A god had followed her across the sky, wielding thunder and lightning as protest to her continued absence from her home. The atmosphere around her shook like a force as the particles parted to make way for rain; the clouds, heavy, sighed relief and opened their grey bodies. Nothing remained untouched, not even her--one of the earth, a piece of the nature from which the rain was borne. It was a mist across the expanse of her sight, a mutable wall only few willingly crossed. If she was one of them there was no indication of either choice made. It was a storm that waged war with the land, sky and earth, and in the end neither would be victorious. It was a simple system, she knew--they would tire themselves out from futile effort made and slink off, tails tucked, to save the battle for another day. It would end just as it came, without flourish or hesitation. And she would, as always, remain mired in the middle.

The castle walls lined one side of her, the rain an endless dominance to claim everything it touched. Giant gentle wings hung loose against her figure, tips kissing the sodden ground beneath her weight. The fortress loomed, neither glaring nor inviting with invisible eyes, but it was the opposite way she looked; out, out toward the fields of wet fog as she and everything around her was bombarded with a stinging, relentless deluge. She made no motion toward the opening in the stone walls, made no movement at all as she stood a statue with the storm raging around them.

position is the meeting between the meadow and the court, with the castle off to one direction and the meadow in the other

Pan could feel the thunder around him, like the pulse of a raging heart high in the sky.  It was Oriens, or at least that was what he liked to think, and the boy stared up at the angry sky with a defiant grin.  Many had hidden away during the storm, but not the child.  The child was playing, stomping in puddles and rolling in the dark mud, only to have the rain wash it away again.  He shivered as the budding autumn air stung against his coat, but it wasn’t a bother.  For Pan was seldom bothered by anything, let alone a bit of rain.

It poured like great sheets of silver mylar from the heavens, making it hard for the boy to see at times… but he simply slowed his dancing and picked his way a bit more carefully through the meadow.  Blinking against the rain, he saw a flash of gold in the distance, perfectly illuminated by the lightning.  Intrigued, the scaled boy started to make his way toward the figure – losing her for moments in the dark until the lightning shone on her gilded jewelry once more.

She stood still, like a gladiatorial figurine in the dark, and for a moment, Pan is reminded of the stories of old world fighters he was told as a young child.  Perhaps she was a warrior of Oriens, sent from the god of sky himself to protect them.  He liked the thought of it, and called to her in the night, the only sound to carry over the thunder.  ”Hey… Oriens?  For the thought struck him for a moment that perhaps this cloaked creature was indeed, the god of Dawn in the flesh.  Growing nearer, the mare’s scent corrected his original thought, but the puzzlement remains on Pan’s face as he offers her a timid sort of smile (for indeed, he found himself a bit intimidated by the huntress).

”Are you a soldier for Oriens?  Did he send you to us?”  It was quite a romantic idea to find himself in the company of one who seemed so favored by the gods, and he wanted to hear everything the herald had to share about their mysterious deity.

ooc:  apologies for Pan’s ignorance – he saw the red cape and assumed she was a godly creature – feel free to be like “wtf?”  @Forseti
