Eden

pretty

Dusted with star matter and borne upon tides of nature, hers is the beauty of wild places.

TO ARMS, SOLTERRA

The cry rolled over the central city of the sands, a summons to assemble and defend the land that had become their home. Eden had been within a newly cleared shed when the monster had descended upon her kingdom, ebony locks peppered with dust and sand as she tidied up the small outbuilding. Ears perking, the girl straightened, amber eyes flitting to the open doorway through which Maxences's reply to the Teryr's roar could be heard. Glancing at the pile of armaments and shields, Eden decided that her victories would be wrought of her own flesh, not by steel. Turning about and cantering through the doorway, the paladin traversed the tight streets of her city and into the fray.

It took only seconds before golden hooves carried the mare to the arena and the chaos that was ensuing within; Maxence - glory be to him - standing as a radiant beacon of power, refusing to be cowed by the wretched beast that screeched it's challenge before him; Voltaire, the healer, plunging forth with his mighty horn blazing in the sun; and two of those that he had yet to meet, a pale woman with a warrior's gaze, and a healer stallion whom Eden had spied at herd gatherings. Eyes widening, Eden found herself shocked at the lack of brothers and sisters in arms - where was Leviathan? Avdotya? Seraphina? Where were Solis' beloved warriors?

Gritting her teeth, the girl shook the thoughts from her mind, there were more important things to consider - such as the strategy to take the monster and  his ilk to the grave. Moving to Maxence's side, the shield maiden gave a hasty half-salute before shouting over the din, "Commandant, I will help distract the beast until more reinforcements arrive to organize an attack - an aerial attack may be beneficial." While she did not directly tell her sovereign what to do, neither did the paladin wait for orders, and it was clear that with Maxence being the only winged member of the company, her suggestion was aimed at him. If it were another scenario, one that they had time to prepare for, one that hadn't occurred by surprise in their own fortress, Eden would have never acted with such brazen neglect for rank.

But it was not a different scenario and precious moments could not be wasted on petty titles.

Charging forward without another word, the lass moved within a few yards of the bird beast and reared back, her many bangles catching the sun and flashing the the direction of the monster's gaze. It was her goal to distract the beast, to guide his attention away from what would rain down upon him from above and below. Lowering her hooves back to the earth, the girl quickly moved a dozen feet to her left before performing the same dance - rearing back and attempting to infuriate the Teryr enough to make it stupid, to make it ignorant of it's surroundings.

And though her teeth and hooves ached for the sweet sing of combat, Eden bided her time, praying all the while that Maxence would act and that Leviathan would arrive.
