The spring season giving way and bending beneath the weight of the impending summer let the days slip into each other, longer and more unbearable for her. She grew uneasy as the year departed from her Winter Court season where she'd spent her life; but she was built to withstand and so instead of remaining locked away in the Dusk Court tower, while she mulled over the limited options she had while she wallowed, she moved outside of her Court's territories and toward a place she often went to ponder other things. The day was well on its way to becoming night, and she felt secure enough in her position (a certain trust placed in her own abilities to defend) to travel alone as she carried the weight of an entire court upon her shoulders.

The Plains opened up before her as she crossed into the waving grasses, nothing but the soft murmur of a welcome on their lips. She took the opportunity of a quiet world to steal away with her own thoughts and musings. There was no word on the standings of the other courts, but the wind told her of a change soon to be happening--she needed to prepare, she needed to gather those beneath Vespera's gaze to build a land that could withstand.

In that moment, though, amid the sea of earth, she gave herself over to the wills of the plains and stood solitary against the disappearing light. Dusk held her in its arms just as she held the court in hers; the pinks and purples in the sky kissed her goodbye.

Having been born in the late fall, it had taken months for Lothaire to be introduced to summer. He had greeted the rolling warmth and high-set sun politely, gladly. It suited a cold-blooded creature such as he; and ever since that first summer he had only longed for the other seasons to pass. Spring was not enough, it did not satisfy him, and it left the winged man feeling quietly sullen. But not enough to keep him from chasing his wanderlust far beyond the borders of a place he still refused to call home. Night Court had been gracious, always, in welcoming him, and it had almost caught him off guard. From experience Lothaire knew a keeper of secrets was not usually accepted so freely. Still, the python-skinned man recognised the tugging deep within his cavernous chest to be unavoidable, and to it he heeded, slithering through the mountain pass by night.

Eluetheria Plain had opened up before him like an unfolding endless map, the sound of gentle swaying grass kissing his serpentine ears - hark, that was not the only sound they detected nonetheless. Footsteps coming to a close. Nebulous black eyes swivelled north to drink in the sight of woman not far against the horizon, her tall unyielding frame lit up by red and gold dying upon the sky. Her perfume sang of Dusk Court, and at that his curiosity was caught. Much he had heard of her house - tales of ardor and soft lavender, but he knew better than to rely only on the whispers of old; he knew better than to rely not on himself. And thus, with silent ease, Lothaire began to approach.

Spring held its breath and stood a solid stance against the push of summer, keeping the warmer months at bay until it was ready to give up its claim on Novus. She knew it would be a while yet before the season change came, yet nothing could stop her displeasure at the knowledge that she didn't want it to change at all. The rain that frequently fell was a bitter reminder that nothing would soon be cold enough to freeze over. But she would become acquainted with the feeling, after all, as a return to the Winter Court seemed very unlikely with her brother upon the throne--she had no reason to be there.

So instead it was often times like those that she found herself days away from her court of Dusk, shedding all the responsibility she felt in favor of a weightlessness that came with being in neutral lands. She had no posture to hold, no expectation of carrying the metaphorical crown upon her brow with grace and a purposefulness that betrayed her insecurities. She was a proud creature, but even those of the most self-confident had their doubts about their ability to perform. And it was such thoughts that bogged her down whilst she sat in the tower of her court that brought her to the freedom of unrestricted lands.

The view of the falling day was captivating, as she had often given her time to watch the sky bleed out its colors from the Dusk Court; Vespera's hand painted the sky and she happily gave mind to the art brought before them. But she soon realized that she was not alone--the whisper of movement was not from the grasses pushing back against a breeze--and she picked herself out of her melancholy reverie to give herself over to the new company. She turned her half-painted head toward the one approaching, no alarm in her gaze yet fully aware of the danger he could bring. He was a stranger, someone she had never met and of a court she did not know; his appearance was rough, yet held an unusual beauty. She was, in every way, captivated.

"Come, I am no one to fear." The voice that left her lips was strong with an accent of laughter, a slight humorous statement because he certainly did not seem to intend to stop away from her regardless. "It is rare for company to join so far away." And though she did not take her vision off of him, her body remained relaxed and open for conversation.

It might have been easy to assume many things about the reptilian creature looming high into the dark night; easy because of the blank canvas that was his expression - one could project whatever they willed onto such an empty space. As a child, he had been mirthless and shrewd - acutely aware of his mother's contempt - and as the sails of adulthood caught wind it would be true to say not much about the serpent had changed. He was an iron sponge: absorbing documents, smiles, law, with effortless detachment. He had stood, before, at the casket of despair and dereliction where his own mother writhed. Into it he had stared long and hard, a question lilting on his tongue like a globule of cyanide. To sacrifice himself to such dark ruin, or not? Lothaire had chosen the latter. Onward, onward. And here he found himself; a comrade to a faction to which he perhaps belonged. Such an intrinsically foreign concept it was to a man made of solitude.

The woman's voice coaxed Lothaire from his musings, though his face revealed nothing still. The python-skinned pegasus came to a halt whilst a gentle breeze licked at his colossal wings, and for a moment Lothaire simply stared. He watched the minute micro-expressions embellishing her face, examining the stars glittering within the deep of her blue skin - quite magnificently so. Lothaire had never felt beauty; read it, yes, but appreciated it? Not quite. She claimed to be of benign character; a bold statement, and certainly one he dismissed. Everyone had their secrets, how was he to know she did not hide a dagger behind such an easy smile?

Inanimate, he processed her words. "It seems to me," the low thrum of his voice flooded the hollow space between them, "you had company already." Lothaire paused, nebulous gaze lifting to the sky, "you are never alone with the stars."
