine boy stops to scratch upon a tree. Leaves rustle and mask the approach of the queen. “Careful, you may not wish to mark that white skin of yours.” Her eyes trail over the silk of him, “How do you manage to keep yourself so clean. I am not sure I could ever leave the water, I seem to attract dirt like a flower attracts a bee.”

Golden lips tip into a smile as beneath her fan of fine lashes she surveys this elegant new male. “Welcome to Terrastella.”
