Kauri
the treachery of demons is nothing compared to the betrayal of an angel

It withered and rotted. The far reaches of his mind succumbed without battling away what sought to ruin it. A realization Kauri very well understood but hesitantly gave in to. This world, this world... There was nothing; he has to start over. His deities were no more upon this land, and the spirit he longed to connect with is now forever out of reach. The very last thing he had, possibly the little fox was dead at this point.

These facts sunk deeper into the pit his heart has receded into.

Violet eyes looked past the trees he hid within and watched whatever snow flitted down. His body shifted beneath the makeshift blanket he made from the leaves of the plants here upon this oasis. Still was he cold but at least his form no longer shivered violently. Clumsily getting back onto his legs, the stallion decided to return to the snowy wasteland above this area. He needed to quiet his thoughts, so Kauri would go search for any lost souls that might need directing to the court.

Hooves crunched and sunk into the snow below him. Body shivered every so often as his spine received the inevitable chills. Skin wanted the beaming desert sun back, no more could it stand the cold. Yet, he endured. Skull tilted up, and silently did he admire the clouded skies. Whenever the stars may return, he’d be sure to sing them a little tune—as well for his love.

Ears flicked in irritation of the wind that blew into them. However, he wanted to hear what was near him; the former warden knew something was around. A certain feeling nagged his mind, it prompted him to pay close attention. Could it be a monster or a lost stranger he has willingly come searching for? Eyes squinted to hopefully see through this blizzard for any figure. After a minute, he huffed and decided to let his vocals do the seeking. Kauri whinnied and then waited.

Shortly after, a call so familiar brought his heart from the depths in which it once rested in.

He stood still and sputtered his own call that would sound quite bizarre to any passing ears. Silence settled, save the blizzard’s roar. He hasn’t scared it off, has he? Waddling forth to where he last heard the call, he nearly reared back once catching sight of something jumping right at him.

Balanced on his hind legs, eyes looked down at the creature sitting before him. Dark browns gazed into violets, the horse watching the fennec immediately brighten up. Kauri let his front hooves down, Naiosé cuddling close to his leg. The stallion’s mind was confounded, unable to gather up any words or emotions. Though after a moment, his eyes grew soft. Nose drew down to touch the canine’s shivering form; his mouth then opened as teeth grabbed his companion’s scruff.

Gently, he set Naiosé on his withers. To try and protect the fox from these cold gales, he gestured for him to use his thick mane as a shield. Kauri shivered in feeling the snow from his companion’s coat stick and melt upon his own.

He needed to get back to the oasis.

Turning back to where he initially came from, he hurried back to his shelter. His body grew numb of the snowstorm that blew; it felt almost as if it doesn’t exist anymore. Worry drummed his heart and had his senses shut the outside world out. Before he knew it, the former warden was dashing through the snow. The quick exchanges of cold air between warm, heavy breaths stung his chest, but he’d be damned if he stopped.

Perhaps there was a chance to survive this soul searching, this mass adjustment from a world of desolation to a world full of life. No longer did he have to be alone on this journey, to care for this bleeding wound he never knew he had until this part of him was ripped away.

Don’t you worry. Don’t you worry.
