Stay Determined.
Even in the wake of destruction, new faces slowly trickled into Delumine. Somnus had seen it happen with his own two eyes, time and time again. In this place he called home and, the last, as well as the one before that. It was inevitable, he surmised, for one form of destruction to slowly bring in new life, cultivated by a tenderness only known by a mother.
It was the way of the world, after all. When one thing ended, another began. That was simply how it was. Life, death. Death, life. Dusk, Dawn. Night, Day.
Even now, Somnus could still smell smoke in the air, despite the anomalous transition from winter to spring. Another year had passed, and he had grown another year older, but much around him remained the same. Much, however, was also different.
The Dawn King surveyed the court with passive, tired eyes as he departed from the stone hallways of the citadel and into the courtyard. They were rebuilding, but it would be a long, long time until their home was where it once had been. The acres upon acres of forest and land lost to the fury of the wildfires would take years to regrow, but Somnus was a patient man. The lands would survive and take back what had been lost, even though it may take years.
The lands, however, weren’t the only things that had changed. While the coldest of the seasons had passed, the dunalino still found himself fretting over Regis. His petite son was growing, yes, but the wildfires and smoke inhalation had dampened his already unsound health, and Somnus was oftentimes grave with worry for his only son. Anemone was slowly growing into a beautiful young filly, and unlike her brother, she was strong and hearty, ready to take on the world around them with vigor only the young could possess.
As he surveyed his surroundings, there was a loud trill! through the air as Alba spun around overhead a collection of court members, the barn owl spotting her bond-mate and altering her path in the air to return to him. Wings splayed, Alba landed upon Somnus’ golden rump with practiced ease, immediately popping her beak at him as though incredibly pleased with herself. The action drew a smile to his lips.
“Yes, yes. You’ve done quite well for yourself today, hm?” The words were spoken softly, endearingly, and the satisfaction that his companion felt filtered eagerly through their soul-bond.
Leaving the citadel behind in favor of stretching his legs and speaking to the people of the Dawn Court, it didn’t take long for Somnus to encounter those new faces. A dusky, tawny colored individual with striking blue eyes, and a finely-built, pale maiden were gathered near one another. He did not recognize either one of them, but still, the stallion’s dark lips twisted upwards into a welcoming smile, tired verdant eyes perking up in genuine intrigue as he approached them.
“Greetings,” he beckoned as he drew closer, dipping his obsidian crown to the earthly colored individual and then to the silver-lavender maid, “My apologies. I don’t believe we’ve had the pleasure to formally get to know each other. I’m Somnus, and this is Alba. Might I inquire your names?”
