the sorrowful deep blue

The afternoon light warmed the waters of the sea as the creatures beneath surfaced to enjoy the sun’s warming rays. Every part of the ocean could feel the warmth in some way. Fish were rising to bask in the light while creatures that were less fond of the light were sinking deeper to avoid the brilliant light. The beach was teeming with life as the day heated, all trying to enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful day that had joined the golden orb.

Terminus was a place that seemed to call those that were in need or those seeking peace of some sort. A palomino mare wandered the beach, tears rolling down her face as she debated the heartbreak that seemed to be echoing in her heart. She had watched her mother die recently and was feeling alone in the world at that point. She had been alone for longer than it seemed, having watched the only family she had drift away from her. That separation had been as bad as the actual loss and since then, she had been withdrawn and lost.

The small mare stepped into the waves, her tears mixing with the gently lapping waves. The idea of swimming until she couldn’t anymore was hard to ignore as she stared at the expanse of blue. Who would care if she was around now that she had lost her last connection in her world? Who would even notice if she disappeared?

The wind starts to pick up and it cools some of her tears. Something in her heart aches at the touch of wind against her sides. She inhales and exhales and her tongue starts to quiver with sweetness. The taste makes her wander deeper into the waves, and the salt, like it’s home instead of the deep, black water.

She didn’t realize was that there was another that was watching her from the safety of the ocean. All she knew was that the waves were talking and each note they sang on the wind made her heart ache a little less.

A seagull cried from just above the little palomino, causing her to jump forward. The mare floundered in the water, gasping as she managed to lift her head from the salt water. She was trying to get back to where she could stand, unable to move further than to the point where she could touch the sands of the sea floor before she was swept back out of reach.

She struggles and flounders, and still there is no solid ground to be found. Everything in her broken heart aches to live, to feel, to not disappear like some broken thing.

The day brings with it more than just warmth to the sea. The sun brings to the shore a golden mare with tears shining thickly on her cheek and sorrow burning in her heart. She wanders aimlessly on the shore, and maybe @Odessa will find herself humming a sad tune to ease even a little bit of the mare’s sorrow (or maybe she only notices that the mare is wandering deeper, and deeper into the waves. A gull cries and the mare only just now notices how deep she’s wandered into the waves.

A wave crests over her head, and still she cannot seem to find where the shoreline begins. Will Odessa help her, or call her deeper into the waves where sorrow and sadness cannot go?
