MAXENCE
LOOKING UP FOR HEAVEN

With bones strung to the straps of his harness and the smell of decay following the sinking flesh upon them, Maxence questioned on whether the offering would be enough to appease the gods above. Regardless, it was more a symbol of what the bones and decaying flesh had once been that Maxence brought to their lord of a sunburst throne, one who Maxence had never had the privilege to see or hear the voice of like he knew some had. There were those like Avdotya who seemed to be living, breathing proof of Solis' touch given her impressive sand-stirring abilities.
The Elder Teryr he had slain, a beast that wreaked havoc over the canyon long before even Zolin's dynasty, and here Maxence was bringing a trophy of it's femur to the mountain of gods as an offering. Surely Solis would not shy his nose from it.

Flaring his wings at the mountain's peak and nestling his chin against the precious cargo nestled unto his harness, Maxence landed with a swoosh and a beat of his hooves upon the sleet covered mountain top. The air was thin here and certainly hard to fly upon given his weight, though a quick trek to and from the mountain would do little damage - this he realised as his breathing steadied, his feet grabbing into the narrow path up the mountain side.

Upon reaching the summit the commander set down the bone taken from the body of the slain beast, one he had dedicated to Solis himself and all of Solterra. Without a glance behind to see which of his comrades had ended up following him on his excursion to the mount, the sovereign began his words of mass.
"Solis," He began, eyes cast down upon the offering out of fear for the heavens above. "From the clutches of Elatus I bring you the bones of an Elder Teryr, slain by your faithful Solterrans. Give us your mercy, your blessing, your faith in our time of revolution..."

A prayer for solis. anyone welcome, though Maxence would be super pleased to see some day court fellows come to worship their patron god :)

IMAGE | 236 words | PATHETICALLY SHORT, I PROMISE IT'LL GET BETTER

SHE FOLLOWS HIM SILENTLY, OBSERVING THE KING. HE CARRIES THE FEMUR OF THE TERRIBLE ELDER TERYR, A GIFT FOR THE GODS. THE GOD. SHE KNOWS, WITHOUT HIM HAVING TO TELL HER. SHE KNOWS BECAUSE SHE IS DRAWN TO THE GOD OF THE SUN AS WELL. SO SHE FOLLOWS HER NEW COMMANDER, THE PAINTED BATTLED-TESTED STALLION WITH HIS WRETCHED SMELLING CARGO. FEATHERS KEEP HER ALOFT ABOVE HIM, LISTENING TO HIS WORDS TO SOLIS. AS HE FINISHES, HIS CROWN BOWED, EYES LOWERED, SHE DESCENDS, ALIGHTING JUST BEHIND HIM. SHE LIMPS TOWARD HIM, PUTTING A DELICATE WEIGHT ON HER INJURED LIMB. SCABS FORM OVER HER LONG GASH AS HER HIDE DESPERATELY TRIES TO HEAL.

SHE SPREADS HER WINGS OUT GLORIOUSLY, FANNING THEM ON VENEROR PEAK BEFORE THE GODS. SHE IS HERE AS A LOYAL SUPPLICANT, THOUGH SHE DOES FEEL SLIGHTLY BETRAYED BY THE GOD FOR NOT PROTECTING HER BETTER. STILL, SHE REMAINS. PERHAPS IT IS JUST A TEST OF HER LOYALTY, OF HER COURAGE. DO THE GODS NOT SET TRIALS BEFORE THEIR PEOPLE, TO TEST THEIR WORTHINESS? OF COURSE THIS IS THE ANSWER, AND SHE HAS BEEN FOOLISH FOR THINKING OTHERWISE. SHE, TOO, BOWS NEXT TO MAXENCE, OFFERING HERSELF AS A SERVANT OF HIS. "Bless us with your grace, guidance, and power, for we are your loyal followers, your devout supplicants." BUT UNLIKE MAXENCE, SHE LIFTS HER CROWN SKYWARD, ORBS LIFTING TO THE HEAVENS. FOR SHE IS HIS PROPHETESS.

MAXENCE
LOOKING UP FOR HEAVEN

The footfalls behind him were not so easily missed and, as they grew closer, the perpetual frown of Solterra's king sinking furthermore. While he had been expecting a follower of faith to follow him from their homeland he somehow was not anticipating their interruption. Regardless, it was when the woman he knew as Inkheart flared raven wing to the heavens and seemingly offered her entire body to the clouds and beings above. It was a simple yet awesome sight, one that struck Maxence and caused him to stare in wonderment. To see someone so willing to present to dieties that at any moment could strike her from the summit of this peak and send her carcass thrumming down the mountainside. It was a fearless, blind devotion and the King had no idea on whether he should be concerned or impressed.

Soon the priestess began to speak, begging the blessing of the sun upon them and with all the conviction of the mountain itself. It came to Maxence's attention soon enough though that they had stumbled up the mountain, presented Solis with a rotten bone and asked for blessing, asked for prosperity, and asked for his faith - surely, Solis required more from his servants than requests.

"Lord," Maxence soon began after the priestess had finished her piece, his eyes ducking from hers to the cloud cover above. "You have our devotion, our lands, our fire and our blood. It is for the land of Solterra - your land - that we toil. If only we knew your will, Solis, we would see it done." The King pledged, though very reluctantly. There were limits to Maxence's loyalties, and even the King did not trust the lord of light.

Looking to Inkheart, an expert on the man of the sun, Maxence gave a grave sigh. While he had come here to worship he felt disheartened at hearing nothing back, at feeling nothing, at questioning. The man had expected a revelation of some kind, perhaps the wind would change or he'd feel a presence - Maxence felt no such thing here on the peak as he spoke to solis.

Yay! @Inkheart

LEVIATHAN
the supernova

Leviathan was not one to proclaim himself to deities, though he knew they existed, for the sheer fact it was at the whim of those from other lands that he was as he is now, a beast of a different color, a different shape. He had come to accept the existence of the higher ups, though assumed most of them did not meddle in mortal things unless they were bored. Such had been his experience with them. They were something of a distant realm, creatures that warped what they wanted when they wanted, at the mere sigh of breath they took.

So here, he followed his Sovereign with aching bones, climbing the mountain despite the wear and tear on his body. Bleeding and bruised, he stood rather stoic at the shrine. Maxence had flight, as did the other that was here, he had to just grit his teeth and climb despite the wounds given to him. Alas, he was a creature of war and was wrought from steel and thunder, the creation of conflict was what beat in his heart, so to climb the mountain was nothing to him, even with his pain. He still stood as proud as ever, nostrils flaring with hot breaths while he stood, in silence.

He offered no prayer -- he was merely a warrior -- but he did glance up, toward the shrine, toward the offering, before he glanced away. Deities were not his strong point; he was never sure what to do with them in his life, or how to approach with prayers on his lips. He was not the sort to give such things. It was more though he gave a begrudging respect to them, which suited him just fine. He would not bend knee and praise them, for they were fickle creatures. He simply.. respected.

Inkheart
JUST LIKE FIRE, BURNING OUT THE WAY
IF I CAN LIGHT THE WORLD UP FOR
JUST ONE DAY WATCH THIS MADNESS
COLORFUL CHARADE NO ONE CAN
BE JUST LIKE ME ANYWAY

She senses from the sovereign that he found his unanswered prayers as frustrating as she does. Although she had committed herself to the Gods, to THIS God in particular, it wears on her heart every day that they chose to not answer her. She listens to him offer himself to Solis, anything to please the God of the Sun. A smile of acceptance and contentment spreads across her delicate maw. This is something she will come to admire, she thinks. The faith and piety of her new king elevated him in her eyes, for she knows now that he is good of heart as well as a capable leader. He will lead the people of Solterra to a great, prosperous future. And while he will look after their minds and bodies, she shall look after their souls. And so she gazes at him happily, unaware of the approaching behemoth until he had already stepped into the small clearing. Her crown whips around, thick waves of mane flying as she does so. Tension at being disturbed by a stranger leaves her body as she recognizes Leviathan, the giant unicorn of the Day Court. She dips her head in silent greeting, as he too remains silent upon joining them.

Turning her gaze forward once more, she looks to the heaven.

"Solis, God of Life and Love.
We are but mere mortals trembling at your feet.
King of Light, all men live when you shine.

Every day you glisten in the sky
Breathing light into men in all seasons
We your followers sing to you with joy
We prostrate ourselves in gratitude for your radiant blessings

Solis, many accolades bless your brow
God of Life, God of the Sun
Prince of Glory and Truth
Guardian of Souls and Love

Solis, giver of life
All Novus weeps with joy when it sees your golden rays
Souls long gone surface to meet your warmth and love
Each day we rise to behold your beauty

Solis, God of Life and Love
King of light, all men live when you shine."

Her voice falls silent then after her prayer, and she bows her crown then. A reverent priestess, filled with love and respect for her true God. She shall remain here, one with Him... even after the others have left.

MAXENCE
LOOKING UP FOR HEAVEN

Maxence listened, he thought, he meditated, and still he felt nothing. Why could Inkheart follow a god so blindly without any sign to his existence? Maxence believed but was it enough? He still doubted. Why would Solis not show him a sign?
Inkhearts prayed struck a wave of envy upon him as he focussed upon the words, wishing that it was he who would devote words so willingly to someone. How safe she must feel to live under the protection of a god, and in her mind reap all his blessings.

Perhaps he was being too specific. This is what Maxence came to realise as Inkheart finished her praise and threnodies. Solis had spared his life during the Teryr fight had he not? Inches from death in every direction and somehow he had survived - looking back there was no way that could have happened save for divine intervention.
"Solis," Maxence uttered breahtlessly finally casting his face to the sun without fear. "Thank you" he would then lament, eyes slowly shutting as he sent his gratitude to the heavens, and then stepped from the altar.

The offering was left, their wishes given; everything in it's right place. Leviathan had made it too it would seem, and though Maxence did not strike him as a religious man, perhaps he had his own prayers and whispers to give.
Regardless, the sovereign could do nothing for the soldier and would leave him in mediation. "Be at peace" He wished upon the mammoth as he stepped from the peak, wings flared and fluttering against the wind.

To Solterra he would sail, his prayer and lamentations finished.

Yay! this worship is dooone.
