Israfel

Fire, indeed.

Solaris danced among the skies, ignited and aflame, letting the beauty of her fires proclaim her own arrival. Her large, elegant frame was covered in churning, crackling flames, the phoenix twisting in the skies as she danced the way only her breed could. Cresting upwards, wings beating the cold air, only to spin and arc, diving downwards at a rapid pace before her wings outstretched and caught wind, slowing her descent.

She was pleased to be out of the rain, even for a short time. Israfel could feel the thrill in her bonded’s ignited breast. It was contagious, spreading and coursing through her body like wildfire, and as one, they traveled, leaving Terrastella behind for a short time. As one, they soared through the skies, letting the cool air brush along their bodies, only to be chased away by Solaris’ passionate flame.

A free spirit, gypsy soul, Israfel was a warrior with too big a heart and a mouth full of biting sarcasm. The daughter of a God and a Saint, she had lived, died, and now lived again, reborn in both flames and rainwater. This life? It was a gift. A second chance. Yet it was also a lesson.

To live, she had to change. Israfel embraced that change, cloaking herself in it like a second skin.

Let the world see her and tremble. Good? Yes. Alignment? Eh... Slightly chaotic, a little bit neurotic. Passionate, fierce, and determined. Fighter of evil? Maybe. Maybe not. Despite all of her time in Novus thus far, despite all of her time living this second life, there were questions that did not yet have answers. Soon, maybe, she would find them. For now… For now, she would simply coast the skies and relish what it was like to feel alive.

The Eluetheria Plain stretched out beneath her, covered in glistening snow and brittle, yellow grass. The occasional tree dotted the canvas, marring the otherwise perfection of it all. A solitary figure sloshed through the snow, and Solaris’ superior eyes spotted him first. Lavender eyes narrowed, and the burning phoenix turned and wheeled about in the air to return once more to her charges’ side.

’I count only one. He should give us no trouble.’ The Sun Daughter snorted, rolling vermilion eyes.

“Good.”

Path altered, Israfel angled herself for a landing a good distance away from the monochromatic figure, not giving him much attention at all as she landed rough upon the snow covered earth. Golden hooves dug through snow and dirt from the landing, gilded wings outstretched, and Israfel eventually jogged to a halt. Her hair lay in a wild mess about her shoulders, barbaric and untamed, and the Warden straightened her posture with a roll of one slender shoulder. Wings furled, tucking themselves back against her sides. With a flick of a golden-tipped tail, burning vermilion eyes shifted to glance in the stranger’s direction.

A cursory glance told her all she needed to know; he was a stranger. She didn’t know his name, nor did he smell familiar. Fine with her.

With a great, bellowing cry, Solaris’ ignited body descended from the air to perch upon Israfel’s shoulders, just above her wing joints. The massive red phoenix regarded the stranger with a cold, lavender stare, blatantly judging him.

“Don’t mind us,” Israfel called in a sing-song sort of way, clearly not caring if she disturbed this brute of a man or not, “Just passing through.”
