because her skin smells as though it is pure moonlight"
The serene waft of coconut and vanilla subtly filled the hallway a moment before she arrived, silver hair hissing around her razor boned face. The sound of quills and parchment, a now familiar sound, filled the quiet air, scholars and sages working furiously to further their knowledge, or to aid in bestowing knowledge upon others. Like a fresh breath of sea air Liesel breezed into The Dawn Court, completely at odds with the silent education murmured in rosy rooms, vibrant and alive, a smile upon her supple lips. She had been a warrior at the Court for mere months before the new Sovereign had been chosen - a handsome, understated man with a heart like pure honey.
His smooth, dark skin and inky hair had reminded her of someone, a face just past the reach of her memory with the most intelligent, cold eyes. King Kasil did not have cold eyes. His eyes were warm and focused, sometimes concerned, always honest. Liesel smiled at the thought, trying her best to shove the darkness from the corners of her lupine eyes. She was a warrior for the Dawn Court - a position she took with a beaming pride, dancing her lethal dance in the sparring rings, her clear chime of a laugh echoing in the empty barracks. Dawn needed more soldiers to protect it, that much she knew.
Her skin gleamed in the morning light, supple and soft, catching the sun as she passed, the warmth clinging desperately to the tips of her silver hair. Liesel reached her Sovereigns door, paused a moment, then called with a voice like sunshine;
DON'T STOP, DON'T STOP BELIEVING
IN TRUTH, IN GRACE, AND IN GRIEVING
Time seemed to be passing him by with an alarming speed, the days beginning to blur into each other and with each one he found himself more and more chained to the citadel. The thin wisps of ivy held him like chains, slowly claiming him for the earth just as they had the statues in his courtyards. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, giving himself rest for just a moment before opening them again -- but the bleariness with which he was beginning to see the world had not gone away. He flicked an ear in the direction of his door, a muffled voice calling his name. He was of half a mind to ignore the distraction, needing to get through the tedious study that he was doing. So many reports to read, so many matters to address. He still had yet to fill his ranks -- meanwhile his fellow sovereigns had held a full court for weeks.
Shaking himself from his thoughts, the weary stallion got to his feet and straightened his appearance. He ran a hand through the dark locks of his hair, hoping that he did not appear as haggard as he felt. The Sovereign of Dawn Court had something of an open door policy, inviting those that he technically ruled over to come visit his quarters with no invitation needed. Needless to say, it had resulted in some rather odd working hours and even more odd requests, but he felt it was important to be a connected and approachable king even while so many attempted to put him on some lofty pedestal.
Smoothing out his weary expression, he swung open the door to be greeted with the smell of vanilla and coconut. He would have known that smell anywhere, even if he had been a blind man. Liesel was a hard woman to miss, one of the few warriors of Delumine and even fewer women serving in such a capacity. She was also undeniably beautiful, with an agile grace that he had yet to see duplicated -- and the king found himself struck by her in some way that he could not yet explain. He swallowed hard at the sight of her, surprised by the rapid increase of his heart as he met her gaze with a dumbfounded look.
He blinked, clearing his throat which had a sudden parch to it.
”Liesel.” He said, his voice sounding more sure than he expected it to. ”Good morning! How can I help you today?” A smile had curled up onto his lips, a common expression for the winged stallion. Though he was troubled, he rarely let it show to others -- certainly not wanting anyone to worry after him anymore than they already did. Kasil shifted his weight to block his doorway, suddenly aware of the disarray of his quarters. He had no idea why he felt such a way, these feelings foreign to him. He had always been a man of the law, and rarely noticed such things as beautiful women.
because her skin smells as though it is pure moonlight"
The depth of his warm voice reminded her of sinking into dawn warmed sheets, clean and familiar. It brought a bright smile to her sharp boned face, her honey gold eyes watching Kasil closely as he shifted in the doorway. She had already seen the disarray of his chambers and found it to be quite charming, to see a side of Kasil that was not groomed and ready for public display. The intimacy of it tingled upon her skin, the thought that this was where Kasil spent most of his time sending her imagination wandering dangerously.
She smiled brightly, tucking the thoughts behind her ear for later.
"I was wondering if you would like to take a walk with me"
She breathed, her voice soft but enigmatic in the early light. Matters could have been discussed within the walls of course, but unlike many of the scholars of the Dawn Court, Liesel liked to feel the open air upon her satin skin, enjoyed the feeling of sand beneath her hooves rather than marble and stone. Besides, it was likely some courtier would interrupt their meeting if they stayed within the confines of the Court.
Kasil certainly looked like he could use some time outside of the weary world of politics and ruling.
So, rather than waiting for an answer, Liesel grinned and danced backward a little, inviting the weary, heavy-headed King to forget about his duties for a moment and escape with her somewhere they couldn't be found.
DON'T STOP, DON'T STOP BELIEVING
IN TRUTH, IN GRACE, AND IN GRIEVING
"I was wondering if you would like to take a walk with me"
”Oh. Where?” He replied, his voice higher than expected or intended. He had not expected her to ask such a thing of him, so common and out of place in the span of his daily life. His ears fell back for just a moment, the confusion clear upon his face before he swept it all away under that careful mask that he wore. He felt something stir in his chest, the oddest sensation that he did not have a name for -- but it lingered. With that strange feeling in his chest, he watched her with widened eyes as she danced backwards (there simply was no other way to put her fluid grace into words), beckoning him with her body in a way that he hadn’t known could exist.
He found himself following without sound, drawing his door shut behind him as an afterthought and listening to it lock just behind him and with it, all of the chaos of his regular little world. She was as skilled as a piper, playing a tune meant just for him to follow -- luring him away from all that troubled him. He found himself curious, drawn in by the lightness that she held within -- like a key to the chains weighing him down.
When they had gone a little ways, he stopped in his tracks -- reaching for the golden adornments in his hair that were slowly beginning to set him apart. If they were going somewhere, just the two of them -- he wasn’t sure he wanted to be interrupted with the demands of his reality. Pangs of guilt struck him as he tucked the little ornate pieces away in one of the citadel’s crevices, but he shook them aside. He needed this. He told himself, thinking of Somnus and his words of advice. He needed to step away before the world bore down too hard on him.
”Let’s go.” He said in a whispered rush, his dark locks freed from their usual proper place -- not quite a disguise but very different from his usual look. The smile that broke out onto his features was wilder somehow, as he pressed gently into her shoulder, and took off down the hall at a much more brisk pace. He knew some of the best ways out of the citadel, well away from prying eyes.
